Get another good season behind him and I can see him stepping up and finishing in the championship. Was nearly in it last year if Bolton didn’t implode.

If he hadn't the impending trial hanging over him there's a good chance he would have been sold during the January transfer window. At least one club consulted their lawyers before choosing not to put a bid in.

Yes mate you are possibly right about January, but I'm an optimist end of the day it's a sad chapter in Sheffield United's history, that needs to be brought to an end.

I think the manager being an absolute twat took some of the heat off him at Fleetwood.

I think that is one of the most sensible things I've seen written on here, Barton is an absolute cretin he had skill messed up doing okay as a manager so beats up Barnsley manager what a class act he is NOT.

Be interesting to see what happens at his trial in October considering his previous.

Struggling to remember a manager assaulting another manager to that extent in the pro game in this country.

I guess the FA or EFL havent done anything as yet due to the impending trial.

So it's October the trial would not surprise me to see him get some jail time, he has previous.

Hope he does tbh. Makes me laugh those who always make excuses for him. His previous shows he's a piece of work and Joe Public would expect a stint inside with his record.

You can't go around knocking people's teeth out in a professional environment.

He was at it again on the stag do.

I supported him all the way through and really wanted him to do well but please Ched..... can you fuck off now?

Same goes for the rest of them clinging on to their contracts resisting every opportunity to move.

Jake Wright can stay if he wants though, for his absolute good blokery and mentoring qualities.

JW was alongside Lester with the <23's @ Barrow & indeed demonstrated his"mentoring (& coaching) attributes with the gains, and indeed "good blokery" ( by (tolerating) talking with me

I don't think so. No one batted an eyelid when he went on loan to Fleetwood.

With the greatest respect to the people of Fleetwood it's not confirmed the 21st century has reached there just yet. I don't think they even have a club forum to debate the pros and cons!

As was said it clearly plays into Oxford's thinking by asking the fans for opinions. And lets not forget while the story of his conviction and ill thought out attempt to come back here the first time were major national news the quashing was not.

The fact that Oxford consulted their fans shows that even though acquitted most still don't want to be associated with him, the difference with Fleetwood is that they have manager that would make the Kray twins look good.

Imagine how good Fleetwood's Prison 5 aside team would be ..... they need that GK Luke McCormick and they could be the best in Europe

If I recall the scurrilous gossip correctly, I think it had to do with withdrawing any offer to play with us when he was out on licence (but still convicted) rather than anything the club did at the time of his conviction. As you say, his contract ran out.

Genuinely didn’t think of that. Tbh that does nothing but reaffirm my view I want him gone. Thanks mate and UTB

Give the man a break please, CHED, he's served his time and some Blades still want to rip him 2 bits, not worked out 4 him unfortunately 2nd time around, McCabe brought him back but we've progressed a lot quicker than we could have imagined under Sir Chris, Ched just needs 2 get a new club, get himself scoring goals again.

Sorry mate but my post is not critical of him, mine is aimed at Barton you know the thug with a mug.

Oi, steady ;)

Expect 'mental health issues' to come along and save Barton's neck.

After their result yesterday they wouldn't take Messi, Ronaldo, Sales or De Bruyne. Not as if they need anybody..........

Why would anyone on a good contact be eager to give it up?

And here’s the problem – all the listed players will now likely have had rises that have meant that they’re on a basic wage they’re unlikely to see as high for the rest of their careers. This is why any notions of getting significant cash for any of them is generally unlikely.

Take Evans and Carruthers as examples. They are both probably in the £8-10k bracket with a year left. They are likely heading to League 1 in Evans’s case, League 2 in Carruthers’s. We want them off our books. On average players in those leagues are paid £2.3k and £1.1k per week respectively.

The Mirror reported that Evans’s salary had risen with promotion to £10k/week. If he’s sold next week there are 46 weeks left on his contract – £460,000. The average Oxford player if following a league average will earn £105,800 in that period. That is a big drop for Evans. By sitting on his arse he could earn an amount that it might otherwise take 3-4 years to earn in League 1.

There is very little incentive for any of our players to be sold unless there is the added bonus of more guaranteed earnings. That’s why in all instances we’re more likely to see players loaned out (and getting their 1 year of PL-raised wages) than being sold. The alternative will be to waive any transfer fee and get the buying club to pay a chunk of the wages owed instead.

This is the unfortunate reality. We will be paying to get these players off our books.

Quite frightening those figures.

Ched and Carruthers have largely done the square root of fuck all to justify that money from us.

Not in the know but surely all contracts agreed while in 1st division will surely not have a wage lift into the premiership ,PRemiership was a world away when we signed Carruthers. any contract agreed while in championship maybe has .Either way no club at 1st division level will pay what we pay so loans with a view to buy will be the way to go .

I'd have thought this too. Contracts don't automatically have a wage rise clause upon each division you go through. He'll be on low end Championship wages from after we got promoted.

Not in the know, but any agent worth their salt will insist on exactly that, and clubs will almost always agree as it’ll be relatively small in the context of their revenue increase. If you’re the club in League 1 and the agent asked for an increase to kick in on promotion to the Prem, it probably seemed so remote at that time that it would have been included. It’s an agent’s job to make sure a contract maximises a player’s earnings within what’s reasonably acceptable to a club. If Carruthers’s agent didn’t include it, he wasn’t doing his job properly. And with so many players part of large agencies nowadays, it’s unlikely that this sort of oversight would happen.

Yep some logic in that Loughboro

Yeah doubt his wages are anywhere near 'average' prem wages even if they have gone up. If Duffy risked his blades career as the money wasn't great then i highly doubt undeserving players have good deals
