Blackman

I like Blackman and Moore. But there is a sense that every shot seems to go in. I think there was a stat on the forum over the last week or so which supports that. Blackman made a blinding save yesterday, but it does feel that most half decent efforts go in.

The goal yesterday for instance, I keep hearing it was a great header, but my thought at the time and from watching it a few more times is that it seems really soft and Blackman should do better.

Maybe a fully fit Blackman would have saved it. I’m just thankful we had Blackman in the net and not Eastwood.

We have 2 good goalkeepers, who, of course, have let in some goals that raise questions. The Leeds goal was principally down to JOC, leaving the defence all out of position, and it was an excellent header, downwards, low, bouncing just behind the keeper, and it might be that his injury and/or the unexpected nature of the speed with which we had the ball and suddenly they put in a killer cross that had him not reacting quickly enough. But he more than compensated by the staggeringly good save in the first half, and his safe handling of the high ball all match. Moore will not have been satisfied with his performance v Wolves, but then look at the way that Schmeichel, one of the best and mentally toughest keepers in The PL, went to pieces against Man City yesterday. When there is a gulf in class, which there was at Wolves, decision-making easily goes awry. Neither goalkeeper for us has made the howlers which are shown every week on TV highlights. I have not seen enough of Ward at Liverpool to comment, other than to say that if he is worse than Karius and Mignolet, then signing him would up the stress levels on the Kop no end.

Save was top quality, Moore might have got to that but has an annoying knack of knocking it back in play, whereas he made sure it also went well away from goal.
Plus he is miles ahead of Moore in commanding his area, both in coming out to help defenders and coming for crosses.
Kicking off the deck seems fine, and he showed very good feet first half a few times in passing it to defenders under pressure, so miles better than Moore there too for me. But agree his kicking from hand is a weakness. May sound bizarre, but with such long arms and legs he might just be unable to kick it as cleanly as a shorter more compact keeper. Bit like hitting a golf ball, the longer the club gets the harder it becomes. So these side winder low trajectory kicks are going to take some practice and perfection with his technique.
Yaaaaaaaaayyyy. I'm 6' 2" and you've just given me the perfect reason (and excuse) why I'm shite at golf!! Thanks mate :D
