Phipps 'tired of being abused win, lose or draw'

I like Jim. I think he comes across well and is a breath of fresh air on the PR side of things.

That said, the first thing I thought when I saw his tweets was "he wants out before the window shuts". Hopefully I'm just being cynical but it seems a strange time for him to come offline when he has received much worse abuse at other times. He got hammered when the last window shut and we were 2nd then. If we sign no one this time around then he's going to be getting more grief than ever

You can't really see all the messages he receives either.

I got the impression the one he went ballistic over was:

"What a win against one of the division's powerhouses, I bet @JamesDPhipps is mega proud. #twitterblades #ffs"

A bit sarky, but did it really merit Jim's flouncy strop?

(I'm speaking as a fan of Jim's btw. Just that I think he's gone overboard here.)

Jim's overreacting. Needs to calm down, leave it for today & maybe think about getting involved in "discussions" on twatter straight after matches when tempers are potentially frayed.

Can't really see what he's complaining about on this occasion.

It's not discussions it's a constant stream of abuse at pretty much any time. It ebbs and flows - and I imagine it flowed again today and Tuesday - but it's always there.

"We're fucking shit" was the chant at the game - we weren't.

Can't really imagine what it was like online.

The only trouble with social media is it makes people think that their opinion is worth something, when in actual fact it's not. There should be some sort of block that lets the poorly educated view only.
That should be your signature

Being on social media he leaves himself open to dickheads giving him abuse.

He doesn't deserve the abuse he gets but he should really start to use the block button more often.

Trouble is that he opened himself up for a lot of it with some of his nonsense tweets and posts on facebook. Not excusing him getting abused, but he has been posting about a game, a city, a club and a set of fans which are alien to him. He knows nothing about football except what he decides to retweet... which funnily enough is the positive stuff.

I think its spiralled too far for him and whilst his intentions might've been good in the begining, he's ended up trying to reason with idiots on a subject (ie football) which he doesn't appreciate properly

Bullshitters always get found out Jim, you are no different.

Funnily i listened to Radio 2 yesterday, they had a guy on from Atlanta, USA from a pro-guns radio station. Jezza Vine opened it up for callers and he did the typical American Customer service approach of being patronisingly polite, courteous and friendly. I think that grated on me more than his opinions, but the point was that it was bullshit. I think whilst Jim is probably genuine, he does come across as a patronising bullshitter.

He really shouldve stuck to discussing the business side, not getting involved in football discussions.

You may have a point there although to be fair his tweet today was just this.

Not sure that deserves any kind of abuse from any Blades fan.

Tbf, Jim gets plenty of love online too. For all those "aggrandising themselves at Jim's expense", there are plenty aggrandising Jim.

He realises full well he's personally popular. The grief he gets is because of performances, results & perceived underinvestment which, given that he's joint chairman, is as it should be.

He's making a mountain out of a molehill over this.

Couldn't disagree more.

He's onto a hiding to nothing with two owners both of whom don't have the same view of how to move us forward. Only way this would work is if the owners are willing to throw whatever it takes at getting us up and don't have to balance any books. Otherwise you're always going to defending something or other from those that know better.

Do you think there's no chance the Haters are going to drive Jim out of the club?

I've wondered about it for a while, and the Tweet doesn't surprise me.

Politics come into play on this one . The January transfer window and minimum action will not help . My view is The Prince , JP are realising we may be a family club , but with a growing radical element of supporters who IMO border on the edge . Albeit Adkins puts a positive spin on all things SUFC, next season discontent will be worst unless we are 12 points clear by Christmas and have signed the new TC.
We need calm by fans , board , players , management or our investors will pull out . We then will be up the swanny without a paddle.

They made a rod for their own backs from day one with over the top promises, phrases such as "game changing" "think Liverpool" "we don't need to sell our best players anymore" should never have been said as they have found them impossible to fulfill.

If they have been getting personal abuse then that is wrong, but they really can't be that surprised that people are pissed off at six years in League one with no sign of promotion on the horizon.

To be fair to Jim he can't please everybody all the time and he wouldn't manage to even if we were winning every week so I really don't know why he tries, he is on a hiding to nothing by talking to fans on twitter.

He's damned if he tweets he's damned if he doesn't. We want information and openness from the club and that's what he attempts to do. He is American and very much in the 'have a nice day' mode and there's nothing wrong with that.

He's also a fan, so to tweet 'get in Blades' should not lead to the obnoxious outbursts that some people think is acceptable. I'm sure he realises our shortcomings but he was celebrating a win. Nowt wrong with that, I'll take three points, good performance or not.

He has to accept that he will get stick, but he has to deal with it better and ignore some people.
He has to remember why he started using twitter in the first place for the club, surely its to promote the club in a positive way? To pass on information to fans?
He has to stop listening/ replying to idiotic fans.

I always point this out when it comes to our board on social media. Remember when Strap-on at the pigs did it? We all thought it was cringeworthy and embarrassing for them.

That said, he doesn't deserve the abuse. I'm sure he's open to discussing anything any of you who use Twitter may have to say about the club. 99% of us would go about doing that in the right way. I bet when we are playing poor, not getting the results the 1% are on directing abuse at him and calling him every name going.

The issue with Jim is that although he is a nice bloke he isn't a blade but try's desperately to be one.

I feel like having a Lion King type moment:

Everything in life has its place; the fans are the fans and are free to debate, discuss, praise and criticise the team with each other as we are all the same level (Fan Level)

Jim is the 'chairman' and can do all of the above with directors and chairman and a manger of the club as these are his level.

Being on Twitter just blurs the line between the two and you end up with fans thinking their opinion counts and Jim thinking he's one of the blades (neither is true)

Get off Twitter Jim lad and concentrate on the day job (less travelling would be a start)

I read a story once about a striker who played under Barry Fry (a black player who had a pineapple haircut Jason Lee I think) who was getting abuse of fans for his 'pineapple' head!

He went to complain to Barry Fry who said
"You can do 2 things to stop the abuse, start scoring goals or get your hair cut " :)

Using this anology on Phipps/Board and the abuse they can do 2 things to stop it.

A) Sling their hook
B) get us promotion

Simple really :)

Jim's making himself look an idiot right now on Twitter. He's the chairman of a professional organization and he's arguing with people on Twitter. It's playground stuff, and from his perspective completely futile.

Makes him and the club look very unprofessional.

He comes across as a great guy with his heart in the right place, but he's on a hiding to nothing here and someone in his position, with his intelligence and education should know better and stop being so naive.

Get off Twitter and concentrate on doing your job.

Sung It :)

Next home game, when the Pyro goes off, I want to see Jimbo striding up the Kop Steps, drawing a 357 Magnum

Muttering you Motherfucker Pyro Twitter Twats, chew on these, as he looses off into the Red Cloud

Should sort the Twitter thing out

I would imagine after a while it will eventually grind you down.

Jim wants to have this open dialogue with the fans. But some people take it too far.

I have noticed that this season both him and sela have not been as active on social media as last year.

Don't blame him, you get some real morons on there. Still, arguing with these people is futile so he shouldn't engage with them.

He engages with them because of his failing . Our Jim try's to be all things to all men , which only leads to one thing.
