I'm with Greasy on this one. I can drive a car but I'm not a football expert so does that make me Joe Mercers wife? o_O

I love this sort of thing, can we have more.........

When the trawler follows the fish..........or some such gibberish

Hindsight kings will always complain without dealing with the actual dilemma Wilder has.
Freeman is out injured, Baldock hampered by injuries all season, one days rest between today and our next match.
They’ve had 4 days between their last match and today’s, let’s worry about today’s game before the game on Monday is my motto.

Sick of everyone up Wilder's arse, he's not some almighty perfect angel. UTB

Wow

Up his arse...
Perfect angel...

He’s got a mistake in him and deserves a bit of leeway when he makes one after what he’s done and what he’s capable of doing.

You really having a dig at fans for not slating him or sticking up for him?

I'm delighted as the next blade and definitely didn't expect this position but what I saw tonight has really put me off. It didn't feel like the fighting spirit we have always had since Wilder has been in charge. It seems to have rubbed off to the fans as well, very poor support from us saying there was 27000 blades there.
We've had an incredible 18 months and we're 6th in championship after a fair few years of shite. We've stuffed weds at the sty & are 11 points ahead of them...at the beginning of the season most fans would've wet themselves going into 2018 after what the last 4 months has brought, a lot of fans are getting a bit too Billy big bollocks these days and need to calm down and appreciate what we've currently got. Agree that today was really poor but hey January is a day away and let's improve the squad and see where that takes us.
Agree about the crowd at times..great attendances but piss poor vocally the majority of the time

That seems a bit naive for a professional football manager though surely. If Baldock can only play either Bolton or Derby, to just say because we are playing Bolton next we'll not worry about Derby can't be reyt.

If your best players are fit to play the next competitive game then they should play. Call me old fashioned or whatever but I can’t understand this resting a player bollocks who happens to be on the bench anyway.

I don’t know many teams that wouldn’t play their best RWB if he was available instead of a CB in his place.

Oops, sorry Rusty, just opened a new thread in a similar vein! Let's be upbeat together!

No, I'm having a dig at fans who think Wilder is exempt from criticism. He as you say has "got a mistake in him". Say what you want but 1 win in 9 games is a shit run.

Strange how no one can admit that.

Of course it’s a shit run and if it was 1 win in 9 after first 9 games I’d be worried but after 25 games were 6th. He’s not exempt
from criticism but he doesn’t deserve any at all if you look at the bigger picture.

Let's just roll on to Derby then, put all this bollox behind us for the new year. UTB

One of my favourite quotes came from Joe Mercer (when he was SUFC manager) when he shut up one of the SUFC directors who was questioning his tactics and team selections

Joe Mercer: What do you know about football, then?

SUFC Director: I have watched football for many years so I consider myself to be an expert

Joe Mercer: My wife has been sat next to me watching me driving my car for so many years, and she still cant bloody drive!
Great thread! I always liked Warnocks comment to McCabe on the 'Warnock' Documentary, when McCabe mentioned a player who would put bums on seats, Warnock replied along the lines with we don't need players to put bums on seats we need players to get results

Part of the issue we've had for years is the board thinking they know best, when really you need football people to do the football job, finance people to give them the money. Its finding the balance which is often the problem. At United we seem to have that part sorted now. Wilder knows what he wants, knows how to express himself and until now we've had a lot of success. The interesting thing will be if the new man on the board will think he knows better, when he doesn't know the club.

In contrast, the owners at Wednesday seem to have the same attitude as McCabe did after Warnock - the Robson era

Like most of the players, CW and AK are being asked to perform at the highest level in their careers. There's bound to be mistakes along the way and - barring miracles - this will go down as a good season.

I'm more worried about next season - the 'diffficult second album' thingy. Without a very strong start, we could be in a battle from the off.

He knew he made a mistake, that's why he changed it after half an hour. Credit to him for that.
Hind sight is a great thing ,Wilder didn't want to risk Baldock and was hoping to save him for Monday , played for an hour so hopefully he won't break own Monday.
Once in front Bolton defended for there lives which is what they are good at.
Difficult call resting players it's a gamble one has to take sometimes ,it may have back fired this time ,just hope Bal dock comes through Monday unscathed as no real cover.Critism of Wilder over this is miss guided as he was doing it for the right reasons

If you don't understand the make up of a meal made by a 5* Michelin starred chef because you only eat fish fingers normally, your opinion isn't necessarily valid.

Au contraire Sean......

If you can’t criticise anything about Wilder especially after today then what’s the point in a forum? absolute bollocks and hypocrisy of the highest order.

No need for it.

Times have moved on since Joe Mercer was a manager and his missus being a shite driver (RIP), both would struggle to do both things the same way today and say the same things.
I would not not want to restrict criticism in any way, but I do disagree with knee-jerk reactions which claim certainty. (That is a general comment, not aimed at you). The certainties in football are the number of points for win, lose, or draw, and that a bad injury means a player misses matches. Just about everything else is opinion. A manager puts a team out, and good decisions generally lead to success, bad decisions to failure - but not always. We form opinions, and can claim afterwards that if the manager had done what we said, we would have won. It is possible, but not certain. So giving reasons is important. For example, there is an argument that Hanson should have been available to bring on for the last 20 minutes. I understand that view - we would have won more headers, possibly scored from a corner. But on the other hand, we would probably have been tempted to lump the ball forward, which would have suited their big defenders. And towards the end, we created good chances on the ground - Baldock close twice, Carruthers just wide at the death, Leon's scoop over the bar. So perhaps we were better keeping the ball on the ground? Indeed, I suspect Billy might have improvised better than Leon with that late chance. It is great to learn from others, but it is important to realise that we have opinions with no consequence to prove us right or wrong, the manager takes decisions which then do have consequences. Wilder has got most decisions right over 18 months. He deserves our respect, but would, I am sure, not expect to be free from scrutiny.

If you are Joe Mercer's wife, I think that makes you a transgender necrophiliac. Still, good for the quota of under-represented minority groups on here.

We are going through a major re adjustment

if anyones forgotten weve been in league one for six long years and are in the championship
learning how it works

to be sat in a play off spot as we enter 2018 is nothing short of astounding

are we making errors ,,, hell yes

we are in new territory but we are well placed to keep it interesting
lets just enjoy being here instead of where weve been wallowing

you know try and do that facial thing were our mouths go up at the edges , smliing I think they call it

Sick of everyone up Wilder's arse, he's not some almighty perfect angel. He made a bad choice and an obvious mistake today,

Though if Baldock is too knackered for the Derby game, gets injured again as a result, and cannot play for the next 6 weeks maybe CW has more knowledge than you ?

I never understood why Chefs are rated by a tyre manuafacturer
until I went to one of the aptly named Nathan Outlaw chefs restaurants in Cornwall and got charged 60 quid for some duck that was very rubbery

food snobbery only comes second to wine snobbery in being the playground for arrogant arseholes

If it was Rick Stein, all of his establishments I've been in have been over-rated and over-priced.

Remember a TV programme where they got a load of wine experts in a room and asked them to place in order of price a selection of wines. Suffice to say that they got it absolutely wrong.

If you like it you drink it. There's nothing between a £10 bottle and a£75 bottle.

whats the difference between a gravy and a jus , about 6 quid a sauce dish
was once charged 9 pound for a side dish of petit pois when a tin of them costs 49 p

Or maybe he made a mistake? Oh wait I'm a mindless peasant who doesn't know shit. Thanks for reminding me.

Wilder has admitted himself he got it wrong. I take my hat off to him for that because that takes balls.

He’s allowed to get the odd thing wrong and for posters on a forum to discuss it, it’s not the end of the world. There seems a need from people on the forum to defend the indefensible when the man himself has said he’s got things wrong which seems rather silly to me.

Happy new year!
