Can’t believe Barry Hayles hasn’t been mentioned yet

15/16 Billy Sharp
16/17 Mark Duffy
17/18 George Baldock
18/19 Oliver Norwood

25/26 ???????

Some seasons were easier than others!!
Perhaps if Snr Selles had access to all of those players he might scrape a draw ?

I’ve made a list of all

I’ve made a list of all the signings made over the last 60 years that I think were the best per season
Part 1 1966/67 to 1980/81

66:67 Bill Punton
67/68 Tony Currie
68/69 Eddie Colquhoun
69/70 Bill Dearden
70/71 Trevor Hockey
71/72 Stewart Scullion
72/73 Keith Eddy
73/74 Jim Brown
74/75 David Bradford
75/76 Paul Garner
76/77 Chico Hamilton
77/78 Bobby Campbell
78/79 Alex Sabella
79/80 Barry Butlin
80/81 Bob Hatton
Virtually all.the 79-80 signings were poor, but Jeff Bourne managed 11 goals in not more than half a season, so I reckon he beats Butlin.

I'd go Nathan Blake for 1993/1994. Even though he was only signed Feb 1994, he almost kept us up, scored 34 goals in 69 apps for us, bought for £250k and sold less than a year later for £1.2m.
I’d agree with this.

Nilsen was so overrated. Shocking defender. Watch any footage from back then and see how many errors he makes for goals.

I’d also say Don Hutchison rather than Cowans for 1995-6. Though it’s close.

If only we had signed him earlier. Was his signing before the window existed?

I agree, I was disappointed Kendall didn't rate him

2019/20 has to go to Skilliman or Mousset Shirley?

Had to laugh at some of those Chico,Campbell and Butlin

Within the time frame of 60 years there are two outstanding candidates imo , the obvious one being TC and the other Billy Dearden .

Going back further there have been a few others in my lifetime , notably the Noble Doctor Pace and a certain Joseph Shaw . Along with Brian Deane and Mick Jones , the former is still an all time favourite Blades centre forward who was signed for buttons , took about 20 minutes to win the hearts and minds of all those who were fortunate enough to watch his debut and went on to become a true Blades legend .

As for the great man himself he was signed from Upton Colliery , a typical Yorkshire pit team playing in a none entity league for the equivalent of a pint of Tetley’s and a bag of pork scratching for the Committee Members .
Whoever spotted the potential for him to become even half the player he turned out to be , deserves a medal the size of a dustbin lid .

The fact that he was described by one of England’s all time great centre forwards Nat Lofthouse as “Easily the finest centre half I ever played against “ and “The only player I ever came across who could make a good pass look like a bad one “ tells you all you need to know about his outstanding ability .
