I suggested Blessin some weeks ago in another thread here. He is the best manager in the Belgian league at the moment. Oostende just escaped relegation last season and with a bunch of unknown and unproven players Blessin has created a miracle. They are the most attractive team to watch and play a very energetic high press game that has impressed everyone here in Belgium. His assistant is a former NFL physical coach and the summer preparation was quite special in terms of physical preparation but they out run all other teams now. Best appointment you can make.
It’s a yes from me then. Cheers Purps’ 😉

Well I did ask for the PurpleRain lowdown, but I didn't expect him to sit on the fence.

Sounds like an interesting choice - obviously like all appointments one that might be hit and miss. But This feels like it has more boom or bust potential than most....

best case scenario - attacking and attractive high pressing football, brings on some youth players and makes some astute foreign signings bringing value for money.

worst case - run out of town after 10 games cos billy sharp can’t understand his accent.

I’d be more into this type of appointment than some journeyman Neil Lennon / Pulis type. Over the past year I’ve come to value football as entertainment more - i want to watch us attack and play good football. I’m not saying results don’t matter but I want to be entertained.

Someone flexible but with attacking principles Sounds good to me, especially as a way to get the most out of a squad set up with only one formation in mind (3-5-2).

Not some random mate of JVW who's been a manager less than a year. Would be astonishingly stupid but fully expect it.
I follow jvw on twitter he's not my mate .he follows me I'm not his mate .get the drift .many people in football know each other because that's the circle they are in ,the lad obviously did well all through Leipzig's youth structure ,he's doing well in the Belgian league (well safe in the top flight ) right age and profile .think it's nailed on to be fair

"Wilder did the right thing. Getting young players in while at their lower value is great. I know they aren't experienced but what can you expect when we pay 9p a week"

"GET ME THE MOST EXPERIENCED, EXPENSIVE MANAGER YOU CAN. IF I HAVEN'T HEARD OF HIM AND HE'S NOT GOT LOADS OF SUCCESS HE'S SHIIIIIIIT. PRINCE OUT"

Whoever gets the job ,a good sprinkling of positivity and good will needed .to be fair nothing can be as poor as we've been this season .utb

What gave you the impression that he was rich?
The only folk that seem surprised are those who deluded themselves that he was a billionaire in the first place when it was never claimed .
I know. I just hoped he was hiding a couple of billionaire mates somewhere

I’ve got to admit my heart sank a bit when I read the OP but he sounds very much like a Pochettino type signing (when he came from Espanol to Southampton). Not hugely experienced but has clearly made an impact in his first job which has made people sit up, take notice and think “we’ve got one here”.

As others have said, rather him than a Pulis/Lennon type appointment.

When people talk about “experience” it’s not just about the numbers, how many years you’ve put in, it’s more about proving you can do the job, make an impact and that you’re not on the way down after a successful career. From what you’ve said, it seems like if we didn’t grab this bloke now, he could be out of our reach in a couple of seasons, if he continues on his current trajectory.

I will, of course, support whoever is appointed BUT I would consider this appointment to be a little underwhelming.
Next season we will have one of the strongest squads in the Championship and with the parachute payments we will be an attractive proposition to potential managers. Given that, I would have expected us to be able to attract someone with a better track record.

As I've said before, everyone's track record starts somewhere and just because they've been heading in the right direction so far there's no guarantee that their journey will continue to follow a good course.

We want the next big thing, not the one looking for a last hurrah.

Past performance is no guarantee of future returns ( I love that phrase, it's so appropriate in so many situations )
