Bolton losing!

Sounds like our season under Blackwell where we finished 3rd.

Agreed Gray, a quick look on Porktalk shows that most are very concerned about how this season is panning out whilst some are deluding themselves into thinking things are OK and will suddenly kick into life at some point. It's a little like some our supporters were last year and in Clough's second season to be honest, myself included. You can't keep denying what is in front of you. I did, but deep down you know that a team is simply not good enough to go up.

Oh and yes, old Carlos is doing a cracking job. Long may he reign!
Agreed mate, we knew we weren't good enough, same with Adkins. I think their best hope is if Chancer really splashes the cash next month. As it stands too many teams are better certainly for top two.

Fuck the pigs - couldn't give a flying one about them right now. All I'm bothered about is us getting promoted.

Great result for us today with Vegas beating Bolton - got a feeling there will be a few more unexpected results to come this season involving us and others around us. Hopefully Scunny will slip up but they are looking very good results wise.

Let's hope that today the football gods weren't taking the piss giving us a good result, only to fuck us over soon!

We've pulled back 9-11 points on Bolton and Scunny since our poor start in less than half a season. They are decent both teams but let's not make them out to be better than they are because once we got going, we've obviously been the best performing team in the league by 9-11 points. If the three teams continue to perform in a similar fashion we should win the league... although I know it's not usually that simple where we're concerned.

Us wimbledon and rochdale had poor starts but have bedded in nicely . I see Rochdale as potentially the dark horses as they score plenty and play with no fear without the pressure of expectation

It's amazing just how big a part expectations (or lack of them) play in the success or failure of a football club.

I think teams playing below their normal league level often have the best players and a decent manager, but the players just can't handle the pressure of high expectations. I think it's often more about strength of mind and character than actual footballing skill when a well supported teams end up in the lower leagues, unless a club can literally buy its promotion. Players play as though they've got the weight of the world on their shoulders.

I'm sure bringing in so-so Championship players instead of ones with stronger characters at this level gas hindered us but I think that the the penny has finally dropped under Wilder. Pressure is definitely a leveller, but the good thing I suppose is that fans of clubs like Wimbledon and Rochdale can always live the dream like Burton fans did last season.

For me, the top 5 will be, Scunthorpe, Us, Peterborough, Bolton and Southend. Not necessarily in that order. Of all the teams I have seen, admittedly only on telly, I think Bristol Rovers might be a dark horse. They look very good at times. If it all comes together for them, they could threaten.

Just back from an annual pre-Christmas drink with some Chezzy mates,

Started in the Red Lion on Whit Moor, which was full of Bolton fans, then a few pints in town after the match.

Bolton started well enough, but ran out of ideas against a determined Chesterfield side, who battled hard for their three points. Clough, Ameobi and Vela all showed plenty of touches, but without the cohesion you might expect from a promotion chasing side up against relegation strugglers.

Might have shouted "Goo-on Ched" a few more times than ideal and readily clapped the Spireites off the field at the end, but all towards the greater good.

On today's showing, we've plenty more to offer than Bolton.

Typical fuckin pigs

Yes Phil, it was a ball-breaker. I was watching Final Score (the one with three panels on the screen) In 2 out of the 3 screens early in the second half, it showed Sheff. W 1 Rotherham 0, but not in the main panel. A long time later, it changed back to 0-0. I was pleased...until they got their non-penalty. To say I almost put down my glass of Glühwein would be an understatement...

We just need to keep on doing what we've been doing well for the last 20 games.

I suspect that it's pretty common for teams to find form and reel-in other teams by 12 points in less than half a season, but not to overtake 'form' teams like Bolton so soon. They have been top two or thereabouts all season and I suspect most of us assumed that they were more or less matching our own form. The same goes for Scunny, who'd have thought we'd be level on points with them so soon even if it was only for a couple of days?

As things stand I think we're probably the best team in the league. The key question now is whether or not we will still be at the end of January?

It's turning into a three horse race, with only two places available. All three are starting to pull away from the other three that make up the top six.

One of Chris Wilder's biggest tasks, in the run in, will be to keep the players nerves calmed, they all know what is at stake, and they know that crowd at BDTBL will get restless as we get close to the line..

Interesting (and potentially squeaky bum) times ahead........
