I'm definitely on the pessimistic side and think that plenty could happen yet.

But, I want to say "we're too strong, we've got too much depth and our run is relatively straightforward" if only to get this hoodoo off our shoulders.

Those on here who deny the existence of the football (and cricket gods) need to watch this footage.

Film by Evertonians of Liverpool's 2007 Champions Final Win prepainted bus ("We won it 6 times") - of course they lost!

But the bus was done when Liverpool didn't have an advantage /lead going into a match from scratch, not like they were 3-0 from a first leg,we have a 7 point lead over 2 places and 1/100 to be promoted.

I can sympathise with the pessimists here... Still a lot of footy to be played but I can't see you lot not making it.
On the other hand, I'm bricking it, we're a bunch of bottle-jobs and it's a long bumpy ride with brown pants!

I hope you and Huddersfield are the only teams in blue and white to reach the Prem this season! Out of interest, should you be promoted, do you think Murphy will cut it at the top level or likely to be released?

I'm hoping the same!
As for Murphy, my personal opinion is maybe a little different to the clubs. He has good matches, but for every decent performance there are six where he infuriates me to the point I want to strangle him! If we do make it, I think he will be given a chance in the Prem, but unless his overall decision making and delivery improve ten-fold I can't see him being much more than a bench warmer, though I'd be surprised if we released him.

Pretty much how I viewed him when he played for us.
On his day he could win you a game on his own with a sublime bit of skill
Went missing too often in the bigger games - where the pressure is really on - where it matters most.
He has the talent - maybe the heart is not the strongest.

My only concern is the next match, and it's a difficult one
I will not allow myself to think we are not going up this season.

So far Hanson has 5 goals and Lavery has 3 this season, I would hope that you would be right but I'd be far from confident they could fill Billy's boots!
I'm not sure if he would fill Billy's boots but on the flip side he doesn't play as often as Billy does. I still think we'd go up.

I do realise it's not the same and that we have a very strong position. Having said that we were top in February 2013 (the season AFTER Ched) and still managed to screw it up.

FWIW, I think it is different this year. Wilder is just a cut above all the managers we have had since Kendall and knows what he is doing.

Still, always worth a laugh at the Scousers, eh?

Does anybody know which route the open top bus will take from BDTBL round town with the trophy?

Can't wait!

HH

Don't be ridiculous ........ Wedn**day City Council would never permit such a display of "Bladyness" in the City even if we'd won the intergalactic cup !! o_O

We may be allowed to petition the Pig Star to feature us on a full page IF we were promoted ....... that's about it ......

But naturally it would come after a full page story about Tuna fishing and re-laying the turf on the Pig's training ground .... o_O;)

UTB & FTP

If we lose at the weekend and Bolton plus one of the others win, it will be all doom and gloom again. I would be amazed if we cruised to automatic promotion from here.

But we won’t lose at the weekend.

And Bolton won’t win.

And Scunny and Fleetwood are playing each other.

And then Fleetwood play Bolton.

And later, Scunny play Bolton.

Meanwhile, the mighty blades shall be sweeping aside all who come before them.

And now you’re gonna believe us………

Both our clubs have been experts at clutching defeat from the jaws of victory over the years. But I think this will be the year for both of us.

Ps. You won’t be needing Jamie Murphy in the Prem will you?

If they're installing a Desso and him being the normal currency for such a transaction, no.

I know owls fans are delusional
we have denial issues
we refuse to see the bleeding obvious

on reflection
which team has a 7 point lead with only 12 games left
which team is playing the best football
which team has the least top half opponents to play
which team doesn't have any pending court cases for any of its players
which team are not embroiled in an argument over unregistered player
which team is the bookies 100 to 1 odds on to win it
which team is the only one with a 2 points per game record

against
previous teams with different staff and manager have failed
Wow for a moment there I thought we were fucked !!

It's United we're talking about, we'll probably get 10 points deducted because someone threw eggs at the Bolton coach.
Phil parkinson has already had talks with Trevor Brooking and the Foootball League and he has stated that those eggs have hurt their fans so much and Madine was so cut up that he couldnt play at all so we should be deducted a minimum of 10 points and told to play behind closed doors for the restt of the season !

How many were we top by?

Hoping and praying we don't blow up but I can understand the nervousness among our fans, not so long ago we threw a 5pt and 2 games in hand away. The consolation I'm hanging on to is CW has been here before with Northampton and steered them over the line and that experience will be worth it's weight in gold over the next 12 matches and that he will keep them focused on what's required.

It's not about not enjoying it. We all enjoy it when we are winning and being top of the league. But if all those who aren't celebrating promotion just yet given given the disappointment of past seasons "find something else to occupy their time" our crowds would be cut in half.

Just because fans rightly point out that we can still be caught, it doesn't mean they are overly negative or in some way not a true Blade, as you are implying

God knows how you got that from what I wrote. You've totally twisted everything I said to make some ridiculous defence of, well, I don't know what. I didn't mention people "who aren't celebrating promotion" yet and I didn't accuse anybody of not being a "true Blade", so stick your bottom lip in.

I find it rather pathetic that at this point, with the table as it is and hearing about how well we are playing and functioning as a team, people want to talk about how there's a good chance we will blow it based on players and managers that have long since left the club. Just because we can fail, doesn't mean it's the natural thing for people to want to tell everyone.

And I find it very bizarre that there seems to be a mind-bogglingly large number of people who genuinely believe in "footballing gods" - I know the term is occasionally used in jest, but some people really believe there are supernatural and powerful beings interested in scuppering Sheffield United's promotion chances. There is no other explanation for some of the comments that keep getting posted.

This is what you said. I thought that you were twisting the views of those like me who, while acknowledging we're likely to get promoted and enjoy supporting the club as much as anyone else, remain cautious. I don't think there's a "good chance" we'll blow it, but there's maybe a 10 percent chance.

If you can't enjoy supporting the Blades at the moment, find something else to occupy your time. What are you a supporter of a club for? Or football for that matter? If it's just about the position at the end of the season, then ignore it all and have a look at the table in the summer. Blades who fret too much and talk negatively at a time like this are probably as annoying to others as Man Utd and Arsenal fans are when they moan about not winning the PL and European cups.

If every girlfriend you've ever had cheated on you, would you put blind trust in your new one not to do the same?

I know what I said Dkc and at no point did I accuse anybody of not being a true Blade, nor did I criticise anybody for not celebrating a promotion we haven't yet won. I questioned the point of being a supporter at all if you can't enjoy being a supporter at the moment. It doesn't get much better than this at this point in a season.
Your post on the first page - I've just gone back to see what you're referring to - was not particularly one that I was talking about or even sounds that negative to me - you are, after all, claiming a 90% chance of making promotion. There are other posts and other threads that just baffle me. People can do what they want, of course, but I genuinely don't understand people who want to be miserable all the time.

Regarding your girlfriend analogy, the temptation is not to be trusting, but it isn't logical or fair to assume that the new person will behave like the old person and is probably the quickest route to losing the new girlfriend. So yes, I would, on the basis that I would gamble on a relationship and risk being hurt again rather than being a miserable git and ruin the whole thing. In footballing terms, I would ignore the past failings at the club and hope that this time is different, for fear of getting to the end of a fabulous season and realising that I hadn't enjoyed it, in case it all went wrong.

Danny Wilson got Barnsley promoted to the PL, but that experience wasn't worth it's weight in gold
