I’m going to be open. I’m a big Wilder fan, I’d never suggest he was the best football manager ever but I know that whilst ever he’s in charge we have a man making decisions with the future of the club in mind. I also know that any team he puts out will give everything, I would happily see him stay for the next 10 years.

I know there’s plenty who would like to see him go, I’m intrigued who those who would see him gone would want to see replace him. Who realistically could do a better job for us?

I like Wilder too but if we could get a new manager in the shape of Cesc Fabregas then I may reconsider but we can't and he wont so lets just stick with Wilder until the new Billionaire owners come along

maybe Ian Evatt - done good jobs at barrow & bolton

then purely from reading. Robin peter from Ado Den Haag. hes only 39. spent 13 years working in the RB Leipzig academy before moving into senior management. but in 1st full season Ado Den haag. won the the title. with 89pts from 38 games (pro rata 108 from 46) scoring 90 goals winning 29 games

I'm certainly not in favour of sacking Wilder. At least at the moment. He is the man for us in our current situation.
I don't think he's the main issue.
The main issue is our current owners.
Look what happened the last time they sacked him!
Look at who They brought in then.
Look at where that left us.
If they sack him now They have shown They have no idea who would be best as a replacement.
They are the ones who have left him in the position of having to sell off our best assets. And leaving him in the position of only bringing in loans and free agents
Wilder has shown he can operate successfully with a decent budget. He has, in the past with us , and at other clubs shown he can operate successfully with limited funds.
Wilder is not the problem.
Should we get a 12 point deduction I can't think of a better man to keep us up.
If we don't get a points deduction, I believe he will at least get us in a play off spot.

I’d like to think we can aim a bit higher than just making sure the players put in effort.

I wouldn't say I'm his most adoring fan, particularly not in his second and third stint, but I don't think you can argue with some of your points - regardless of which side of the fence you currently sit.

Considering the restrictions during the transfer window, again I don't think you can argue that he has done ok, we needed some more experience, Donovan aside, players brought in have a proven track record in the division (and some in the PL). I'm even cautiously optimistic that Ayew can make a valuable contribution this season. I am leaning into the idea that perhaps most of his detractors don't have a high footballing intelligence - that's in no way meant to be disrespectful to anyone either. We all watch and follow the game for different reasons.

Anyway, I digress. With Wilder at the helm I'm confident we won't ever be in real danger of dropping out of the Championship, and probably be in the mix most seasons. This year has just been a 'ripping off the band aid' season. Seems like the owners have decided to just get the financial situation reined in in one swoop. Hopefully means we will have a bit more room to manoeuvre next year. A lot of players out of contract too, I haven't checked who but hopefully a good chance to clear our some of the high earning plodders.

A wildcard would be Jesper Sorensen, currently head coach at Vancouver Whitecaps, playing exciting footy with players from all over the place, I know it's "only MLS" but coaching skills are transferable. As good a shout as anyone for someone with no EFL experience like Eckhert and Hellberg.

This just illustrates there are no outstanding candidates.

Sacked by Luton after relegating them from the PL and leaving them in free fall to League One.

Went to Wolves and merely continued their relegation trajectory.

I’m between had a decent spell at Boro before he jumped ship.

Cooper was Wilder’s recommendation to replace him. Failed at Leicester and I’m surprised to read he’s lost more than he’s won at Bromby.

Most compelling for me would be Challinor; sustained success climbing up the ladder, very similar trajectory to Wilder to be honest. The Ado Den Haag manager is interesting too.

But any managerial change comes with a risk. I find talk of change premature, especially after the club sold an intrical part of how we play.

I don’t agree with Wilder that we can’t start on this now. They are professionals after all, some may have played the next formation anyway. Many positions are not hugely impacted by the formation; if it’s a back 4 then regardless of what goes on in front, the principles remain the same. It’s mainly the midfield that will be impacted.

For now I’m interested to see how we come out after the international break. It’s almost 3 weeks. Given how long pre-season is, this should be ample time to come out with a new formation.

I agree with djbaldken, I don’t think Wilder is the main issue. I think the problem is the structure of the club that has allowed one manager to establish a fiefdom that permeates into every corner of the club. That’s ok whilst the manager is there, but no manager can stay forever. What happens when they go? The new manager coming in faces an impossible situation.

It seems that Steve Rosen has recognised this and claims to be putting in place a structure that is fit for purpose and will be healthier for the long term future of the club. We’ll see if he does it. I hope he does.

I don’t care if it’s Wilder or anyone else, we have ended up in a position where one person has far too much power to the detriment of the club. That needs to change to give the next manager, whoever and whenever that might be, a fair go at it.

Whoever it is needs to come in and demand/earn respect immediately. Wilder's boyz threw Selles under the bus. Obviously there were a few things in play at the time, but a big part of the failure was that the players didn't respect Selles, didn't listen to him, didn't like the expectations he had, and apart from 45 minutes against Bristol City they didn't put any effort in whatsoever.

Peck's face and Brooks/Serikis reactions n the "Wilder returns" video says it all. Peck couldn't be happier to have a drinking buddy back, while Brooks and Seriki knew they wouldn't be getting coached for the foreseeable while being chewed out in public at every opportunity.
