If not wilder, who else????

Can you imagine if West Ham do to us what they are doing to Wrexham the meltdown on here would be unbearable.
The 20 Wilder haters on here would be in a frenzied heaven.
West Ham are quite capable of beating us easily with the squad they have.

It’s the poor home performances and defeats against teams like Norwich that will probably define our season in terms of where we finish in the table.

How about actually interviewing people properly?

How about spending time crafting a list of the most relevant things to ask in an interview, with the input of people who know the conditions of the club intricately?

Forget about predetermined appointments for a moment - have we actually thought about doing this?

If we're going to find a good coach from somewhere who can deal with the workload of management then surely this would be necessary

I thought that's what these owners were planning to do, but instead they couldn't be arsed and just took a random gamble on Sellés and a flawed AI system

The concept that there are 1000s of managers and coaches employed across Europe and there isn’t a single one that could work at Sheffield United is absolutely insane.

The next two seasons need to be spent getting rid of Wilder’s mates and putting actual experienced professionals in place ready for a new manager.

It’s funny that we’re basing this season on copying what Hull did last season without making the one major change that matters.

One for the conspiracy theorists
Rather have Uncle Susan in charge.
Admittedly she knows nothing about football, but it'd be a reyt laugh him talking about putting a boot up the players asses and such like. Seeing their side eyes in interviews and stuff would be so entertaining. Though we'd still lose like most games and be atrocious.

I’m going to be open. I’m a big Wilder fan, I’d never suggest he was the best football manager ever but I know that whilst ever he’s in charge we have a man making decisions with the future of the club in mind. I also know that any team he puts out will give everything, I would happily see him stay for the next 10 years.

I know there’s plenty who would like to see him go, I’m intrigued who those who would see him gone would want to see replace him. Who realistically could do a better job for us? not in this period of uncertainty

I'm certainly not in favour of sacking Wilder. At least at the moment. He is the man for us in our current situation.
I don't think he's the main issue.
The main issue is our current owners.
Look what happened the last time they sacked him!
Look at who They brought in then.
Look at where that left us.
If they sack him now They have shown They have no idea who would be best as a replacement.
They are the ones who have left him in the position of having to sell off our best assets. And leaving him in the position of only bringing in loans and free agents
Wilder has shown he can operate successfully with a decent budget. He has, in the past with us , and at other clubs shown he can operate successfully with limited funds.
Wilder is not the problem.
Should we get a 12 point deduction I can't think of a better man to keep us up.
If we don't get a points deduction, I believe he will at least get us in a play off spot.
Whoever was the owners we would have had to sell
That’s the result of over valuing the short term gain of the loan market . Letting players run down contracts and a very piss poor scouting system

Peck's face and Brooks/Serikis reactions n the "Wilder returns" video says it all. Peck couldn't be happier to have a drinking buddy back, while Brooks and Seriki knew they wouldn't be getting coached for the foreseeable while being chewed out in public at every opportunity.
Wilder greeted Peck like a long-lost son. Certain other players didn't get the same treatment.

I am leaning into the idea that perhaps most of his detractors don't have a high footballing intelligence - that's in no way meant to be disrespectful to anyone either. We all watch and follow the game for different reasons.
Well it certainly comes across as disrespectful.
Can you honestly say that performances so far this season have been acceptable? The experienced players CW has brought in come with severe limitations - none of them seemingly able to last 90 minutes. Formations & tactics have been questionable - we have recruited more DMs but still get run through far too easily.

I really hate this question, for the simple principle that nobody should ever be deemed as irreplaceable. Wilder absolutely is not this either, and acting as if he is is just setting oneself up for a significant fall whenever he does depart.

In any case, I think a serious option would be John Mousinho at Pompey. He got them promoted to, and has kept them in the Championship, on an absolute shoestring. And they play some very nice stuff to boot. He seems the type who wouldn't tolerate bullshit either, which would come in handy with all the nonsense going on with us at present.

You're probably right with 20 !!! But there's a hell of a lot more who wouldn't shed a tear if he went, but whilst he's here will be grudgingly supported .
Do I know or suggest who can replace him ? Not without doing some searching.
(1) needs the ability to work under a tight budget.
(2) needs to have experience in developing good young players and willing to have confidence in them to take the step up.
(3) has the patience to change the way we play steadily selles and slava both tried to change it overnight and it didn't work , hecky at least understood this .
The opportunity next time has to be a DOF and a first team coach.

🥱 apt name. Haters ? There are no haters, there are just people that have a different opinion than you and can see further than your nose on your face regarding playing good football and tactical decisions.
There do seem to be a few who love Wilder no matter what and a few who just plain hate him so I can see the point of the post. The vast majority of us are somewhere in the middle with a range of views. Personally this season I’d prefer to see dire football and be challenging in the top half but only on the understanding that it is more fluent next season. I do disagree that dire football can’t be tactically astute though.

Whoever it is needs to come in and demand/earn respect immediately. Wilder's boyz threw Selles under the bus. Obviously there were a few things in play at the time, but a big part of the failure was that the players didn't respect Selles, didn't listen to him, didn't like the expectations he had, and apart from 45 minutes against Bristol City they didn't put any effort in whatsoever.

Peck's face and Brooks/Serikis reactions n the "Wilder returns" video says it all. Peck couldn't be happier to have a drinking buddy back, while Brooks and Seriki knew they wouldn't be getting coached for the foreseeable while being chewed out in public at every opportunity.
Really? Think Selles did a good job of that himself. One of, if not the worst appointment I can remember including Micky Adams. No wonder players who knew their salt were gobsmacked.

You put a lot of work into that post!

I wasn’t claiming he’s a nice person. But he does seem to be pretty good at coaching a winning side.

Agree about DoF in principle, though also think that throwing a new structure around as some sort of panacea is mind blowingly naive. It has to be part of an ownership and leadership structure that understands how to implement it effectively- does anyone really think we are in that position.

I wouldn't say I'm his most adoring fan, particularly not in his second and third stint, but I don't think you can argue with some of your points - regardless of which side of the fence you currently sit.

Considering the restrictions during the transfer window, again I don't think you can argue that he has done ok, we needed some more experience, Donovan aside, players brought in have a proven track record in the division (and some in the PL). I'm even cautiously optimistic that Ayew can make a valuable contribution this season. I am leaning into the idea that perhaps most of his detractors don't have a high footballing intelligence - that's in no way meant to be disrespectful to anyone either. We all watch and follow the game for different reasons.

Anyway, I digress. With Wilder at the helm I'm confident we won't ever be in real danger of dropping out of the Championship, and probably be in the mix most seasons. This year has just been a 'ripping off the band aid' season. Seems like the owners have decided to just get the financial situation reined in in one swoop. Hopefully means we will have a bit more room to manoeuvre next year. A lot of players out of contract too, I haven't checked who but hopefully a good chance to clear our some of the high earning plodders.
And precisely what footballing intelligence do you profess to have? Are you Fallowfield in disguise and have your Pro License? Or a manager like the late lamented Adkins who was on here taking the name of one of our Goalkeepers.

Successfully with a decent budget

😂😂😂😂

When it happens it needs to be someone who understands the culture of the club. They also need to buy into it. Culture can't be changed overnight.
Not wanting to start a fight, but to me this mindset is exactly the problem. What is the "culture of the club?" For that matter, what is the "culture" of any of the really huge, multiple title-winning clubs across England and even Europe? What is the culture of Man City, Real Madrid, Bayern Munich? It seems like their culture is success, sustained over decades, with a wide range of managers and players playing different styles as the game evolves.

I do feel like this mythical "culture" at SUFC is basically harking back to the 80's/90's. The idea of players being a bunch of lads on an extended stag do. Get the beers in, all lads together, up for a scrap if it happens, working class etc etc etc. I'm not saying that's you, but it does sometimes feel like that's what an element of our fan base think we should be all about. Wilder embodies that. Getting the beers in on the coach (admittedly that then led to the most successful period in the club's recent history) singing songs on a pub table after beating Wednesday and so on.

Football has changed a lot since then, and if we have any ambitions to develop into a premier league club, we need to change. It's not impossible, teams have done it (Brighton, Brentford, Bournemouth have all come from way below us in my lifetime and established themselves as PL clubs) so it can work. We'll never do it if we cling to some nebulous idea of "our culture" and keep insisting that managers and players need to fit into that narrow mindset.

The concept that there are 1000s of managers and coaches employed across Europe and there isn’t a single one that could work at Sheffield United is absolutely insane.

Yes it is. And not one single Wilder supporter believes it.

Of course someone might do better but now isn't the time to gamble. Wilder won't be here forever. His succession should be planned and prepared for.

It has been proven time and again that success elsewhere is no guarantee of success at BL.

Bettis seems to control day to day , he's not a football man and ( I'm guessing here) he relies on wilders guidance to much , modern football needs that one consistent hand at recruitment and academy management, not particularly to dictate playing style but good enough to work with the coach on his list of targets and make suggestions.

Hate is a strong word, why keep awake at night for that. I dislike dire football as we have done over the last few seasons, you may as well settle for sloppy seconds. Why is it likely to be more fluent next season ? It’s been the same stuff even with huge amounts of money thrown at it.
