If we sign…

All the signings they’ve made have been underwhelming for me. Not one has jumped out as someone who will boss the division. Billing was the one they should have gone all out for if they wanted promotion this year. Bindon isn’t ready for this level, he’s too green, adding Ben Mee will help his development, but this should have been done a long time ago

Nathan Redmond (rumoured to training with us)
Danny Ings (rumoured to be training with us)
Ben Mee (training with us)
Japhet Tanganga (rumoured to be in personal terms)

Alongside the Malmo lad, Ben Godfrey, Louie Barry and Soumare….

Would this be a successful transfer window for you?

And can we overturn the start of the season and get up into autos?

That would be an incredible statement from our owners IMO.

Or is it a manager thing?

No. We desperately need midfielders. The past games have shown our squad is not up for playing Selles style with the current crop of CM’s.

Need at least one CDM.

We also need a winger, if we are playing cannon at RW it shows the other wingers in the squad are not up to scratch.

No.

All feels a bit scattergun, last minute desperation.

No clear signs of planning or at least repeated change of planning.

So far, I would rate this window at most a 3/10

Redmond and Ings both crap and wreak of desperation
Injury prone journey men

The Malmo lad replacing the Bosnian Boy.
The lack of names I can spell are ruining this club

Bindons too slow for this level, if we got Mee and Tanganga I’d be tempted to send Bindon back to Reading and let them develop him, whilst we concentrate on developing Zatte, Zlatt, the lad from Malmo, who’s actually our player.

Binman is a florest

Is Selles approving these signings in the committee? If so then he must see they fit his system, and should be trusted by CoH, if not, then they'll be substitutes until the Manager changes.
My personally conspiracy theory is early doors it was left to this Bord character and his software company. Being the most generous happy clapper in the world I would have said this has had limited success. Caceres & Nwachukwu seem to be a waste of money, Ukaki looks like he might be decent and it’s too early to say on Polenkadov.

It seems after our start to the season they’re now in a flap to get people in the door and seem to be relying on Bettis & Selles’ contacts.

I’d be interested to know if Zatterstrom was identified by the AI software or by our scouting in the region.

No, leaves us weaker in every position (except GK) than the same point last year. Mid-table quality squad. If Campbell / Cooper / Hamer gets a long term injury, lower than mid-table.

Departures so far have all been understandable - particularly the Anel one. We can't let big financial assets leave for nothing. Moore is on the wane and we've been afforded the opportunity to make a profit a year on whilst getting sizeable wages off the wage bill. Brewster was obviously offered something. I wouldn't offer him big money or a long deal. Both are too big a gamble give his injury history

Souza is the disappointment. It only makes sense if he was shown an ambitious project and refused to extend his deal on affordable terms for us. Anything else would be worrying. With two years left every player should face similar questions as it's not in our interest for them to get in their last 12 months.. If they won't sign they should be for sale at the right price. If the club doesn't have the confidence to take that approach with everyone, it's the recruitment and/or financial power of the owners that's the issue not the sales strategy..This approach should be taken with Hamer too.

Recruitment has been tardy, reactive and naive. It looks like advantageous signings like Darling and Dunne were vetoed - both really good additions on frees imo.

The lad on loan from Forest looks a naive gamble. We aren't signing an asset to improve for ourself, but instead have brought in a kid to improve for others when we really could've used an experienced head in that position. It's similar with Soumare. His position is one where experience is hugely beneficial and we are probably borrowing a player we won't own down the road (when he's gained that experience). From Souttar to Bindon. From Souza to Soumare

We lack permanent signings. We haven't replaced Moore so far and definitely lack a right back, right winger, central midfielder and centre forward that can play with his back to goal. The Tanganga signing looks rich, not the type of bargain I was expecting; although he's admittedly impressed me when I've seen him. There's thankfully still time to dig ourself out of this hole before the window shuts.

Can’t for the life of me understand how the signing of two geriatric injury prone forwards is going to contribute to this Selles ball vertical fast press chaos football bollocks. I anticipate already worn hamstrings twanging very quickly.

NO
It has been a disaster from the owners who have just woke up to the fact that we are in a downward spiral. While going down the AI route for the future they have taken their eyes off the ball and forgot about the present. What we are left with is a club in panic mode trying to replace top Championship players with just a few days left to do so. Most other clubs did their business weeks ago meaning we are paying over the odds for Tanganga and looking at free signings when everyone decent have signed up to other clubs. Danny Ings might score some goals at this level if he ever gets fit Redmond hasn't played for years even Ben Mee has a air of desperation. The whole fiasco has seen us throw 9 points away already without a fight and two tough games coming up now for a squad low on confidence playing a system that nobody understands if indeed there is a system, don't look like it to me.

Will we have thrown 15 points away before we have our next home game?

If so will Rubén Séllés still be in a job?

Even the piggies playing Barry Binman and a bunch of kids look to have more idea on how to get points, who would have thought that shower of shite would be higher in the table than us?

we definetly need another midfielder peck is our weak link in there how he got the nod in front of soumare was baffling he needs to be benched pity about billing he would have been perfect for us imo not too fussed about redmond but ings and mee would be 2 very good experienced signings and think needed to steady the ship just hope this means were going with 2 up top

Whilst I don't think it's a bad window, as such. What seems really clear is that none of the first team signings fits the profile that the new owners were said to be targeting. Surely the likes of Redmond, Mings, Mee and Godfrey aren't data driven signings. Even two of the younger signings in Barry and Bindon have previously played under Selles. So is the AI data recruitment just not working, or simply not as central to our strategy as we've been led to believe?

It does seem to be getting more and more unclear what the strategy is.

The AI thing has got a bit misunderstood, if they just said they were going to widen our scouting network to be more european/global, no one would have batted an eyelid. Especially if they also included a sentence about focussing on bringing over raw talent from overseas who may spend some time in our academy structure. That seems to sum up what they wanted to do and I think its a half decent, long term plan.

Where its now gone wrong is we messed up with the paperwork side of things (the Carcares debarcle), we sold 2 good first team players that we all knew were on their way out (plus Moore) and we haven't replaced the number of players we needed.

Bindon is this years Gilchrist... but he has been needing to start every game and is struggling
Barry is this years JRS... not shown he is as good (yet)
Soumare is this years Choudrey

Tanganga is a great signing, Mee should add some experience.

The Korean RB will be an interesting addition, again, experienced.

Ings and Redmond both would play a part if they are fit but it just seems a bit like they have run out of ideas.

If we do this and we end up a solid mid table side, it might allow us to then build the academy and young talent for a promotion push in a season or 2.

Yes fair comment. Forgot Hamer as he's been a bit MIA in Selles set up in the games I've seen other than the goal of the season! Doesn't include Millwall, as had more enjoyable things to do, so our seats were empty.
Barry looks to be in that mould too from what I've seen of him so far. Real nuisance on the wing.

Regarding our strategy, sitting amongst our new owners is Bettis. He’s been the club’s CEO for over nine years and knows the score more than anybody. By definition a CEO sets the company's overall vision, leading strategic decision-making, managing senior management, and acting as the public face of the organisation to stakeholders. So where’s our ‘public face’ been since May? Maybe he should explain our current strategy?

Need something good/special before Saturday, because unbeaten Boro away before an international break would be hard enough, it's just got even harder
