Aaron Ramsdale interview

Not like he was a cut above up to Christmas.

Sad to hear that he basically refused to play vs West Brom to push his move.

Under contract the club had every right to haggle for the best deal.

Wish him no harm, but didn't shed him in a great light.

Unsurprisingly, wages weren't mentioned, and I'd guess that Ramsdale would at least look at adding an additional £25-35grand a week with various add-ons, incentives and bonuses........with those sort of figures why would a Championship player need any type of incentive to make that move?

Sometimes short memories enable supporters to re-invent how things were. Ramsdale wasn't universally loved by sections of our supporters so this wasn't a bad move for those fans who didn't rate the player. Add to which we didn't have the appearance of a club with a great deal of ambition or direction.....then a change of manager, the reinstatement of Chris Basham (the ultimate 'steady Eddie') to the team, and what I can only describe as a change of mood throughout the club and bit by bit we started to look stronger in defence with the ability to snatch a goal without conceding, and voila! We manage to watch a change in fortunes within a matter of months, something that previously I thought was impossible.

Currently good times for any Blade, but this season still has a lot of football to be played and we'll see how responsive the players are to what's ahead. Most supporters have given Heckingbottom their seal of approval, with good reason I must add, so there's currently a buzz about this club that makes life more than tolerable and with good reason I must add.

I don't get it? What did he say that didn't make complete sense?

If I could see the company I was working for was in for a rough ride, then one of the biggest in the country came in for me and doubles my wages and gave me a promise of building a long term plan for me, I'd be off in a shot.

Some people think footballers should feel as passionately about the club as fans do, it's a load of rubbish, you look after yourself and your career first and foremost, whatever business you're in, you wouldn't get far if you didn't

He was a fuckin liability until November at least, but fair play to him he started to turn it around and show his potential and was a decent keeper (but no more than that) at the end of his Blades career. Put it this way, he werent no Kelly or Tracey.

Still the way he is going (he's playing well but making sure he is very much noticed at Arsenal and keeping himself highly visible with fan rapport at all times probably under instruction from his agent) he will have a decent spell between the sticks there and will end up netting us £30m sale fee. I wish him all the best as that will be good for SUFC.

Not sure why anyone can go off on one over this tbh. Think that's first time for United asking for £40m for a player.

I don't blame him for having some ill feeling, he suffered absolute dog's abuse in the first half of last season and despite being comfortably our player of the season he still came out with little credit from his own fans. I can also forgive it as being a consequence of the Wilder fallout, and not feeling engaged with a new manager is common so fair enough on that point.

What I don't understand and don't respect is what motivated him to share the inner workings of a transfer, openly admit he refused to play during negotiations and make some pretty transparent inferences about the two clubs' relationship with each other and how their business is carried out.

I'd be stunned if Arsenal and his agent are totally ok with it, and I'm sure we wouldn't be ok with someone we signed saying the same things about their previous club. He also thinks he's maintaining integrity by saying "I'm not naming names" which he did 3 times, but it comes across as the opposite.

I never expect players to bleed Sheffield United, but I'm surprised he doesn't take any opportunity to reference he came through here, obviously has many friends here and within the club. The only remotely positive thing he said was "they might still get promoted", which was a backtrack to cover himself after writing us off two sentences before, talking about SJ's sacking.

He speaks very confidently about having got the #1 shirt ahead of schedule, maybe he's been reassured about it but it comes across as unprofessional.

He's seems a good bloke and a really good keeper. His bread is buttered on the right side at this moment and he's probably just excited by the door that's opened up, but he comes across as arrogant and naive here.

Things come back to bite so I hope he's learned some lessons which might prove valuable if/when Arsenal want to sell, or he loses his place, or both.

Don’t blame ramsdale one bit the boy got his move and has smashed it out at the park at Arsenal and has looked far far better than he ever did for us he looks a world class keeper so far

If he wouldn’t have forced that move he may have left but he may have still be with us mid-table in the championship just look at Sam Johnstone

I’m not sure he comes across as a prat he talks well and speaks well not his fault that we don’t like what he is saying

Not lost any respect for him you should do what’s best in your interest which he did 👍

The biggest takeaway I got from that was the bit where he said that someone behind the scenes here told him that ‘we didn’t ask you to take a pay cut when you were conceding goals’

What a wank thing to say to a 22 year old goalkeeper, especially when it’s not ONLY his job to stop the goals going in. My money is on this statement coming from Bettis.

Don’t blame Ramsdale for wanting to go & someone at this club was playing him for a twat & it backfired.

May as well stick him in your squad to molest Middlesbrough.

He'd probably refuse to play anyway.

I think the thing that pissed me off the most was that he came through our system and therefore helped him become a pro. Since our system has produced four current England Internationals with Maguire Walker Calvert -Lewin and himself, you think there would be a hint of respect. Second we brought him back to the club whilst in the prem. Which was a huge gamble for us after Hendo (who without being churlish I feel more comfortable having in goal). Ramsdale had a horrendous start yet we worked with him to improve massively. So to refuse to play for us whilst we were trying to make the best of a situation for the club was a disgrace even in these times of player power. It also means how on earth can you build a team if players are going to continually look elsewhere despite the help, time and money you have put into them?
I used to like the kid not any longer.
