I reckon the comparisons Adkins made were probably a bit deeper than just that mate.

Stuff like "when you press, press together, akin to how the geese fly side by side." "If one of your teammates is struggling against a certain player, go help him out (i.e. double up on a winger that's having success), similar to how the geese drop down and fly with an injured goose."

Some of it should go without saying but I'd say it's good that Adkins is trying to drill this mentality into them and showing a quirky video certainly shouldn't let them forget the mindset that's needed.

Yes I can see your meaning with that - the difference with even Blades fans, is if we all see things going in the right direction, the fall out will be much less. It's not so much losing, it's now you lose and after a loss, how you react.

Brizzle had that mentality last season - we have to adopt the same. We can if we want to, steam roller this division, this season.

Adkins post match interview was telling - " The players operated the game plan well". Even Copper said, we waited for Swindon's failures.

The signs now are very promising.

I think it is a great bit of sport psychology, and i would imagine it has been given to the players in a structured way and they have spoken about the lessons that could be learned from that video, and how it can be translated in to better performances.

I'm noticing quite a few similarities between Positive Nige and Dave Bassett, and a bit of Neil Warnock as well

Bassett and Warnock, always used to use little motivational tricks. Bassett with the pre-season Christmas parties, army camps and stuff like that. It used to foster team spirits, and Warnock with his trips to Cornwall and Scarborough,,and getting the squad together as a unit. I think this has been missing for quite a while, and it seems to be something that Adkins is developing.

Something else I noticed was the very subtle way that Adkins indicated that Jose Baxter had been given a massive dressing down in the dressing room at Fulham, because if you listen to the interview you can hear the tone of Adkins voice change as he says we have had a discussion about it in the dressing room, but Jose hasn't been doing any talking, he has just been listening.

It's clearly beneficial to the team.

I get the idea that it could all go a bit David Brent but I think this motivational stuff works in the right environment.

When it's empty is when it's dished up by time-servers, arse-kissers, or hypocrites tarting up, say, exploitative tele-sales as though it's life's glorious purpose.

He can have the team singing Kum-by-ya on the dressing room floor before every match if he gets us out of this league :)
 
Trouble is when geese are flying they only have one up front, we are better with two:)
 
I would've paid a literal shit tonne of cash to be present in that room while the video was shown to a set of 20-odd year old lads...

If they managed to keep a straight face, they are more in fear of their manager than I am.

Found a vid of them training...

I'm a big advocate of this sort of coaching as it uses a real life example to try and inspire people.

The beauty of it (and I'm sure Adkins knew it) was that a bunch of young lads would have been smirking at it initially and probably taking the piss but that bonds the team and gets a bit of team spirit going at the very least.

Whether they admit it or not they clearly bought into it because their shape as a team Saturday was superb and they all played for one another.

Agreed.

Though as posted earlier it has to be done on a context in which everyone buys into the common purpose. In exploitative telesales it might, rightly, elicit a different reaction.

It's not an either/or though. You can laugh at the video *and* get the point. In fact it probably helps. I think the team performance and the goal celebration show that.

Again if the video is shown by some po-faced self-important guru then it, or more correctly he, deserves all sorts of derision.

Used the right way it's a simple, readily understood, analogy of a simple but important (in this context) message.

You can spend days watching Powerpoints of teamwork presented at great expense by incompetent grinning halfwits, or watch a 2 minute clip which gets the same point across and much more effectively.
