Couttsy needs to shoot more, rather than always passing the responsibility to others.

I know its about opinions but I think that is a load of rubbish ,you keep saying the saying the same thing like it will come true ,but I don't think there is an accurate sentence in that whole post.

I agree it's all about opinions and to be honest I don't think Adkins would touch Coutts with a bargepole if he was not on a contract. It's all about "needs must" at the moment. Nor do I think Coutts has any future in the game because he is maybe only 70% fit and maybe always will be only that, who knows?

For me, Coutts is better than both Hammond and Basham, obviously i'm not a manager though so what do i know :)

And what do I know??!! Tend to agree though.Just wish he could get fully fit because he is quality. However Basham has really got into his stride these past 2 games and could really go on from here. If they both do then who needs Hammond? Big, big issue for the manager.

To be fair he has big issues all over the pitch, good luck to the bloke.

Sorry but I think you talk guff ,Adkins has got Coutts into a position with Brayford and Sharp where we become a very good unit down the right attacking and defending. Coutts has played 90 minutes for everyone of the last 6 or 7 games ,and has got stronger as the game has gone on in most. Have you been to the games or do you just hang on to the old views ?

The link up between Coutts and Brayford is what we have all been waiting for.

We have to thank Nigel Clough for that and it's a shame we could not get Coutts fit sooner.
Perhaps if Clough didn't play Coutts through injury he would be even better now.

Thought he played very well again. Maybe not quite as good as the Bradford game but that might be down to better opposition. He and Brayford became less effective as the game went on. I think that’s partly down to the fact that Adams didn’t link well with them like Sharp had been previously. Sammon gets a lot of stick and whilst he is limited, our team shape and understanding looks better with him on the pitch. I thought we lost our pattern of play when we brought on Baxter and Adams although I got the reasoning as both can conjure something from nothing at times.

Think you've got to give Westley a bit of credit too (though I hate doing it).

He'd identified what a problem Couttsy & Brayford presented to them first half, brought Lawrie Wilson on at left back (who went on to have an excellent half) & tightened up down their left.

In saying that, fully agree with you about our substitutions not really working & about Sammon contributing much better to team shape.

I know the third was a cock up but finally we are sorted on the right not like when Freeman was there and was open house to concede.

Yeah that was a good move by Westley. However, what the hell was their goal kick routine all about? Nearly landed them in trouble a few times. Utterly bizarre.

The single best 'footballer' at the lane along with Baxter for me.

I agree with that statement but the trouble is that Baxter doesn't often last 90 minutes either.

I'd add Reed to that list with some allowance for his age.

I'd agree. No rush for Reed though, he needs to be allowed some time to bulk up. I'd be looking to get him a loan move to League 2 with a 24 hr recall option.

Invite us on, catch us on the break. He knew he could do that through our slow midfield. I hate his brand of football but he got it bang on. The frustrating thing is, their fans even warned / goaded us about how they would set up.

I thought it was very odd. I don't think it worked. They hardly got in behind us at all and often conceded possession in their own half doing that. Shame we couldn't capitalise on it.

and when you put that alongside Adkins comment that 'we knew they like to shoot from far out' and it makes you wonder.

Not directly but it put us at odds - not to "get in behind us", but he knew they could beat us for pace if they could encourage our midfield to come out.

Coutts has put in a good shift the last few matches but our midfield as a whole needs to learn the art of shooting, we missed a few opportunities to shoot on Saturday which ultimately cost us.

For me Coutts has come good with Brayford behind him so he's in a blessed position to have the most talented player in Division One watching his back, he has some nice touches for for those suggesting moving him central, NNOOOOOOOOOO, he's awful in that position, his lack of mobility and inability to put in a tackle is highlighted in the middle, leave the lad on the wing with Brayford backing him up.

An improvement on JCR, Mmmmeehhhhhhhhh!!

Do I remember right that one of our players said he's the most technically gifted players they'd ever played with?

Technically, he looks the best player for us, his touch and movement stands out a mile. I can imagine nobody gets near him in the 5 a sides. As mentioned above, he needs to start getting in the box and adding a few goals to his game (as do all our midfield).

We started the season doing something very similar at Gillingham. Thankfully it didn't last long. When you're passing the ball to a big, clumsy centre-back who has an opposition player 10 yards away from him, I struggle to see how the positives (briefly keep possession longer?) outweigh the potential negatives (concede a goal).

There was a cameo in the Bradford game where Brayford looked to have played him a real turkey of a ball (John St touch line) that I thought had played him into trouble but his first touch and the little trick he did just blew me away.

Shame we didn't have Matty Done's pressing abilities available. He made a mug of Santos at the lane last season and could have done again.

Have we tried Basham and Coutts in the centre yet? Not sure if it would work but maybe worth a go

They haven't played centrally together in a 4-4-2 this season. They formed our central midfield in a 4-2-3-1/4-4-1-1 formation in the 5-5 draw at Swindon in the play offs last season.

They were also exceptional (by our standards) in the 2-0 win at Oakwell last season when in a 3 with them behind Holt.

I like Coutts a lot but he has 6 goals in ~220 games (I think). I can't see this happening any time soon.

There is a downside to the upside of Coutts improved form, namely he could now be attracting some admiring glances from other parties.

Selling your best players - we know where this leads.
