Hi all,

I’m wondering if you can help me with a project I’m thinking of undertaking. I am, amongst other things, a photographer, and I want to combine one passion with another - the Mighty Blades.

Over the coming season I want to do a series of photos about Blades fans’ matchday experiences. It strikes me that every fan, every family has their own experience of going to watch live football - the pre-match routines, the food, the drink, the friends, the characters you meet every game, night matches, day matches, the good, the bad and the ugly; the joy/relief of a win, the depression following a defeat.

I would love to hear your stories of what your matchday routines are and what makes you keep going back to BDTBL (it can’t always be the quality of football on show, let’s be honest). But this routine, these experiences are all part of what makes live sport so much better than watching it on the TV.

I only know my experience, which involves, amongst other things, walking to the ground meeting my Uncle at Munchies (Saturday match) or on London Road (night match), battling the crowds, the odd cheeky flutter. But every fan has a different experience, and that’s what I want to capture.

Not really sure what the end goal of this project is, but at the very least I’ll plan to put the pics I take online for everyone to see. I might approach the club to see if I could take some pics of fans in the ground, but that may be a bit further down the line.

So, in short, do you think this is a good idea? And more importantly, could you let me know your stories? You’re welcome to reply to this thread, or if you’d prefer to email me, I can be contacted at [email protected]

Thanks in advance,

UTB

Kinda like what we try and do every season? :)

Will

If I'm honest, it's the quality of the football that keeps me going back to BDTBL.

I'd like to but I've checked and, to be honest, I'm a little over exposed.

You have to understand that I have an image to maintain - so please don't put me in the frame for this one.

Seems like the start of a really good idea Will, though would be interested in the "end goal" before you start..

More than happy for you to join me in looking at the brake lights though the roadworks on the M1 northbound...

Cheers Hillmorton - the end goal would a collection of photos, hopefully depicting fans' experiences of going to watch the Blades at Bramall Lane. What I'm unsure of is in what form the pics would be displayed (ie online, printed, on display somewhere etc)

Sounds interesting, let me know if it gets going and I am sure HB Jnr and I will try to help.

The goal montage on here from last season, the winning goal, Murphy's at Donny, I though was very good ..... goal and montage

The Goal was repeated from several positions behind the goal, different reactions, those in line with the shot moving before others

A bit different from the B&W videos of the Alan Woodward goals, time moves on

To document game(s) at Bramall Lane by Photos or Videos, I think is a brilliant idea, no reason why away games couldn't be included as well

I am sure Foxy will testify to the hidden labour required to get all this presented in some tidy fashion

I imagine you will need to get yourself ready to be inundated with photos ..................... :)

So, where do we send / upload them ??

My idea was that I'd take new pictures throughout the season and hopefully by the end of May I'd have 40-50 images. I'm happy to put the hours in, but I would like to know people's stories, their routines, their superstitions.

For example, if someone has a lucky hat which they've worn to every match since 1977, I'd like to photograph them wearing it. If a group of friends meet in a pub for four pints before every game, I'd like to photograph it. If you have a lucky programme seller which you always use, I want to photograph you buying a programme. Is there a particular view of Bramall Lane which gets the pulse racing when you see it?

This is very much a long-term project, but I'd like to begin in earnest next month.

If only we had a "Media" section or forum which allowed the upload, tagging etc of media content from multiple sources for display, embedding and re-use :) - http://www.s24su.com/forum/index.php?media/

Or a website that is more than open and actively requests user submitted content and has various ways to present it - http://www.s24su.com/

Or a social media presence that creates its own and re-shares others media content - http://twitter.com/s24su , https://instagram.com/s24su , https://www.flickr.com/groups/s24su/ , http://flickr.com/s24su , http://vimeo.com/s24su etc etc

Or a now discontinued MMS Blog from back in the days before proper smartphones....

Nah, I've no ideas on how it could be achieved :D

In all seriousness though, we've been looking to try and get people involved in this sort of stuff for years and have the perfect platform, contributor and reader base already here - just needs a bit of interest and people to stick at it.

Sounds great. Look forward to seeing the results.

I had some decent photos under the flag and with all the flares going off at the forest cup game couple of years back.
