Wisdom of Geese

It's not an either/or though. You can laugh at the video *and* get the point. In fact it probably helps. I think the team performance and the goal celebration show that.

Again if the video is shown by some po-faced self-important guru then it, or more correctly he, deserves all sorts of derision.

Used the right way it's a simple, readily understood, analogy of a simple but important (in this context) message.

I am of the cynical variety.

If a squad of players who will have been playing football for the best part of ten years need telling that they ought to play as a team then there's no wonder we're in the third tier of English football.

I'd prefer them all to sod off down Kelham Island for a piss up together to foster some team spirit, rather than watching yoghurt-knitting videos.

We rail against this type of motivational bollocks in our office. This adorns my notice board:

Well I think the effectiveness of the whole approach - including having a gander ;) at the goose video - is obviously having a beneficial effect on the team, and from the celebration they've bought into it. I bet BDTBL is a great place to work atm.

Anyway, I got into a fb discussion about a month ago about motivational posters and this cropped up, amongst many others..

Question is, when Billy slots home from 6 yards after 17 minutes against Bury, are Blades gonna be, erm, "flocking" to the aisles & running up & down like demented geese?

Given they are professional sportsmen, I would rather they didn't.
One needs to be a good man manager in a competitive industry to see the benefit of the video and there can be no more competition than managing a league club.
If it works then good as Adkins is a first class manager who has the influence to take this club out of this division.
Well done to the board in making the change which really is an admission that they made the wrong decision with Clough. although we had some good games ie the semi final at Wembley.

It's clearly beneficial to the team.

I get the idea that it could all go a bit David Brent but I think this motivational stuff works in the right environment.

When it's empty is when it's dished up by time-servers, arse-kissers, or hypocrites tarting up, say, exploitative tele-sales as though it's life's glorious purpose.

I don't see the harm in so long as, like you say, it's in the right environment. Nothing worse in my work experience than being made to sit through all that stuff by a manager who then continues to be a complete twat afterwards. Can't see that being the case here though.

Well it's a lot more sensible than somersaults, knowing our lot half of them would be out injured for the rest of the season.......

He can have the team singing Kum-by-ya on the dressing room floor before every match if he gets us out of this league :)
Leicester City fans sung this tune a few seasons ago for one of their players, Lloyd Dyer (now at Watford?) which I thought was quite original:
Lloyd Dyer, My Lloyd, Lloyd Dyer
Oh Lloyd, Lloyd Dyer

I think we're goose and ducked

I thought it was a thread about Vassilios Borbokis until I saw the geese and then discounted Greece.

It's weird that of all the misspelled player names this is the one that someone got right.

I knew Greek lessons at school would come in for something apart from ordering a kebab. ;)

The kebab shop owners near me are either of Pakistani or Punjabi extraction. Fuck all use going into one of their shops and asking for a γυροσκόπιο με σάλτσα τσίλι.

What's wrong with all day breakfasts!?? Fucking kebabs???? Heathens!!
That said, don't mind one as a chaser to 10 pints every now n then.
