Berge, WTF?

Not sure what your point is here mate??!!

The release clause in Berges contract is £35m
Diallo signed for £37m
So neither of those are really debatable

All I’m saying is surely a player that’s matured and proven is worth more than a youngster still to prove himself?? (Franny Jeffers anyone)

For what it’s worth I’m not sure either are worth their price tag, but someone is worth what someone else is willing to pay

If no club thinks Berge is worth almost double what we paid for him after a mixed time, then he stays

... playing for a team in the division below where he expected to play, his agent nibbling for a get out clause.

Still think we'll settle for a disappointingly low fee just to get him off our books.

He can go sit on the bench of a team above and maybe we can loan him back, Keiran Dowell style, and wonder at his mercurial shitness.

If that's you in your avatar, it's taking its toll ;)
I see my wizened appearance & stooped frame as a small price to pay for all the inordinate pleasure that i've given to women over the years. The 'Don Juan of Dore', the 'Casanova of Crookes', the 'Freaky foot long from Frecheville'; i've been known by many names.

But if i were giving advice to any young swordsmen out there, taking their first tentative steps on their own erotic adventures; it'd be plenty of isotonic sports drinks to replace lost fluids & never ever underestimate the simple pleasure of a facial.

We could do what Fulham did with Zambo Anguissa…
Loan him out to a top flight club whilst we’re in the Championship, with the hope of an immediate return. Then he’s back with us if we get promoted.

Pompey, I noticed Dowell has played quite a few games for Norwich this season and been amongst the goals. I never rated him but didn't realise he's still only 23 as he seems to have been around for an age.

Not a fan then Pomps?!

Will be interesting to see what happens if we get bids below the clause, which appears to be £35m.

Is Berge the type to be a nob and agitate for a move, down tools or become disruptive?
Doesnt seem it, but depends on how much control his agent has.

Crazy thing is, Berge could arrive on these shores for £20mil, and on £40k a week - fast forward 16 months, almost a full season out injured and a relegation on his CV, and he could be on the move for £35mil and pocket £80k a week - only in football...............

Whatever the release figure, clubs will only pay what they think he’s worth. Especially if there’s only one suitor. Then it’s decision time ( Like Brooks, who many on here rated at a much higher fee than just the one club offered).

That approach would massively impact the other recruitment over summer and most probably result in several other assets being sold in order to cover the huge loss in revenue next season.

If Berge had been outstanding then maybe but whilst he's shown glimpses of what he can do, I think anyone would be hard-pushed to justify the club keeping him at all costs.

It's worth mentioning again that we only need £15m for him to break even. Anything above that is profit due to his amortised value in our books. People seem hung up with making money on what we paid, it doesn't have to be the case.

agree around the glimpses, there is a player there, I just wonder if his languid style is more suited to the slower game in Italy or Spain, because the blood and thunder of a 46 game Championship season is going to be a bit of an eye opener (and possibly in the way Morgs can open the eye of an opponent)

Question is, if we can raise the £35mil by selling a string of other players

If we got £20m for Egan, and then another £15m from a combination of Burke, Mousse, Fleck, Norwood, Baldock, Bogle etc

Would you sacrifice them to keep Berge, or is Berge the man to build a team around for the next few seasons

On the other hand take the £35m, keep the above* and build

*not sure I want to keep the above bar Egan & Bogle

Not much of a decision then - sell Berge (& maybe 1 or 2 others) depending on how much needs to be raised to cover the revenue shortfall and provide a budget for purchases or sell half of the team (requiring them to be replaced cheaply of FOC) and still lose Berge on loan.

Fundamentally, I can't see Berge wanting to play in the Champ for Utd next season - why would you do that when you have top half/6 teams keen and willing to double/treble your salary in the process?

There is not a chance in hell that Berge will play for us in the championship. Not. a. chance.

We will get more than 15m for Berge should we have to sell. Too many clubs are interested both here in the UK and in Europe. Be a shame if he left, but it could be that selling him gives us the money to prevent wholesale departures, or frees up some money for limited investment. I would be amazed if the release clause was as low as 15m ... but you never know with us !!!!

I'd queried the numbers being touted for Berge, but when put in the light of deals like that it's probably just what what these lads can be sold for these days. It wunt like that in my day, fookin ell. Fred Tunstall used to catch bus wi me, from unters bar for 2 an 6 pence.......
When he was on the big scoring run in consequtive games around 1976 77,Keith Edwards was still getting a bus 42 or 53, to work and back.

My Evertonian mates reckon his relegation release clause is just 15m.....and we have to give Genk % of that....

Not calling out your mates here, but it would be a bit odd if random Evertonains knew the clause, but yet as supporters of his current side even we arent sure?!

Also, I cant see the current regime been stupid enough to insert a clause that states should we get relegated he can go for less that what we paid for him?

Not forgetting his 10% of the transfer fee if he doesn't ask for a transfer. Does that still apply these days?

He won’t play another game for us is my prediction and he won’t be here at the start of next season. I’ve no problem with that, as long as we get a decent fee for him and that money goes towards players for next season.
Agreed. He won't even see the bench

Great sex is my strong point, not maths, but by my reckoning the Belgian club that sold him to us can buy him back for less than what we paid for him? Taking into account the sell on clause.
Stick to sex, the sell on clause is 20% of any profit. It would be £600,000 on a £25 million sale.

My take is that confusion has arisen in that our relegation has reduced his release fee by £10m (€12m) from £45m to £35m and some have taken this reduction as being the amount to pay?

It's dropped by £10m from £45m to £35m apparently. Someone in the Italian press got mixed up and thought it had dropped to £10m or about €12m. That then got rumoured back as a £12m release clause. People will believe anything.

Great minds Chez :)

Devil's advocate here but when he got him last season, it was generally regarded as a bit of a coup for us considering who else was sniffing around him as well. The fee was generally seen as more than fair considering his potential and nor were his wages particularly stupid so there must have been some kind of concession we made to get him to agree.

Considering he didn't want to come in the summer when he thought we'd be relegation fodder, obviously the risk of relegation was an issue for him so it's easy to imagine he'd insist on a relegation release clause as insurance and for us to agree to a stupid one as the concession to get him here.

That being said, the 10 to 15 million figure is stupid and it makes more sense that the whole rumour there comes from an awful mistranslation in one news story in Italy. I wouldn't be surprised if come the summer the figure we get is a lot lower than we're expecting though.

Hasn't Dowell just been named in The Championship team of the season?

I am just adding what I have seen, been told, do I believe it - nope not at all. They seem confident though they will get him for less than we value him at. Which to be fair would be the Blades way.
