100 years ago today Arthur Rowely - who managed United between 1968 and 1969 was born. As great an honour as that is, he is better known for scoring more goals in the football league than anyone else..
He was also born on the same day as Queen Elizabeth II.

Billy Sharp is currently 32nd in the list, with 261. Harry Johnson Jr is 11th (most of his goals were for United), and Keith Edwards in 40th.

Other ex-United players in the list are Ian Rush (47th, with a mightly zero goals for us, but 246 overall), and Bob Hatton in 99th.

It was the season before I became a Lane regular. I have no memories of the "Arthur Rowley" season, my dad didnt talk much about the season, I remember him telling me that we had lost a FA Cup match at Mansfield but I am not sure if he was at the match. I am not sure if he went to most of the home games during the season, maybe his interest had waned after relegation to the 2nd division. It was a few years later when I had read about Rowley being our manager for just one season so I asked my dad about him.
