Yes, but he could walk into a top job now, and no-one would blame him.
Look at Wilder - best thing since sliced bread, but one shitty season fucked his reputation right up!
Thing is with CW, AK and co, is that they never had a plan B and were too hell bent on not changing it.

With how well Osborn has been playing pre-season I really don’t think Berge leaving is a concern. Ozzy has proven he is ready for the Prem. Could his energy possibly be at the level required to cover both Berge and Ndiaye’s roles? Wouldn’t surprise me.

He’s a machine. My only concern with him is he only has a year left so he may be the next out the door.
This is a joke.......right? :)

Or how about United sign the fucker anyway as we have been fannying around with this one all summer. We should be recruiting now after the Ndiaye sale, not letting more leave. Berge to go is fine with me but for fucks sake get some in first United.
Thats what all other clubs do .They get replacements before they sell but thats not the Sheff utd way ,we just grab the cash and fuck the team we will all turn up anyway . Anythings good enough .

So the buzz and excitement for a premier league season has been completely killed in the space of around 2 weeks what a great effort by the club

It's reactionary fans who don't understand the situation who think that.
Altho it looks poor for the Palace game, we either have new players who don't know each other or put out a weaker team than last season.

Our plans are we'll have a much better squad than last season by the end of the window.
At the moment our squad is quite poor, definitely weaker than last season.

If anyone uses a little brain power....that means we've still got a few big signings to come in. Some of our fans might be surprised by this when it's obvious.
So let's wait and see who we bring in.....will it be our 1st choice targets or our 2nd choice back up targets?
If we get our 1st choice targets we have an excellent chance of staying up.

If we sell Berge it proves we already have at least 1 excellent midfielder in the bag.

I could understand Ili going, or more to the point us selling Ili. I can also understand us selling Berge if Berge wants to go and we've got a read made replacement already lined up, but some might say that's Slimane? It's just going to Burnley that hurts, BURNLEY (said like the 1980's milk advert Accrington Stanley?! I mean Gordon Bennet! Shows where we're at as a club that our now best player thinks they're a better move than staying with us, but maybe the club have just decided if he won't sign a new contract than let him go now. We best have some seriously good players coming in over the next few weeks and even if we do, teams that do well from going up don't sell their best two players and then do the majority of their recruitment in the last few weeks and stay up. It would be like selling Deane and Agana back in 1990 and expecting to stay up with newer replacements, but we all know it's highly unlikely we'll be able to get like for like quality for Berge and Ili. Slimane and Traore will need months to settle in and they may not make the grade all season such is the gulf in class and in a team that will be battling for it's life. I'll not mention Larouci because I can't see him being a first team player and he looks just for squad development.

On the flip side, I do wonder if Berge has the stomach for a relegation fight but what he does bring is PL quality and we've only got a handful of players in that bracket at the minute. The likes of O'Brien might not want to come to us having sold our best two players, this could be a Derby County 11 points season if we don't get this sorted and those in so far are not ready to play every week at this level, I very much doubt, bar Trusty who I think is an excellent signing. I'm happy with Slimane and Traore coming too but just didn't want them to have to start games but the way it's going they'll be thrown in the deep end.

I can't see Hecky walking, he's got longer left on his contract than our first XI added together 😂

That's true, also he'll struggle to get a job anywhere else.
People say he did a great job last season when actually it wasn't that great.
We had one of the best, most expensive squads and were one of the pre -season favourites for promotion.

We also didn't have a set style of play, midfield never seemed to work properly.
We were disjointed most matches, playing nice passing football for 15 minutes, then playing kick and rush where we couldn't string 4 passes together, for 15 minutes.
We over relied on pieces of skill from N'Diaye and McAtee, who could score from almost nothing.

We were never that convincing, however we were defensively organised and when we parked the bus, we never looked like conceding.
It wasn't pretty but Hecky got the job done so deserves credit for doing a good job.

If this goes through and we don't get at least an adequate replacement and some decent signings I can honestly say I'm done until the prince (doesn't deserve a capital P) fucks off.

We've been through some shit in the 20+ years I've been following us, but this really does take first prize as the most embarrassed I've ever felt to support this club.

Fucking Shambolic.
I feel the same mate . I said that after our star man left last week .We are replacing them with third rate players .Oh hang on we are not replacing them with anything up to now .

We needed strengthening notably with Berge and Ndiaye still here.

We now need replacements for them where we know realistically we can't afford players at their level, before we look elsewhere.

If this deal goes through this week with no suitable replacements lined up, it's negligence on a large scale whether there's 3 weeks or so left or not.

Which decent players, with ambition, or even in their right minds for that matter, are going to want to come to us?
We’ll have to pay over the odds for players who don’t have offers from elsewhere.

I completely disagree - he would walk into a top Championship job.

Has anyone taken a min to understand that football is a business, if berge wants out he don't want to entertain our contract offer, I feel the club has no other way to deal with this than make some ££££ than him leave for free , we cant blame the prince for everything, under mccabe we would have sold him Last year, prince has admitted he hasn't got the money nor any backing to bank roll us to bring in big name players, even if he did if players refuse contracts there's nothing more you can do really! No point keeping players who don't want to be here, it's no good on the team
What team?

Its definitely a stepping stone move for Berge, if it doesn't work out for him he can blame his team mates/Club not high profile enough like his national squad manager did. If he goes to one of the Champions League clubs now (IMO not good enough for that) he will stand out for the wrong reasons.

What you been taking??

Wait and see? Fucking hilarious if it wasn’t so dire!

I have to use a little brain power to realise we still have a few big signings to come in….I’m going for…crack…you’re on crack, that’s it.

Fucking big signings…who the fuck jumps at the chance to come to this amateur set of clowns that run a professional football club. It’s almost cringeworthy the satire that’s unintended when reading some of this

It's the nature of football fans that if we see the opposite of this happening then it sets alarm bells ringing.

We will have sold the 2 best footballers at the club without anyone coming in to replace them. It is entirely possible that these players we were going to sign to improve the squad see this and think "I'm not signing for Sheffield United, they've just sold their 2 best players".

Whilst you may be correct and it may be the case that we have 4 or 5 signings nearly over the line or in the pipeline, there's a lot of projection as to what will happen at other clubs to allow this to happen. Waiting until late on for loan signings is dangerous as there are a lot of variables in that situation.

If this happens I will be gutted.
The club have shifted into reverse since promotion!!!!!!!
I feel for Hecky, I really do

Very brave post , just hope you are right !!

If we sell him at least it gives us some more money for some young loan players who we can develop for a year and then they go back to their own clubs as better players. Or we could sign some young players who we 'hope' will turn out to be good.

I remember the day I heard ont wireless in my car we had sold Fjortoft and Deane. I was ont A1 and had to pull into a lay-by nearly physically sick I was so feckin angry.

I’ll rember walking of the golf course today, switch my phone on and reading the forum headlines. I need a new 7 iron

Exactly this ^^^^^

With this news, I get this image of Sheffield United being a set of falling dominoes, not knowing where it’s going to end.
We are now entering the weekend as major under dogs as if we are an equivalent to a Division 1 club against a Premier club. We need to approach it as an FA Cup round where surprises do happen and should we miraculously get a win, it would give us another week to get players in and to hopefully gel.

Yes, but he could walk into a top job now, and no-one would blame him.
Look at Wilder - best thing since sliced bread, but one shitty season fucked his reputation right up!

There's a big difference between the 2.

Wilder has a team of mainly upper end league 1 players and was estimated to finish mid table.
He also played a set style where these lower division players suddenly looked good playing in a well oiled team where everyone knew their jobs.
Almost every goal was a well worked team goal, we didn't seem to score many goals out of nothing from individual brilliance.

His reputation was still quite high when he left us, went to a highly rated Middlesboro side, then a highly rated Watford side.
There's no way either of those clubs would take a risk on Hecky.

Hecky had one of the most expensive squads in the league and was one of the favourites for promotion.
He didn't have a set style of play, apart from organise the defence really well when we sat back.
The team often looked disjointed (especially midfield), we'd look good for 15 minutes then really poor playing kick and rush for 15 minutes, all in the same match (explains why Pompey was sometimes critical even when we won). We relied on individual brilliance to score goals.

A valid excuse that Hecky could use regards last season was it was all about the result, never the performance.
So he'd be willing to do anything in order to win, even if it meant putting 10 men behind the ball against a weak team for the last 20 minutes.
It's not what you want to see.....but it did ensure we got the 3 points and in our financial position that's all what mattered.

Regards Berge if he wants to leave...then as long as we do a good deal then think it's best he leaves.
I suppose the main issue is who do we have lined up as replacements for N'Diaye and Berge because this team is currently surprisingly weak.
