A player expressing their desire to leave can't be good for the squad, we need to move him on now to the highest bidder. He has been a great servant to this club and we will miss him, but he is replaceable.

Are professional footballlers really that sensitive that their form suffers if one of their teammates says he dreams of playing in the Premier League? I'm sure they all dream of it and it's taken as read they would all leave if the club receives an acceptable offer.

I can't see how Harry thinking out loud will affect any other player.

Just to posit a situation.

Harry goes into the season as number one choice, but his head is possibly (not definitely) elsewhere. This leads to a drop in form where:
a) his defensive partner's morale drops as he's doing more work for a player who can't be arsed, and
b) questions from more loyal or new players who are eager for a chance in the first team

There's no doubt that it could have a negative effect. It's not definite, but in a team chasing promotion, success depends on fine fine margins and minimising risk is everything.

First hint of that and he's back in the U21's. Attitude is a real biggie for Clough and I don't think he'd have any qualms about doing that to Maguire or any other player at the club.

The reality is that Clough manages the team, his priority is to do what's best for SUFC, and if a fee offered isn't one he's happy with then he decides whether to sell or retain said player. Until a satisfactory replacement is found, and /or a fee is offered that satisfies the club's valuation, then Harry's wishes are secondary. It's the life of all club's I'm afraid, agreements are entered into, and just because a player says he wants to leave it doesn't mean he'll get his wish. Be patient son, when Nigel is ready you'll be the first to know.

Scenario 1:- Harry plays like he can't be arsed and makes himself look stupid and crap. Hull and the other teams scouting him start to have doubts about his attitude and mental fortitude. He loses the respect of his manager and colleagues. He loses the admiration of his fans.

Scenario 2:- Harry gives it everything and raises his game in the hope that Hull will stump up United's asking prize and help him achive his "dream" (of sitting on the bench watching Hull v Spora Luxemburg). He retains the respect of his manager and colleagues. He retains the admiration of his fans and leaves with his reputation intact and all our best wishes.

Sounds like he wants to go, let him go and take some decent money for him. He probably will end up playing for England within a year due to the shite they have at centre half

If you are a manger at your place of work and one of your staff members is down and expressing he wants to leave, surely you wouldn't want him in and around your other staff members it makes the morale low naturally.

Yes they are professional footballers who are paid good money to do there jobs but it will still effect club harmony reading stories etc. When Man Utd sold Ronaldo for instance, Man Utd didn't need the money they received, they are one of the richest clubs in the world, they sold him because he expressed a desire to leave and they knew the stories in the papers would effect the club.

His agent must be getting desperate if he's shipping quotes off to SSN.

Exactly no sale means not cut of a transfer fee.

He certainly won't be wanting Harry to end up leaving as a free agent.

IMO,this is where your argument falls down. We have not historically undersold. In reality,we have historically sold when we shouldn't have (in recent history Naughton or Walker, Killa, Ward). The price was about right for the players but the board was too quick to sell and replace them with players who weren't as good.

Many LFC fans think Suerez was 'undersold', Southampton fans think the same for Lallana and Lambert. Who has done the better deal ?
Thats a good point you make and that is what pissed me off the most about us,that we sold our players for whatever price and never replaced them properly, although i do hope and think times are changing at our club, and its about time too.

Management surveys have reckoned that as many as 1 in 4 staff at any one time are wanting to leave. Of those a good few will find alternative employ and leave, but a good few will not find what they want and will just carry on doing a job they don't really want to do, or working for a company/organisation they don't want to work for.

As a manager you are well aware of this fact. But you decide that you don't want them around and so you sack them. Guess what happens next!

We go into Europe..?

Great point about my comment/link to normal employment. In this instance with Maguire I do still believe he should now be moved on IF he has expressed a desire to leave for the right price. I highly doubt Maguire will be there come 9th August the interesting thing will be how much we receive for him and how the money is then spent. If the sale of Maguire allows us to strengthen in 2/3 positions with quality in the long run it's good for the club.

Although we have this 'game changing' investment we are still not in a position where we can reject good offers for our top players while ever we are playing in League One.

Just read some of the statements.
He/his agent is publicly forcing the issue now...will we be able to hold out for £2m??
Get rid soon as.

UTB!

Was always likely he would be going once the new contract talks were aborted, to me it's dispapointing but doesn't change too much. I had us down for a play off spot and an outside chance of Auto next season, maybe this makes it less likely for Auto but we have more than enough to mount a play off challenge

Strange that I heard today that more club were now coming in for Harry.
I think it's just a matter of time now surely although any right minded person would consider £2-3Million a good deal for us.

What's your opinions on Harry moving closer to signing with hull? I personally would be happy to see him go IF we sign both Coady and Brayford instead!

In that drawer with the old coins, dead batteries, a few takeaway menus, some loose screws, assorted manuals for toasters and kettles, some curtain hooks and a Hayes manual for a 1986 Escort!

Is that you Kevin, have we rumbled you?

Sounds like the fee we got for Quinny.

My Nottingham Forest supporting colleague understands they have put in a bid for him................ more his level to me, and he will get a game.

Harry Maguire has admitted that it would be a "dream" move to sign for the seaside (lol) club in an interview Harry was asked the reasons behind this. "Well back in April Hull showed me up to for exactly what i am a slow, average 3rd tier defender and i believe a move to Hull must show that they have forgot how bad i was that day." When asked about interest from Wolves Harry also admitted he was shite when Wolves visited Bramall lane but said " i,ve had a word with KMac and he's manage to convince them its a one off ". In the final part of his interview Harry admitted he would move to the Championship club if needs be as it would mean he'd get to play against his boyhood club "Shef&$£@ld Wedne***ay" which would also be a "dream".

I am a big believer in letting player go who want to leave i don't think they give you 100%.

Harry was quite good "when Wolves visited Bramall lane". From what I remember anyway.
