Blades or England?

My initial reaction is to say rather see the Blades get promoted as I don't have much passion for England football but at the same time it's only a matter of time before we got out of the 3rd tier and a world cup win is a once in a lifetime!

It will be inevitable that we get promoted out of this godforsaken sooner or later, it is probably unlikely England will win a World Cup in my lifetime.

Compare the feeling of the Blades winning something substantial like the FA Cup, then transport that feeling over to England, and the vast majority of the country feeling exactly the same, and how absolutely everyone and everything will be absolutely rocking. That is what it would be like.

Obviously I'd love to see England win the World Cup but I think seeing United win something would far, far outweigh it. Even the special moments we've had (v Forest in the Play Offs, v Charlton, Villa, Fulham & Forest in the FA Cup, first half v Hull at Wembley, and many more), how I felt for those, the incredible buzz, the pumping adrenalin, that amazing moment when we went 2-1 up against Hull, even the standing ovation when we went 5-3 down, that once in a lifetime game v Forest in the Play Offs, nothing England might ever do could replicate that.

There was a time when I'd have said nowt in it, England or United win bang the same but have got disillusioned with all the big time charlies in the Prem representing England. Last World Cup went to Old Trafford for England-Oz instead of watching England-Germany in the last 16. Had some banging away trips with England and with Jags, Walker and Cahil turning out for them my interest in England is starting to return.

The only thing that could trump Blades success would be England winning the World Cup. As said above, the euphoria would be off the charts. The whole country would shut down for the biggest party in my lifetime. I'd go on a week long binge. I'd probably die.

If UtD is the barometer say 10 out of 10 then England is about a 4.

Felt exactly the same in Munich when England won 5-1, or the 2-2 v Greece at OT a month later ensuring WC qualification. Also felt totally gutted in St Etienne in 98 and Gelsenkirchen in 06, much the same as any of the numerous semi final or PO final let downs we've had over the years.

Can well understand our fans favouring United over England. There is one big advantage watching the Blades, it's very, very unlikely you'll end up sitting next to a pig fan for 90 minutes.

No brainer, England every time.

Sadly, most folks have said Blades and most footie fans would say the same about their team, which shows how poor the support for the national team has got.

Even players like Carragher said it felt worse losing for Liverpool than England which is pathetic really. The pinnacle of football is playing for your country at a world cup and winning .Surely that's what we should strive for not every club fan prefering the success of their own team to that?

Its baffling to me why so few people support our country with the same passion as the local team.

Firstly we all support Sheffield United who have not won anything of note in 89 years, we are all also English who haven't won fuck all for 48 years.

I'd rather see us win a JPT than England in the world cup. Watching England bores me to death and I guess I just naturally have no passion for them. Sheffield United on the other hand is in my blood, always will be. Maybe its because tossers such as Welbeck and Smalling who continuously get picked but are dross. I just strongly dislike the vast majority of Premier League/internationally acclaimed players.
