93 goals in over 400 career games.....hardly plorific

I'm sure Bristol City fans thought the same when they signed Aaron Wilbraham on a free with a record of 92 goals in 434 game.... but I'm sure their fans wasn't complaining about the 17 goals he provided them last term.

Williams proved last season with the right players around him he will score goals.

Not disputing that, just stating that his record isn't plorific, which it aint!

Are there any tactics that make the most of being fat and unfit?

Great news if there are. I can see a career change in the coming months . . . . . .
A like from me. Funniest post on the forum in ages!!
I'll take the actual new signing though if it's all the same.

There's a thread with all the goals from last season. Our opening four games were as follows.

Bristol City L 1-2 (Higdon Scored)
Mansfield W 2-1 (Higdon assisted McNulty)
Coventry L 0-1.... not in video obviously
Peterboro W 2-1 (Higdon assisted Davies)

The style of play didn't suit him under Clough.

He only played 20 times. 12 starts and scored 5 goals. A goal every 4 games or every 2.4 starts.

A full season and strike partner with the right service and we have a good League 1 striker already on the books.

I agree with you there in a strange way, don't get me wrong watching Higdon play up front on his own at times has been painful this season BUT he isn't a lone striker.

If Parkinson is to be employed I think him and Hidgon would be the perfect match.

For me he needs a foil (McNulty, Done, Murphy) up close to him. He also needs balls delivered in and around the 6yard box/penalty spot. The style we play(played?) wasn't a good fit for Higdon and as you say, it was frustrating.

Michael Higdon gets tired running a bath. No way is he a first choice striker for a club hoping to get promoted.

Higdons contribution last season was on par with Davies, I didn't see him getting much flak though.

Ben?

If so, true, although I suspect Davies played fewer games. Moreover, Davies has been identified as being too unfit and no longer able to meet the required standards. Therefore he's out of the club.

If you mean Stephen, he's clearly a better player, even if he didn't score enough goals.

Chalk and cheese from where I sit, not bashing Higdon and never agreed with people booing him or getting on his back, but Stephen Davies showed how a big strong lad should play within the current SUFC set up.

Stephen Davies looked good in patches but I genuinely think that played in the right system Higdon would find the net more than Davies. Higdon really needs to get fit this pre season. You'd think he'd have the motivation now, with a new manager to prove himself too etc so o guess we'll see....

If he gets fit for a full 90 minutes he could be good mate. The best display I ever saw from Higdon was away at Preston in the cup, when he played up front with Diego De Girolamo. I am not sure what had put him in such a mood, but he was confident, aggressive, almost nasty, and knocked the Preston defenders about like rag dolls at times, which is what I wanted from him all season.

I used to go to loads of Blades games with him in the 80s.
We go out drinking now and then.

I hope we can resurrect this deal once a new manager has been appointed. These are exactly the type of players we need to get us out of this division.

I'm assuming that this season we will renege on our agreement with the FA to:

a) not play a striker before the end of January, and
b) not mark opposition players who are either on the wing or in our penalty area

And in return we will get qualified referees reffing our games !!

c) Not let Fleetwood scare us to death when they visit Sheffield?
