Well, I might as well kick this off now as it looks like we have our first publically "confirmed" friendly match. I'll update this as more information comes out.

6th July - 10th July - MALTA - Details to be confirmed

28th July - LINCOLN CITY (Away) - 19:30 Kickoff

We are pleased to announce that a pre-season friendly with Sheffield United has been finalised for Tuesday 28 July 2009 at Sincil Bank Stadium (ko 7.30pm).

As part of our 125th anniversary celebrations, all of our home pre-season friendlies this summer are linked in to landmark fixtures in the Club's history and the match against the Blades, who are pushing for promotion to the Premier League, is no exception as they were our opponents for our first ever Football League match, back on September 3rd 1892.

Ticket Prices are out:

Blades confirm 'Football, Fun, Music and Sun' summer tour to Malta.

Sheffield United's groundbreaking sponsorship deal with the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) will see the Blades' pre-season tour of Malta take place from 6th-10th July 2009.

The tour will coincide with the 'Isle of MTV' concert, taking place on Malta on 8th July. With headline acts including Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga and Metro Station, the combination of 'Football, Fun, Music and Sun' promises to be a big draw for British holiday makers visiting the popular Mediterranean island.

Sheffield United Chief Executive Jason Rockett said: "The combination of football and music will make this a fantastic occasion for Sheffield United fans, Maltese locals and international visitors alike, and will provide another great reason to visit Malta.

"Sheffield United will soon be announcing a series of exciting promotions that we will be staging in conjunction with the MTA. The campaign will be designed to engage football fans, families and students so they can make the most of 'Football, Fun, Music and Sun' on the island."

Sheffield United is currently working closely with the MTA to finalise details of the pre-season tour. In addition to any fixtures, the club is working on plans to host a number of unique and exciting fan-related events. These range from a Blades Beach BBQ party and exclusive opportunities to meet the team, through to autograph sessions and the chance for fans to attend open training sessions. Full details will be announced as soon as plans are confirmed.

The squad will also be supporting a number of community initiatives on the pre-season tour, including visits to a number of the island's schools and hospitals.

Last month the Blades squad enjoyed a visit to the island for warm weather training as part of their end-of-season preparations. The players used the opportunity to visit hospitals and schools, providing football tuition to the local children.

Sheffield United now looks forward to the pre-season tour of Malta that will take place from 6th-10th July 2009.

Also, the proposed 'Steel City Cup' will not take place this year. As stated in a MTA release, the opportunity was looked into, but it was decided the game would not be possible due to logistical reasons.

Just added ticket prices for Lincoln in original post.

They are also playing Ferencvaros on the 8th July.

You driving down to Lincoln Fox? If you are can I be rude and ask for a lift? :D

Would have thought so mate, depends if i've got space :)

If I have, you now have first dibs! :D

I'm assuming that if this is a first team game, it'll be taking place in Malta?

I mean Lincoln are playing Fradi at Sincil Bank.

will we be playing fradi?

Fradi are also playing the Dingles, so i'd be very shocked if some sort of Blades XI doesn't play them.

Well the Malta details are finally out...

Seems we are only actually playing one game across there though.

The cheapest option is £519.

"Saturday 11th July
Malta Hotels 'Blades in the Cold' Charity 5 a side Competition in aid of the Children's Wards at the local hospital - winning team wins tickets to see SUFC play a match in the Premiership next season."

Jumping the gun?

United haven't really got a great deal out of this.

I've found a Tuesday-Tuesday flight in the same hotel they want to charge £689 for at £488.25 and that's not by looking very hard.

Just to confirm... there are now talks of a Hungarian trip as well as some more local games.

has anyone else received the email from MTA today?

Apparently there are some Blades only offers for travel

will try and post some details

As part of the ‘Malta Music Week’ the Blades have invited popular Sheffield-based band Craine to play hits from their debut album, ‘Sleeping Vixen,’ on the evening of Tuesday, 7th July. This music feast will be hosted at the beautiful coastal resort of Bugibba.

The mid-week action starts with the Blades opening their summer training camp to the public at the Hibernians Stadium. That evening presents the chance to attend the free ‘Isle of MTV’ concert at the Il Fosos Square in Floriana, featuring headline acts The Black Eyed Peas, Lady Gaga, Metro Station and Esmée Denters, playing live in front of an expected 50,000 audience.

Another highlight of the tour will be a Blades charity evening on Thursday 9th July. Guests will have the opportunity to mingle with the Blades first team squad, as well as getting an autograph and photograph with the players. There will be a cost for a ticket, with all the profits being donated to the Inspire children’s charity. This will be a prestigious occasion to soak up the atmosphere at the Excelsior Yacht Club, enjoy stunning views of the island and a BBQ-style buffet. Sheffield band Craine and top Maltese band Winter Moods will provide the entertainment.

Providing a perfect finale to ‘Football, Fun, Music and Sun’, the Blades pre-season game will be staged on the evening of Friday 10th July, against Maltese Premier League Club Hibernians. The Blades will be providing coaches to ferry supporters to and from the game.

Sheffield United Chief Executive Jason Rockett said: “’Football, Fun, Music and Sun’ demonstrates what a unique partnership we have with the MTA. We wanted to create a number of events that will be attended by the Blades squad to enable fans and the Maltese to have the opportunity to get closer to the team. Combined with the ‘Malta Music Week’, this is a special occasion that can be enjoyed by football fans, families, holiday-makers and the people of Malta.”
