Phipps 'tired of being abused win, lose or draw'

I was seeing this develop last night and Jim reacted badly to a guy that sits just behind me in the Kop (saxilby). He's very mild mannered and my thought is that Jims stress levels must be high atm and therefore his tolerance levels v low.

(Btw I'm not the original tweeter to Jim - subtle difference in our usernames on here !)

It is one thing blocking people who are clearly abusing him which he is right to do but it's another if he is now blocking people offering constructive criticism.

If that is the case then he is forgetting why he joined social media. He wanted to engage with fans and get their feedback. If he is no longer prepared to listen to fair criticism then he should close his social accounts.

His recent reaction could be the beginning of the end.

I am sure someone mentioned the other month that there was to be some big news regarding the club to be announced in January.

That rumour about big news I seem to remember came from the forum Barney so it is fairly safe to say it can be disregarded

Yeah good point. A millers fan wouldn't know what's going on at our club.

Although I'm sure I read it on Twitter as well. That could have been Mike "In the know" Stephenson.

I am sure the club will inform the fan base of any relevant information they need us to know through the many media sources available without JP input on twitter. I am sure many fans enjoyed his input but the nature of the beast left him open to abuse and he would be naïve if he thought otherwise. Personally I think his withdrawal conveniently coincides with the JTW rumours of little incoming, but I like a good conspiracy theory.

Agreed. It looks like he's at the end of his tether and a good man may well be being driven out of the club.

He was part of the process which sacked Clough, appointed Adkins and team.

Potentially the best decision for years.

Have people really got nowt better to do with their Saturday evenings? And whilst I do feel for him, why doesn't he just come off it?

This guy gets a lot of stick on twatter too. Dishes it out now & then as well. It's what happens.

Anyway, as regards Jimbo's flouncy flounce, hope he's reflected on it since. And hope he realises he overreacted ridiculously & is able to have a bit of a laugh about it now. We all make ourselves look a bit silly now & then.

It was me that Jim had the meltdown with earlier.

I sent a bit of sarcastic tweet at the end of today's match implying we had beaten a divisional powerhouse (this is after NA spent all week calling 2nd bottom Colchester dangerous ffs) and that I bet Jim is mega proud.

The Co-Chairman of our football club replied with:

"I am sure I don't deserve your silly abuse, pal. I'm glad to get the 3 points. Let's build a run of form. #onwards"

I replied with a calm and rational reply of:

"You're the chairman of a massively underachieving football club, change that and the digs might stop #youarenotmypal

Then rather than engage me in a civilised conversation he began to make out he was being continually abused personally.

So I sent him a private message to take things away from the public spotlight and to build a more calm conversational platform to maybe exchange opinions and dialogue.

Me "I see you don't reply when I make a reasoned come back. The word abuse is questionable also, you really should be a little more thick skinned if you are to continue to engage with a large disgruntled fanbase. The way your consortium has run the club over the last few years needs to be constantly questioned. We are not progressing in any way and you seem to be fine with that."

Jim "No it is not questionable. Your behaviour is moronical"

Me "Moronical? I'd say letting a club of SUFC's size fester in this division with a bloated squad paying wages to 34 Year Old journeymen and selling every bit of talent we have, is slightly more moronic than send the odd mocking tweet your way. You're a grown man in charge of a club with highly emotional local ties, expect some mocking if you are not achieving. If you don't either leave, change your ethos or close your account."

So there you go, the full story.

I've left the part out when he went on an ego massaging exercise, for the next 3 hours, conversing only with people who called him great and thanked him for being on twitter.

Interesting, but emphatically NOT "the full story" as Jim has not put his side of events.

There's also the dig at the end about "ego-massaging" as well.

Will Jim and the Prince be here in a year?
Under what circumstances could the Prince withdraw?
What would the consequences be?

Interesting questions.

It just shows you how opinions differentiate !
Last season we reached the play offs comfortably and lost out in the PO Semi - This season we are playing just as bad and look to be struggling to make the play offs !
After the Swindon game Mr Clough alluded to the need to add a centre back and striker - we have that striker in Billy Sharp but still require a centre back despite signing Sammon, Woolford, Hammond !
As you say Jim Phipps was part of the process to sack Mr Clough and appoint Mr Adkins - doesn't look a whole lot better from my point of view !
And, Mr Phipps was part of the process that backed Mr Clough to sign all those players that are now deemed surplus to requirements or useless !
Sorry, WHF but your support of Mr Adkins is bordering on obsession - Take off those Rose Coloured Specs - yesterday we didn't deserve to beat Colchester and was extremely fortunate - At present the team look a middle of the table team at best despite probably the biggest wage budget in the league !!!

Have people really got nowt better to do with their Saturday evenings? And whilst I do feel for him, why doesn't he just come off it?

Because there have been endless positive interactions.

Jim had effectively istm an open door policy - though it looks like he's belatedly learned to Block - this is never good in practice. It is like letting in everyone who knocks on the door of your house: Imagine the consequences when word gets around.

Middle Eastern partners out , Chinese partners and investment in . Never say never .

What's the communication like between the McCabe and Prince camp. I can see another page turning chapter in SUFC. As long as we benefit on the field of play , only time will tell.

Politics , finance , football - never a dull moment at BDTBL.

What does istm and bc mean you seem to use them an awful lot ?

Look at you coming over all high and mighty, and preaching to everyone, yet you can't debate with anyone on here unless they are in agreement because you block anyone who has a different opinions to you.

I don't just mean right now, in the past people have been horrible. And all of the vile abusive people are an embarrassment to this club, so that includes the ones that were abusive towards you, then the ones to Jess Ennis, etc. They are people that are just too simplistic to work their anger and frustrations out in a non-barbaric way. They are the kind of people that give football a bad name, the world over.

Football is horrible to be involved with sometimes with some of the people it attracts, and I sometimes wish my dad never got my involved with it as a child.
Youre right look at the disgusting behaviour of these so called " fans " https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10153353265921636&id=13312631635

I hope Phipps is gone within a year, he brings nothing to the table, it's not his money, he can't even travel to Sheffield anymore and he is splitting the fanbase.

And further up this thread someone asks whether there could be pork involved. Fraid not, I imagine they have better things to do than get involved in our shite, like watching a team full of quality players, bought using game changing investment make moves towards the top end of the championship.

He isn't splitting the fan base.

People are simply dumbfounded by the attention seeking children who need to tag him in Twitter twat posts 15 minutes after a last minute win.

He's a spin merchant and you've fell for it, winning in the last minute against 2nd bottom is nothing to be proud of.

The acceptance of mediocrity at this club has killed it, why even try and improve when the fans are happy to watch league one scrap fests every week, hoping to nick a draw or a last minute win.

What a ridiculous response.
I've fell for nothing.

As a football fan and a Sheffield United I will celebrate ANY last minute winner, as would most sensible football fans.

I've no idea what sort of person would seek attention from Jim Phipps on Twitter straight after a win. I cannot get my head around that mindset.

As a fed up Unitedite I felt 3 points at the 2nd bottom club is the least we should be achieving if we are serious about promotion.

Maybe you're happy watching such festering shite in this division and quickly getting left behind by the other club in this city.

I'm not.

Think you have done exceptionally well to be that diplomatic.
