Enclosed spaces with big crowds are inherently dangerous, and to keep risk to a minimum, there have to be restrictions on what people are allowed to do in them. Take a look at the video link above, at around 20 seconds, at what happened on the Kop 60 years ago today. It was about 20 yards away from where I was standing, and was seriously scarey. Fast forward almost 30 years to Hillsborough, and because fences had been erected to keep idiots off the pitch (I oversimplify for brevity), almost 100 people died in a similar crush because there was no escape onto the pitch. In the same era, people lost their lives at the Bradford City ground because rubbish caught fire, from a discarded match (if I remember correctly). Part of growing up is to learn that actions have consequences. Running on to the pitch during a game or taking combustible items into a football ground is something none of us should do. They are dangerous in a crowded space. If you think that football is not worth it without one or other of those things, then find another hobby.
