And what's that supposed to mean?

This is a forum, not a rehab group......

It’s meant to mean that we are a professional football club and need to show appropriate ruthlessness in our dealings with our players. Every £ in wages needs to be properly apportioned for maximum benefit to the club. If players aren’t at the right level or are failing to get back to the right level of performance we need to get rid. We are a championship level club & Ched has never performed at that level for us. He had his moment a long time ago in a lower division & in my humble opinion he won’t ever recapture it. Giving him time, taking him on pre-season jaunts and sending him out on loan is only delaying the inevitable. This mindset being in direct oppositon to a wild life sanctuary, where the prevailing attitude is one of rehabilitation, charity and third & fourth chances. Where time isn’t important in the bringing back to full fitness of wounded & stray animals.

But i suspect that you kinda knew what I was getting at and was just being a smart fucker for the sake of it? :)

Bigbed - maybe, maybe not but I was thinking wtf

maybe it's one of those things that sounds great inside your head...

I prefer the charity scenario, you had me lost.
I like the idea of being a "smart fucker" though, so I'm going to Lord it up for 10mins whilst I'm watching Car S.O.S.

Back to Ched.......until CW decides his times up, he's a Blade, and to me, the same as every other player on our books(even if I think Lavery has been an equal waste of time and money, although he did score that pearler) as an equal.

You’ve got 9 minutes left. ;)

Fair enough, a valid view. I’m just of the mindset that we need to be more hard nosed this pres-season. No time for sentiment. Hanson’s gone and a fair few should follow. Trim the squad down and fill any squad gaps with youngsters coming through. The players that we need to bring in will cost us, and we need to free up as much space on the wage bill as possible. And that’s not to say that CE is a big earner. As a general point, I have a lot of sympathy for CE.

Scored last night when the rest of the strike force blanked....not sure if he did much else but that's what strikers are paid to do....no sign of any other players definitely coming in...surely he's not still going out on loan as things stand...

I suspect Ched is still in the “departure lounge”, so to speak and would be shocked if he’s in the squad for Swansea. He’ll have a loan move lined up, but right now we need him- same situation Wilder spoke about regarding Slater and RND. Makes me wonder if we thought we had a breakthrough just before Stocksbridge, so pulled Ched from the squad in anticipation of him moving. That clearly didnt happen, so the loans on hold.

A team/player/agent dicks us about, so we cover ourselves by dicking a lower club about. In return, theyre probably dicking a conference side about by holding back a player. Its frustrating, but sadly the way of the game now.

Great to see him in and scoring. It will do him the world of good.

Wilder has proved in the past with Freeman, Coutts and Brooks that he’s open to changes if the player proves himself

Personally I’d love to see ched firing in behind billy or Leon.

He’s one of the types of striker we need if he can get fit, stay fit and find the form he had before then we’ve got a hell of a striker.

Lots of ‘ifs’ though but we can never question his desire to do it.

The thought of going out on loan to a lower division club could maybe spark a bit extra from Ched, could be a bit of psychology here from Wilder.
The thought of maybe playing at a lower level wouldn't excite him fighting for a place here will .

Absolutely; its not a bad thing. Maybe he takes his chance and plans change like Brooks last year. I’d just be surprised (and a bit concerned TBH) if we hadnt brought in a couple of strikers by then. I’ve been saying for over a year that I think the ship has sailed with Ched, but I’d genuinely love to be proven wrong.

Quite interesting this. It doesn’t need much to go wrong before Ched is in demand at the lane.
Signings go wrong or don’t happen. Billy or Leon get injured or have a bad run of form.
All about the numbers and how many CW thinks we need.
Wonder if he would be on an instant recall from a loan spell.

The problem we seem to be having with Evans is "if" we can get him fit. Whenever I've seen him since his return to football, he's been quite a long way off the pace and / or injured. If he can get up to speed with the rest of the squad fitness wise then I think we should give him one more chance. If not, ship him out.

No room for sentiment, especially considering the off the pitch antics that have been going on recently, we need all the money we can get!

He needs to be fit, that’s a given, but if he can do that there’s no denying the ability is there...

I still believe he’s no longer good enough for the Championship, five years ago it may have been a different story.

Fit v good are very different.

Obviously if he can’t get fit then he won’t be good enough. But if he gets fit, he has everything here to get firing the goals in again

How long was he on the pitch last night?

I think the word may be HAD.
No, my wording was correct. I’ve no doubt in his ability. You misread the point I made.

Ched has everything at the club to get him firing - the players, the formation, the supply. Plus all of the coaching and management he needs, just like the other players - Coutts, Clarke, Freeman, Duffy, JOC they all missed something before the wilder years.

I think even if he recaptured some of his ability shown in League 1 there’s still plenty of doubt whether he can deliver that in this division. There always has been. Unfortunately he’s now a bit older, has had an absence from the game, and now appears to be injury-prone. If he can shake off the injury-proneness then he can at least give himself a fair shot of it, but I’d be extremely worried if we go into this coming season with him anything other than back-up – it would be indicative of a monumental failure of recruitment if this transpires.

For me, the best scenario would be a loan to League 1, get him fit, get him scoring, reassess in January. That is the best way of getting him anywhere near back to what he was. Development squad games and the occasional cameo when Clarke and Sharp are unavailable isn’t in my view going to aid any return to form.

2nd top scorer for Norwich in 07/08 despite only playing half a season there. Top scorer for us in 2010/11, albeit with 9 in an awful season. I'd agree that there's plenty of doubt as to whether he can get back to that level but in his early 20s Evans was a good Championship striker: certainly no worse than Scott Hogan or Sam Gallagher.

Fair point, I thought someone would bring the Norwich season up. I could pick out quite a few players that had good initial spells that were outliers when you look at their whole careers. Unfortunately for him he never replicated anything near that for us in the two seasons – he was the least worst of the strikers the year we went down (some would argue not replicating his Norwich scoring rate was part of the reason we went down).

Ironically prior to relegation, I was firmly in the “he’ll be alright in the end” camp – I really wanted him to do well for us, and do well for Wales (with Earnshaw, Hartson, Bellamy and others getting on a bit at the time, I thought there was a real opportunity for someone like Evans to break through if they were half-decent). I had a lot of posts at that time arguing for patience. Relegation altered that perspective – I’d say I’m much more realistic on the merits of our individual players nowadays. I do not think Evans has proved himself to be a first-choice striker at this level. It remains to be seen if he can.

The way we played Ched in the championship was so far away from what he knew and was capable of at the time.

He was young, lacked the strength and confidence to play the almost lone role up top. He couldn’t play with his back to goal like cresswell.

Put him behind cresswell then we immediately saw a different player.

Play him in behind Leon and he’ll do the same, though when I saw him last season, his game with his back to goal looked better and he was stronger
