Just heard him on RS saying he's enjoyed it here and he's a free agent.
I rather have Baptiste and another similar.
For me Edgar just ain't good enough

Have you ANY IDEA just how much wages Baptiste is on?

Unfortunately it's not a straight choice of one or the other

With a good partner I think he'll do. He's looked better since Baptiste has come in and he'll cost nowt, which will of course appeal to us.

Nowhere near as consistent as you need your centre halves to be.

Too soft.

Will miss games through international duty.

Hasn't been good or consistent enough in a back four.

Hasn't been good or consistent enough without Baptiste.

We can do better, and probably on a free transfer.

He needs to spend the entire summer losing fitness and picking up injuries. His attitude has been spot on so if he could piss the management off in some way that would be great.

As a bonus, he could include a minor run in with the law enforcement agencies and perhaps partake in some recreational drug use then he'll be a #trueblade

We can afford Baptistes wages if he can't come somebody similar.
Edgar will be on good money just think we can do better

Edgar's good enough for a League 1 promotion year, given good partners at the back. Not good enough for the Championship in due course though.

If I were the manager I'd be laying the foundations of a defence with improvement in it and one which could potentially take us to the Premier League.

Pie in the sky? That's the manager's brief, or should be. We've seen a lot of dominant, young central defenders at Bramall Lane this season and they've all been playing for the opposition.

Mark Beevers is out of contract apparently, I'd rather see us go for him if Millwall don't go up. Shaun Williams (former MK Dons) is another out of contract Millwall player we could consider, he'd be a good replacement for McEveley. Can play centre half or midfield, good on the ball, left footed and takes penalties.

Two solid CBs good call

Edgar has been quality recently. I think it has coincided with us playing 3-5-2 and also the addition of Baptisite.

Regarding Baptiste, I think we need to hope Middlesbrough get promoted. If so, is he really going to get a game? Will he want to drop back to League 1 for a season on loan? Zero chance of signing him permanently.

I'd have no problem signing Edgar, if we can get him at a reasonable wage. Baptiste will probably stay in the championship and will be too expensive for us. I thought the 2 Barnsley lads looked as good, if not better than Baptiste.

ahha - the centre half dilemma - and as some have eluded to - it's now a 2+ year old problem.

If Adkins had solved the problem in the summer we would at least be in the playoffs (at least) - for me Clough, like most of us, knew it was an issue and would have addressed the problem if he had stayed, so give him some credit. Adkins didn't or wouldn't even consider and now only has himself to blame for the stick he is getting.

As for the 3-5-2 - it is there to accommodate the fact that Edgar and McEv can't play in a 2 and there is no evidence that Baptiste can play in a 2 either and we haven't seen him play in a 2. He just might be as bad with Edgar or McEv in L1. His pedigree is good, but then we have thought that of others who look decent a division up but can't adapt to a division lower (we have plenty of examples).

A team should ideally have 2 strong centre backs AND 2 full backs that can bomb forward.

Three centre backs is a bloody excuse for two not being good enough in the first place. We play 3 centre backs because it fits in with our present slowwwwwww midfield combination which is also not good enough.

This is going to be torture until we know the retention list and Adkins starts to bring in some players - I really hope he knows NOW who to bring in - just couldn't abide another o'grady/higdon type scenario.

If I were the manager or chairman , I would have sorted this ground hog day debacle 2 years ago . Laughable and sums us up as a club , with Adkins not being as smart as perhaps he thinks he is.

Edgar not the answer . Flat back 4 with 2 shit hot CBs and sweet full backs. Pity about Badger and Shaw or Hemsley , they may have more savvy .:D and THEY would be the answer.

If you remove our new dynamic wing-back from the equation, all of our centre-backs are currently up for departure this summer (Baptiste, Edgar, McEveley, McGahey, Kennedy). We are simply not going to get rid of all of them – we will be lucky to get two new first-choice centre-backs into the squad.

Collins has already gone. Kennedy is as good as gone. We will need at least 4 centre-backs in the squad. Of the remaining four, I hope we try and get Baptiste (but doubt he will join). I predict two of Edgar/McEveley/McGahey will be offered deals as part of the squad. I would keep Edgar & McEveley, and bring two new players in for the other two positions in the squad.

I've got doubts about Edgar, but a lot is getting the right partnership at CB....and as pointed out previously, some are going have to stay!
Personally, I'd hope we're looking at players like Curtis Nelson at Plymouth. Fast, strong, young with potential...dunno whether he's signed a new contract yet or if other's are in of him...he's from Newcastle so might fancy a move further north.

Whilst I disagree with you about the merits of 3-5-2 and 4-4-2 for that matter, I agree that we are tortured by the fact that our manager doesn't give us any clue what his preferred system is and whether he is capable of shaping a squad to man the system.

Bohemian wrote the 'O.P. of the Year' IMO - " Successful Signings since 2006" and demonstrated that our best managers had a definite system of playing and worked towards it it with signings which suited the system; not necessarily the best players ever but players who fitted within the system ( and the culture).

It is torture watching the haphazard management we have seen all season and 'torture' is not too strong a word.

But we will sign him.

Can see the defence lookimg like this as we revert to a back four once Baltiste goes back and Brayford is sold..

Long

New RB. Edgar. New CB. Mceverly.

If Money is really tight they may even move Basham back to CB.

Richard Wood's out of contract too. Yes it would be dirty as fuck, but in this division we could do worse than reuniting him with Beevers.

Ricky, there's dirty, then there's shoulder shrugging, "What me guv?" so-called professionalism. It's often been commented on these pages that we need a couple of beasts as central defenders, hopefully with a bit of mobility and pace between them. My take is very few will mind if they see this area of our game shored up and a no-go area for the opposition. Getting out of this division is the priority, and if it takes the footballing version of a brick shit-house (or two) to restore confidence to our less than secure defence, I doubt anyone will complain. From there, confidence might grow throughout the team, knowing we're capable of shutting down this division's rated forwards allowing us to concentrate on penetrating the opposing defence. I'd be happy with a "Take no prisoners" philosophy, can't see how anyone would have a problem with that.

We lack guile, the nearest we currently we have on our books who could produce this quality are either Coutts or Baxter, but neither convincingly produce on a regular basis. So a cunning midfielder with an eye for threading a pass, plus a forward tried and tested at this level, who'll know how to keep the opposition defenders on their toes potentially causing goal-scoring chances to be created......just my two-penneth worth as regards additions during the summer.

3-5-2 or 4-4-2 doesn't really matter to me, as long as the formation brings the results we need for promotion. If we bring in defenders, I want (and I think we all want) big tough lads, which is where Baptiste fits the bill, he appears to be the sort of bloke who would never nesh a tackle and would mix it if things got rough.

That being said, we have held clean sheets to teams above us, in recent weeks, and I think sorting out midfield is as much, if not more of a priority.

Hes basically begging to be given a contract.

Hes ok as back up. but nothing more.

I like Edgar more than a lot on here seem to. He’s got a decent balance between being good in the air, reading the game and playing out. He’s also a good age for a centre half. If the terms are right, I’d sign him as I don’t think we’ll get better on a free without breaking the bank in terms of wages. If we could get him to sign for say £4k per week, I’d be for it. Reckon Baptiste will be on around £15k or so at ‘Boro.

Blimey, £200k a year to play in the third tier of English football. If only I had not messed around in sports/football lessons at school!!!! ;)

Have no problem giving him a one year deal but it all depends on wages

That Collins fella at Tampa Bay Rowdies is supposed to be pretty good!

In all seriousness I would happily go into next season with Edgar and Baptiste (or similar) as CH partners.
