My biggest worry is MKD at Wembley, would much prefer to beat them over two legs.

My second biggest fear is Preston over two legs, would much prefer to beat them at Wembley.

My third biggest fear is Chesterfield over two legs, would hope we could beat them at Wembley. If we were to lose to them in either it would be a nightmare, even though I have a soft spot for them.

My first choice would be Swindon at Wembley.

Should we be focused on 5th? Who knows?

It's currently my most thought about topic too!

I'm the other way re MK Dons though. I'd rather play them in a one off than over two legs. They're a better side than us and would have us over two legs like Spurs did. Also remember the last time we took a large expectant crowd down there. It was terrible - they ran out of beer!

This playoff campaign already has an increasingly similar feeling as to when we lost out to Yeovil.
I had a future-dream last night. I completely forgot about and missed the final only to find out about our 1-0 loss via a Wednesdayite's YouTube video depicting our latest and all previous "bottle-jobs". I woke up this morning feeling fucking awful. I hadn't really thought about it from that perspective until now and I'm absolutely terrified.

Looks like you're the scapegoat then Tone
It's all going to be your fecking fault

;)

Playing Chesterfield at Wembley and losing would be so hard to take. They would have no pressure in such a game in anyway shape or form. Losing to anyone else, the "oh well" feeling would come in to play.Pain dulled by our previous experiences. I would obviously celebrate if we won but I want a win that has built up over a period of time so we have confidence going forward instead of that "I wonder if we'll cope" emotion that seems to be around all of us.

Shows how gullible people are

seize the day , the future hasnt happened yet , there is no way anyone knows how players will perform
got to play like we did first b half v hull or the whole game v southampton

why just recall the negatives , wednesday fans have some of our fans believing their hopes and dreams for us ,
we listen to them on radio and are that gullable some of our fans believe their shit and the bollocks brian the blade spouts
if theres a negative vibe it coming from one place alone , our fans who are gullible enough to take it all in

This might be partly an age thing, but I've decided not to worry about who we play. I wasn't even going to go on Sunday, but now I am, nor on Thursday, but now I am.

I'm going to accept whatever happens and remember it's only two (or possibly three) games of football and in the grand scheme of things, such as a Nepalese earthquake, unimportant.

No punchline, I mean it :-)

Not sure I would be in that much of a celebratory mood if we managed to win the final, because:

  • It would be our 5th time in such circumstances so it would be more of a relief than a jumping up and down in ecstasy moment

  • It's not the Championship Play Off where the prize is immense

  • It's only the fecking Division 3 play offs, FFS

  • I very much doubt we will storm to a victory, banging in a shed full of goals, more likely to scrape home by the odd goal, grimly clinging on at the end as we sit deeper and invite the pressure on - all adding to a sense of relief over anything else.
Haven't decided if I can stomach yet another trip to Wembley just to feel, once again, that the post match ruby was the absolute highlight of my day :(

Nah, I think you'll find that if you bang your head against a brick wall repeatedly it will tend to bleed and it might get to the point of being somewhat unpleasant.
Then every time you are invited to bang your head against a wall (and you have to pay for the privilege of doing so) - there's a strange reticence about the prospect, lurking somewhere in your mind.
It's a natural conditioning phenomenon to repeated negative stimulus - gullibility does not come into it - except in the payment for the privilege of banging your head against the wall. AGAIN!

Id rather play Swindon than the other 2, so I'd rather be 5th.

They've all beaten us in the league or Cup this season, they've all had better league campaigns than us, but Swindon aren't as good as the other two and they are in indifferent form.

Hopefully Chesterfield can somehow take care of the other semi finalist. I would fancy our chances against them much more than PNE/MK Dons.

well swansea fans banged their heads for years couldnt see ever getting past cardiff , or getting out from the lower divisions and having a shit ground

but things change , weve been here before weve been 2 divisions behind the pigs

we have a great chance now to close the gap

if we are positive , if we polish our turd like wednesday fans polish theirs

yes we arent the finished article , but can we get up ,,,HELL YEAH

whats to fear mk dons at home was daylight robbery , they parked the bus and mugged us with a late goal , they got away with it , but wont do every time , If they come in the 1st leg and park the bus we just need to get 1 then plug away while they hurriedly try and change tactics

Considering that these nasty teams 'park the bus' against us (this being one of NCs perennial excuses), the thought of United 'getting 1 then plug away' defies any evidence seen so far this season. Still, you've written part of NC's post-match interview for him.

So we are in the play offs how

Explain how if we are the most negative side in league how we amassed more points than 19 other clubs

We have got to 70 points in your eyes by holding back constantly then

so we won at bristol city rochdale ,and beat preston and swindon in the league by being utterly negative

well imagine what we can achieve if we go for it then

In your quest to reference every other football club in the known universe to illustrate some point or other (as an aside - things that happened to us are irrelevent but things that happen to other clubs are??) I'm rather surprised you haven't played your Tranmere Rovers card yet.

On topic, I've never felt less inspired and motivated going into a play off campaign and this is not based upon historical evidence but upon what my eyes have told me. 50/50 about gong Sunday, wont be at play off game and an afternoon in Leeds watching it on telly is at the moment more appealing than another trip to NW London. If we are to go up, we're going to have to be bloody lucky and do you know what, there's no-one deserves a piece of that more than us.

I think I'm going to follow the lead of our Man in Spain. The less I see, the less depressed I'll be and I can just hope.

I understand why you think this but I actually think we are in better shape than 2013. That team had no chance. This team has a bit of a chance.

Difference is, I thought all the other contenders then were equally crap, this time, there's a pretty good one in the mix, be it MKD or PNE. I know pepole'll come flying out of the blocks citing us in 2102 if it ends up being PNE, but we really only fell at the finish due to Ched.

I'm sure that the FG's will have noted there's not a single voice suggesting anything other than a win against Swindon over too legs is worth considering too :(

Don't see any parallel between us and Swansea

Championship Play off finals 1 1 0
Championship Semis only competed once and won the final
League 1 Play Off Finals 1 0 1 (lost on pens after 2-2 FT scoreline)
League 1 Play semis 1993 didn't make the final
League 2 Play Off Finals 2 1 1
League 1 Play semis 1999 didn't make the final

So out of 6 play off campaigns they have won twice, been runner up twice and not got past the semis twice
Hardly a failure of any magnitude is it and hardly a case of banging one's head against a brick wall?
Also not forgetting that when they went up from the Championship they banged in 4 goals at Wembley
And they have only failed to score in one final and that was a League 2 affair in 1997

theres 92 clubs
they all have fans
none as negative as ours

I could use any club in the world as an analogy but I doubt if Id find one who ring up and ask for the manager to be sacked on getting to a play off

I cant use some of our fans as they have a committed agenda of being as negative as can be allowed
We could earn money if we have our fans give seminars in negativity,

try prestons record

but again I say it , thats gone , its history
ithe only use our play off record is is for negative twats to use it to beat us with

so your theory is because weve lost in 4 finals we will as a club never ever ever win one
tell me why do you come

theres obviously no future in it

whats the point if we go up if we cant win a championship one eh , lets not bother eh

or perhaps just perhaps we might buck a trend

tell me how many times in football are records broken , runs ended teams like bournemouth reaching new heights , obviously not in some blades fans worlds

No real fears with any of em...MK and Preston should rightly be favourites because of their campaigns and goals in the team..I suspect we'll be the club none of em want to play because of our style of play in knock out competitions.

You make the error of assuming that everyone who makes any descenting comment is calling for Clough's head - not the case
It is unarguable that for the size of this club we are the most under performing participant in the English professional league given what we haven't won since 1925 and how many failures we have had when glory is in our sights.
Many other fans are equally, if not more negative than ours - you should hear some of the Spurs lot when they lose one or two.
Villa fans calling for Lambert's head week in week out - and they are still in the Prem - and have won summat in the last 35 years (worth winning)

Do you think I havent witnessed the disappointment

yes I saw us snatch relegation from safety , saw us miss a late penalty to go to div 4saw ched get sent down that ruined us for 2 years

but and heres the rub

we are 3 games from achieving a goal

weve got up by the skin of our teeth before too , ,

without belief and hope though , no point turning up

why follow football ,,,, if I thought all I could do week in week out is only see what could go wrong

Id commit suicide, never mind give up being a fan

Life is looking for the joy in things , making the most of the chances we get

not pouring scorn and being negative at every single opportunity

I pray that some people get over being professional miserable bastards and see the sun and hear the birds instead of whatever black outlook they have
