Err, having bbq or bonfire doesn’t involve incendiary flares that a) burn at intense heat and b) belch out thick clouds of smoke. I’m asthmatic and being in close proximity to one of them would be guaranteed to trigger an attack.
Oh, and if you still think it’s a laugh, please chuck the coals from your barbie into your neighbour’s garden when they’re having a family do. Hopefully they’ll come round to thank you for being such a jester.
I take it you never go for a slash at ht then? The smoke from incenduries lasts for about 10 seconds then dissipates into the atmosphere. Unless it's you holding it the intense heat you complain about won't be an issue. We just like to moan about stuff don't we really.

The smoke bombs are not incendiary flares.
They aren't military or lifeboat type phosphorus flares.
There's a discussion to be had, but let's try and keep it sensible and factual

That’s precisely the point being made. People don’t hold on to them, they lob them into the crowd!

Fair comment, I was referring to the idiots who seem to think it’s ok to lob pyros about. Clearly, if the reports on here are correct, it’s exactly the incendiary types that are being used.

A point I've repeatedly condemned.
Well your last post was suggesting that incendiaries are a zero risk due to the speed at which the smoke dissipates. Actually something I take issue with anyway. I’ve used them at sea and the whole point is that they create a thick and lasting trail. As for the heat issue, re- read what you wrote……..

I've re read it. What's the issue? You're not holding it so the heat issue wouldn't be a problem for you. A couple went off at Coventry yesterday after we scored. The smoke had cleared by the time the players had celebrated. Bit of fun that appears to have hurt no one. Like I said earlier, we love a good moan about nothing don't we. FWIW I believe the ones used at football are the same ones used for photo shoots, birthday parties, etc and not the sea rescue version.

People have implied / said that. I agree in a sensible world such things shouldn't be flung. However two things I can add are:
The one that was thrown, landed near us and it wasn't a flare, it was just smoke.
The others that have gone off have been in the very back row, not thrown. I guess they let them off at their feet to avoid being seen doing it.

I agree we have some cocks at games, causing general annoyance, fights, chucking beer etc.
We also have people who like to whine about everything. Sometimes they harp on about things needlessly.
Some things need clamping down on hard, some are daftness that here nor there.

Would I chuck one, even if 'just' a smoke bomb? No.
Does it upset me if if someone sets one off where they are sat? No.

We have a problem at the other end of the scale with people sat like grumpy gits, not singing or shouting, more intent on looking for things to be even grumpier about.
(Not aimed at you btw)

I hope there was a drummer, I was stone cold sober so if the drumming was in my head there is a bigger issue.....
There was, but I couldn’t see where. Either that or someone had a massive ghetto blaster with loads of drum loops on it.

Good atmosphere by the Cov fans yesterday, it’s never been like that before.

Some of these new grounds where they put the more vocal element of the support near the away fans seems to work.

As someone who sings and shouts, I would like to say that I have felt threatened by the prospect of something burning being used irresponsibly (by being thrown, as ‘bangers’ used to be in the ‘good old days’); I have never felt threatened by a grumpy git, sitting and looking for things to be grumpy about.

Thanks for the backing HBT, nice to have someone cover my back.;)

Yes, but we keep going back to 'burning' and 'flares' . I would be 100% in agreement if these things were either, but they aren't.
We can all agree throwing burning stuff is dangerous, but we'd be wasting our time, because that isn't happening.

There must be something in the science that I have missed. Apologies if I have failed to read a relevant post. But when I did science at school, many years ago, we were taught that smoke was produced by combustion (another word for burning). When these things are thrown around in football grounds, do they come with a note attached saying ‘Do not worry, this smoke is not produced by fire’? To me, they don’t look like something that belongs in a crowded space.

They shouldn't be thrown around, no. At the same time they are being described as incendiary devices and flares. And you saying you are threatened by them.
All I'm saying is let's try to keep things sensible. They shouldn't be thrown, but there's no fire coming out of them. Look them up on you tube.

I don’t know whether I am threatened by them, but I don’t feel comfortable with smoking objects being thrown around. What exactly is producing smoke in them? In a crowded environment with young kids and old gits (me), it seems a totally unnecessary and inappropriate accessory.

Yes, shouldn't be throwing them. Also doesn't warrant lots of the hyperbole and hysteria on some threads.
I think most of the ones that were set off at the back this season have passed without asthmatic incidents. So, for the time being we can rest easy ;)

Oh FFS, again....

Coventry was less than half full basically. Plenty of room for safe Pyro from both sets of fans. I mean, by all means come with all the "reasons". But, space isn't one of them.

FFS indeed. Ridiculous comparison and your world football travels don’t change that. Let’s say fifteen hundred away fans, no 750. How many are given the chance to move away? How is that logistically possible in large all seater stands?

My view on the Palace Ultras is that it’s cringeworthy. You not agreeing doesn’t mean my view is irrelevant. It isn’t. It’s scripted, stage-managed, look at us modern football fans self importance.

Football was always about spontaneity not an organised playlist or some of Garyokes crass actions we see at BL.

Give me a bloke shouting something funny at a ref, Lino or player, or an amusing chant about something that’s happened rather than some twat banging a drum so l can sing the chorus to glad all over twenty times a game.

For me, the matchday experience is meeting mates and watching what happens on the pitch. Not slapping myself on the back believing l’m some Uber fan.

“They shouldn't be thrown”

Exactly. But they are. How many seem to think being hit by a smoke bomb thrown by someone behind and higher than you cannnot be dangerous in any way?

Agreed. Something joyous. Every time. But we ain't got that. We've got a snarling, finger pointing, copying each others songs, you're a Pig, no you are, your grounds a shit hole, come outside & say that, angry, vein busting, flare at Milton Keynes worshipping, but not in my back yard, say that again to my face .... atmosphere.

Put that in your cringepipe 🤓

That might be some peoples preferred way of behaving at a match but it isn’t and has never been mine. The majority of fans want to enjoy the game and the whole match day experience even if, god forbid, that involves a bit of friendly banter in a pub with the opposition fans. It certainly doesn’t involve spending it engaged in a puerile game of ‘I’m harder than you and I’ll fuck up the atmosphere for everyone else if I want to”. There really should be a an opportunity for the wannabe hard boys to just piss off and play amongst themselves in a shed because the actual match is a meaningless sideshow.
