Bolton boycott

For those going, the highwayman masks appear to have struck a chord.

Might I also suggest black balloons and a great deal of booing on 30 minutes?

Because if you don't do owt, every league match will be £30, then £35, then £40. Where does it stop?

Bearing in mind, in our household, there are two people who want to go to every match, do you think £60, £70, £80 every other week is reasonable?

Going to the theatre is considered by some an elitist pursuit, but I can see touring ballets and operas for £20. I can go to the cinema to watch performances from the Royal Opera House for £17. Football clubs are taking people for mugs.

But why now? I personally chose not to go to Chelsea away in Prem league because £50 to watch us lose, which we did, was obscene. Where was talk of a boycott then?

I'm not saying I would pay anything to watch a match but for me the issue is much more about value for money rather than price.

£30 to watch a rejuvinated, positive United beats going through the motions as a fan and paying £20 to watch a bunch of abject wankers at the end of last season.

Yeah. I thought that against Gillingham last season....

£30 for third tier football is a joke.

Fair enough, you don't think it. It's telling that the only examples you have to justify it are a play off final at Wembley and a Premiership match at Stamford Bridge.

So you'd be happy to pay the same price for a seat in an uncovered temporary stand at Gillingham as you would for the upper tier at Bolton?

Surely it's fair that clubs who invest in new stands/stadiums charge more than clubs that provide sub standard facilities?
Bolton built the Reebok/Macron in 1997. United fans are being asked to stump up for the fallout from Emile Heskey/Neil Lennons exorbitant wages.

Well, no. The point is moot because I wouldn't pay £30 to sit at Bolton, never mind Gillingham.

What I am saying is that in terms of economics, I can more readily forgive a club with a 5327 capacity charging £22 for tickets (£117194 potential gate receipt) than I can a club with 28723 charging £30 a pop (£861690 potential).

There's somewhat of a disparity there which sort of looks like greed, don't you think?

It's not as simple as having a smaller ground so it's fair to charge similar prices cause you need the money. Clubs like Fleetwood have much smaller overheads than Bolton and we both know that Bolton would struggle to fill that ground if they made it free!

There has to be some incentive to provide better facilities to fans, otherwise why bother moving grounds or building new stands? When fans are given a better view of the match why shouldn't that cost more? You wouldn't expect to pay the same going to see a 3D film at the IMAX as you would going to an old cinema with a screen not much bigger than your TV at home.

I have no problem with the boycott, I just think if you are going to do it at least target all clubs and not let the "smaller" clubs off the hook cause their shitty little stand is £5 cheaper than Bolton.

If it helps anyone cost wise , I am going on my own now due to price of ticket and can take 2 in my van from mosborough area - provided I get a ticket and they don't sell out before I can get one !!! Don't pay for fuel so it will help with the ticket price . Pretty sure I will still be going !!
As ever UTB !
Ps masks are a great idea how much are they ?

Hence, twenty's plenty.

Do United charge £20 for away fans? I think I know the answer but don't know 100%.

If like I suspect, United charge more, then surely we should be getting our own house in order first? We've got more power to influence United than clubs like Bolton who we only visit once a season.

People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones! Until we sort out ticket prices for away fans at the Lane we shouldn't be complaining about clubs like Bolton.

Already in progress... We don't however inhabit or manage the glass house, just choose to visit it every other week :)

As an away supporter, I'd moan as much about ours as another clubs.

Hopefully £30 for Bolton fans. If they think that's harsh try paying it when you've been stuck in this shithole of a league for six years

I disagree with that idea. We should charge BWFC fans a sensible price to show we put football fans before profiteering. Majority of their fans are embarrassed as well to be fair to them.

Exactly, as I have mentioned throughout the thread, we have asked United to honour the twenty's plenty campaign. A previous MD said they wouldn't be and we haven't had a chat to the new one yet.

However, your comments about stone throwing are somewhat unwarranted. I don't set the home prices, just like Bolton fans don't set the away prices. It's the clubs who do and the fans who suffer.

The problem is, when football fans are so parochial, nothing will change. All the "fuck 'em, I hope we charge Bolton more" posts don't address the issues. Their fans are having to pay these prices for home tickets too. And some might think they are going to piss the league so it's worth it (we know how that one can go, don't we?).

Bolton have said that we asked for 4K tickets and that suited them to put the away fans in the upper tier. Their equivalent seats for their fans are £30. Hence the price. Their cheapest matchday seat is £28 in the north lower. That is what their ticket office told me.
He stated that we would be charging them £29??? I told him that would be doubtful. He then said Wimbledon were charging their fans £29!!
Anyway if you want to call and find out more 012046736530.

How good would it be if every away fan in the league wore the mask if charged more than £20.00 the media would soon run it!

:)

Not to speak for YES Blade, but if the poor ground is e.g £19 and a much better ground £24, you wouldn't be targeting all clubs as twenty's plenty implies you wouldn't boycott the poor ground game.

Exactly right, under twenty's plenty clubs like us and Bolton should be allowed to charge the full £20 whereas Gillingham should be maxed at £12 or £15 due to poor facilities. It's hardly fair on clubs that invest in a decent stand for away fans to achieve a similar income to clubs who provide a shithole!

I don't mean to be funny, but I think it's somewhat naive to think that the comfort of fans is the foremost motivation for clubs building new grounds, rather than the £££ they can get by increasing their capacity.

It's greed, more than anything, I think you'll find is their primary concern.

Nice to see that the Football Supporters Federation have got wind and back the boycott anyways Linz.

How many examples do you need? If price is the issue, they were more expensive?

I just don't see how we can complain about Bolton when their fans will be charged not much less at the Lane.

Because both are too much.

Exactly, so the protest should be against the club we have an influence over and not the club we have very little to none.

I'd like to think if we get United to drop prices then other clubs fans will return the favour and ensure lower prices for our away matches.

I don't often sympathise with our board but whilst we're not receiving the trillions of BT money, fans want good players signing and we're competing against lower end Championship clubs for players we DO rely on ticket income. Man Utd, Arsenal etc. simply do not. So whilst I'm all dor 20's plenty, I don't think it's quite that simple.

It's about the stadiums each club has, the motives behind how the stadium got to be where it is are irrelevant. £30 is ridiculous regardless but the point is that any campaign on pricing has to be staggered to target all clubs depending on their facilities and costs. I'm sure you don't need me to point out that clubs like Fleetwood will have significantly lower maintenance, ground and upkeep costs than we or Bolton do.

I think we'll still be going. Looking forward to the day out in Manchester.

I like the idea of the highwayman masks though, it'll be brilliant if we can get hundreds of Blades wearing them. Won't happen though, we'll get about 30 people wearing them if we're lucky.

I'm not going now either, so another £30.

I also believe that there are rail replacement services between Manchester and Horwich that day too, so that's another reason not to go.

It really isn't complicated. Whichever way you cut it, the pricing at £30 is unacceptable.
I was 100% set on going, but paying such a price as that would just be legitimizing the exploitation of football supporters, and this has gone on for far too long. Somewhere along the line, you have to send out a clear message that enough is enough.
