Gutted about this one. One of the players to get bums off seats, even if it often ended in nothing. His progression across the last three seasons was clear to see and if he continues that trajectory, Norwich will make a tidy profit in a few years. We'll be lucky to see a further £1.5M however.

Danny Hall reporting a fee potentially rising to an 8 figure sum, means that would be at least £10M to us. Spread over half a decade. Spreadsheet Number Wang at it's finest.

£8 mill + add ons and a sell on isn’t to shabby but it’s how much wilder will see of it that matters

Brooks could be an infuriating and erratic performer and took a long time to consistently catch fire. But the frustration of this sale is a) the timing because last season was Brooks’ best and things had started to click more regularly, and b) that we’ve sold him to a Championship rival.

Given that the justification for this sale seems personality driven, rather than due to a lack of ability, it’s difficult to embrace Wilder’s thinking.

This sale will sting even more when Wilder gets binned again by the end of September.

I didn't renew either. Been giving my ticket away for night matches and now I'm retired I want more weekends away. Very underwhelmed last 2 seasons so no regrets. I will pick some games to attend, senior prices shouldn't be too bad.
First time in 30+ years I haven't renewed.
I have a few health problems but there's multiple reasons I've lost my mojo.

Lack of ambition is one, KO times, shit officials. VAR, players diving about like they've been shot.
What happened to the 3 o'clock kick off on a Saturday.

I was on holiday when Chelsea played Leeds in the cup semi final, Chelsea were one up but Leeds were putting them under pressure, a Chelsea player had a quick word with the keeper who went down with cramp FFS, I don't like Leeds but, that just sums up the game today.

After 30 years I foolishly thought I might get a message from the club, sorry you've not renewed, all I received was a message, if I want membership it's £70.

Rant over. 😁 UTBFTP

Not the disaster some will make it out to be. Heard 10 million, we have to sell players, that’s a fair price for a good but ultimately inconsistent player. As long as we replace with good quality then I’m fine with this.
Please provide an example of when this has ever happened in the history of United

Furious about this. Selling one of our best prospects / players who is a local lad to another championship rival is a joke.

Norwich don’t have parachutes and are in a similar position to us!! Makes no sense

We better be spending the cash on exciting players.

Currently zero excitement for this season
Absolutely.

Absolute joke that. I bet he goes and tears it up for them now too. Norwich were a much more fluid side than us going forward once Clement went in there, so he'll likely thrive if he's given the opportunity to express himself.

More than surprised about this.... Expected bigger fee and thought he would be going to a higher up club.

Does this mean Brooks see's Norwich as a better prospect too?
Think this shows we do indeed need to make some room for balancing the books.

Good start to the window....

I'm not happy with this one iota, but if the rumours from last season are true that Brooks and Wilder didn't get on then I'm not surprised we have cashed in.

Maybe this helps us keep Peck & Gus, maybe Wilder has an ace up his sleeve to come in, maybe Wilder thinks that Seriki is better in that position with the likes of walker behind him? Maybe we are just fucking skint and couldn't turn it down?

Not a great start to the transfer window...

One thing I would say with Brooks is he often over complicates things and not always has composure.
But he did really improve on that last season.

Very hit-or-miss, but had the qualities to be a match-winner on his day, & he's a Blade too. Bizarre, I can't think of the last time we signed a top rival player for a transfer fee in the same league.

If this is anything to go by it could be a long season
Tom Cannon?

Extremely disappointed in this. Brooks was developing into a player who made a real difference and becoming exciting to watch.

My initial disappointment and "here we go again" feeling will only soften if we are stronger by the end of this transfer window.
Not holding my breath though....

Got to be one of the worse sales in our history. Well within contract and to a rival.

At least we other disappointing sales have been to clubs in a higher division/better status.

Some of you lot on here wouldn’t recognise a good footballer if they kicked you up the arse with steel capped boots on,he was easily our best player last season. Don’t worry, some of our supporters will boo him when he comes back with a side that plays good football.

Wilder very much back in charge.

Kalvin Phillips coming in, Riedewald released.

Andre Brooks sold to Norwich.

Probably Seriki next.

Wilder wants his boys club .

Brooks put a post on Instagram recently referencing a lack of appreciation. It was quite clear what he was referring to, we saw it all last season.

It's not everyone's opinion, but we need to move to a DoF model or similar. We can't keep letting Wilder and his mates run all things football.

It feels a shame to me, this. It doesn't feel like the right time to sell Brooks & Seriki, they're progressing very well and one more season (probably) would've seen their value increase significantly.
Therein lies the problem of not having a DOF structure. The club is in a financial mess. No parachute payments and a pending court case overseas not forgetting the owners still owe a considerable amount to the Prince. So it should be no surprise assets are being sold off. The problem is when you do not have a competent off field structure that delegates recruitment and sales to experienced football men. One good championship season and Brookes will be worth double the alleged £10 million fee. Norwich are on the up. They have the off field structure and £20 million in the pocket from the sale of Sargeant. Add in Clement an experienced manager who has managed in the champions league and they are potentially one of the favourites for the title. Why wouldn't Brooks want to go to an ambitious club.

A DOF avoids contract extension delay. Effectively manages disputes between players and football managers and has the negotiating skills to get the best possible deal for SUFC. This deal isnt the best for SUFC. Its the best for Brooks. It has all the hallmarks of the Ndiaye mess we got into last time where the player delayed signing a contract extension and left on his terms.

Brooks was young, athletic, pacy and got fans off their seats. He was one of the few players worth watching last season and will be a significant loss.

This has conveniently slipped out whilst the manager is in the USA at the World Cup and golf. It suggests the Club knew there would be an adverse reaction and have gone for damage limitation. Its just another example of the current reactive management style that alienates supporters.

Lost for words at this one. I’m even more glad I didn’t renew my season ticket after this. Will be very glad to not have to endure a season with the likes of Kalvin Phillips, Kyle Walker et al taking huge wages out of the club whilst we sell young assets like Brooks, and most likely Seriki next, to fund it.

As long as Wilder has his ego stroked by signing all these ex premier league stars to ‘carry his culture’ then sadly nothing will change. And our owners cannot see that, or are just terrified of the alternative.
