from Clayx on BM:

"It's happening, got told last night Preston have come in but the player has sacked it off, he wants to come to the blades, we have the equal biggest bid on the table anyways. The players wages package is nearly there, no brainer really being as he's getting a 300% pay rise as basic!

The deal for the higgotomus to go the other way is a way off being completed, however it's looking likely that will be a "loan with a view" for the rest of the season."

What on earth leads you to think it was a 'crappy little bid'? We've just shelled out 1.5 million for Brayford and that should show that we're serious about meeting player's valuation (which can be determined by us as much as the selling club).

Oh, and it's not us that alert clubs to a player's availability, that's very much an agent's remit.

The only criticism I would have is if we meet the valuation on Monday and could have done so today.
I didn't say we had with Doyle, but we have in the past. Most recently with GMS, we give chesterfield their asking price and I'm very confident we'd get him.
Let's also be fair, nobody else was in for brayford, especially at that price.

What if Chesterfield's asking price is 2million? Why should we give them what they're asking and not negotiate?

I think people are getting hung up on the GMS bid. We tested the water given him being on a free in the summer. Celtic were no doubt in for him at that point and we thought that Dundee would accept anything given that he was most likely going for nowt.

Don't need Doyle or COG, just play 4-4-2 and Che/McNulty/Higdon

Far from a "done deal" as some were suggesting then......

Come on. It's Alan Biggs. He'll probably sign this afternoon.

If I were Chesterfield's manager I wouldn't sell him at any price. They are in with a good shout of getting into the play offs after not escaping from the lower two divisions for over 60 years. Selling the man whose goals have got them into this position would be (a) nuts and (b) not forgiven by Chesterfield's fans. Selling Doyle would probably lop 2/3000 off their next home attendance figure.

In the end it's up to Paul Cook and the man who holds the purse strings but I expect the lad to remain wearing a blue shirt till summer.

To put it another way,if it were us, we'd sell him.

I had forgotten how long it's been since Chesterfield were in the second tier. I think they are the team who's gone longest without getting back up there after being relegated (considering teams currently in the league)

Aye. Even Mansfield managed it for one season, in 1977/8. Rotherham and Barnsley have spent many a year in the second tier, Colchester, Southend, Wrexham, Bury and Tranmere all managed it but for Chesterfield the second tier is as elusive as European football has been for the Blades.

Spireites with long memories will recall transfer deadline day in 1974, when the team was 4th in Division Three. Hoping for a promotion-clinching signing they were bitterly disappointed when they bought no-one but sold their star man, goalkeeper Jim Brown, to United. They finished fifth.

The Manager is not bank rolling the club, it's always the Chairman who has final say.

SSN reporting us, Preston and New York in MLS are all chasing him.

Interesting. Especially as Preston are also supposed to be interested in a different striker that Clough has been keen on in the past ;)

Let's wait and see if owt develops !

UTB

Paul Cook on FH tonight (aka The Wednesday Takeover Show) seemed to very much nudge ED in our direction. Dunno if it's on Audioboom but he said he had been to the Spurs match, very impressed, if ED goes to the Blades it will be a good move or words very much to that effect.

Just seen on Twitter we have lodged bids on Stephen Davis from Blackpool, Eoin doyle and Tom Bradshaw of Walsall. Not sure on Davis myself, however the other two would be terrific!

Steve D was having a great season under Nigel before he had his freak accident.

A natural goal scorer, good striker from distance and good at heading the ball in the net. Different options to what we have.

Contrary to what people say, he is more unlucky than injury prone. He has had some, but a clash of heads doesn't count as injury prone to me. That means that he is prepared to put his head in where it matters and personally, I dont see that we have many of those players in the squad.

I believe that with our wingers, we could see him score plenty of goals. Murphy, Flynn, JCR, Davies and Brayford can all put the necessary crosses in to see that happen.

I'm very happy with these three.

Nothing beats Brayford. He's the royal flush with diamonds on
Nah mate,Graham is Prem quality,he would get us the goals we've been so badly missing, which is what you need to get out of this league.Someone to unlock the onion bag.

I'm fully with you, however, with john Brayford you're not just signing a full back. He's john Brayford.
:D

I really hope he isn't in that huge percentage of players who are awesome on loan, then not as good next time round.I think some would commit suicide on here:)
