Just posting this to add what people's views on billy are. In my opinion he is one of our best players from what I've seen and proven to be a decent goal scorer along with che but today many people around me were slaging him of for every little mistake he makes. I don't understand?

I was one of the ones that thought he was a bad buy. I am also the first to say I was wrong.
I think he works hard and looks a good player, he still misses a fair few sitters though. It's a real shame the manager hasn't got the balls to play him and Matty as a striking pair as I think they would rip defences to pieces and cause them no end of problems.

I am only able to listen on radio for the most part but what strikes me is the amount of times his name is mentioned in our attacking build up play. From highlights he seems to be very hard working with the ability to work a bit of skill (i.e. The wonderful ball for Adams' second goal the other week) and an eye for goal that was missing in his previous periods with us. One of few bright points in a so far underwhelming season. As someone points out above, this is not where our problems lie

He looks a bit overweight to me.

He runs like he's got a pair of breasts.

Yes of course you think that , this is your latest picture isn't it?...

He has dragged the rest of this team by the scruff of their necks at times this season. Apart from missing a couple of sitters he hasn't put a foot wrong for me. 7 goals and a good few assists so far aint too shabby.

Always grafting; passion and desire; he's our talisman; he's a Blade and he will be one of the league's top scorers.

The only real downside is his lack of pace if he were taller and could head the ball it might not be an issue but a bloke his size needs pace, oh and please Adkins give the penalty kicks to Baxter.

Disregarding everything else, he's one of only 2 or 3 who actually look like we care when we lose.

If we had 11 who cared like we used too we might not keep getting turned over at home.

If he had any of the above he'd not be playing for us!

Oh oh oh look at me, only way I can get anyone to reply to me is to post crap like this and pretend to leave thinking everyone would beg me to stay.

Thought wrong jog on pork

Amen to that mate.

Sharp should get twenty goals this season, if he stays free from injury. Despite lacking pace, he is a good striker, with a strong work ethic and plays as though he cares for this club.

I too think that he is more effective when playing with Sammon alongside him upfront.

If we had a full team of players with the quality, passion, work rate and will to win of Sharp, we would probably be in the automatic spots by now.

Sammon is not the answer.

There. I have said it.

I am as sure as sure can be that if pushed, Sharp would tell you that he would score and assist more if played alongside Che, McNulty or Done.

UTB

Billy seems to be chasing too many lost causes out wide instead of being in the box
However, you can't question his work rate and commitment to the club
I,for one,am glad he's in the team

So I post one criticism and I'm accused of piggery?

Wouldn't like to see you making up a court jury.

Sharp's form is starting to suffer since Sammon got dropped. We ask a huge amount of him when he plays without a target man partner.

I know Sammon has had the odd shocker but is he worth his place for Billy's goals if not his own?

Excellent point JD. Sammons value to the team and to Sharp is in his ability to unsettle opposing defenders, and in doing so the hope is this will create the type of chances that Sharp can exploit. It's not exactly a complicated approach, but it is a proven one, so anyone looking to criticise Sammon should attempt to understand the respective benefits of this type of pairing.

No such thing as a lost cause. When Matt Done plays as striker how many times does he get applauded for his clse down that he will never win? He us hoping to create a mistake from the oposition , Flynn style against Donny.

Billy is probably one of the best players in this division. He's impressed me since he came back. His attitude and desire were never questionable, but his ability to get goals was, previously.

He now gets goals.

What has surprised me is the overall intelligence of the guy, he's constantly looking to play others in and like Baxter, he sees the intelligent passes. His decision making is excellent and whilst he does get dragged about, this works well with done and Adams in a three as they fill the gaps he makes. Billy's ball to Adams v Donny (I think) which played Adams in perfectly is the real snapshot of why we need him.

As for the Sammon debate. It's more complicated than play him/ don't play him. There are games when Sammon will be extremely effective, physical sides for example. We need a big lad like him. This is where Sammon looks shit though as he plays an entirely selfless game to allow others their chance to shine

Again, up top we don't have any problems... At the back though.... Oh fuck yeah we're shite.
