Remember that Mansfield game it kicked off all over their town centre that day.
A name that springs to mind that day is Len Degoye
I don’t remember much about the game, other than a general sense of excitement or panic when the ball came towards the end where we were standing (depending on whether we were defending or attacking that end). After the match we had to walk along a walled track behind one side of the ground, and all manner of stuff was being thrown over this wall by people we couldn’t see. My lad had just started going to home games, and it made me realise there was no way I wanted to risk going to away games with him. Ironically, he now misses very few away games…

Not quite the same but I remember a 5-4 game against Brighton at home in the Bassett era. I think we were 4-1 down at 1 point. John Francis was on fire that day.

We won 4-3. I had decided to stop watching us after finding out from the Pink Final in Manchester (I was playing in a 6 a side tournament) that we got relegation to the 4th.

In July I started a relationship with a woman from York. I was staying at her house in York that October weekend in York and I then decided to go to watch us play in the 4th division fixture at Bootham Crescent.

Bob Hatton opened the scoring (the late Cooperman ran on the pitch to congratulate him) but York fought back and were leading 2-1. Keith Edwards levelled the scores but then York led again. In the dying minutes Mike Trusson scored two superb headers!
I remember that match for all the blades wearing womens clothes obtained from a charity shop I believe

Granddaughter first game. That Newcastle home fixture. Get them into low expectation vibe asap.
Hope she survived. I was traumatised by having son-in-law (Newcastle fan) at the Lane that day. He was not impressed with my recollections of United’s 3-1 win at Newcastle in the 6th round of the Cup in 1961…

Don’t blame you not taking him to away matches in those days used to get a bit hectic

This occurred to me last night after I'd got home. The only time I've been to Field Mill was the game in 1979.
I remember the likes of de Goey, Bourne and Butlin in the "Embassy number ten" kit and it kicking off big time outside afterwards.
It's ironic that Mansfield did us by the same score yesterday.

Not wishing to correct you, but my understanding is that your son started attending matches in August 1980, a year after the Mansfield game in 1979!!

But he was getting interested in the idea of going (going to Reserve matches, etc)🤣

No it was 1-1 draw in the 1st round second leg in middle of September. We beat them 1-0 in the home leg
Memory a bit foggy now Silent Blade , I only missed 2 games that season ( Northampton & Hereford away ) which wasn’t bad for a 14 yr old funding his football by multiple paper rounds , I even went to a Radio Aire challenge match between us & Bradford after the season had finished 😀
