As the article says, Maguire is one of the best defensive prospects in the country. Look it as an outsider would.
He's made well over 100 league appearances before he's 21.
He's been named in the Under 21 squad ahead of young defenders already with Premiership/Championship clubs.
Twice running, he's been voted into the PFA League One team of the year by his fellow professionals.
If he'd made his name playing for Southampton or Crewe, Blades fans wouldn't be scoffing at a £4-5M valuation.

Barnsley sold John Stones to Everton for £3M. We sold Walker for up to £4M and Naughton for up to £6M.
So on that basis, the valuation seems to be about the going rate.
It's still a drop in the ocean anyway for clubs like Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal.
Big clubs like that will snap up any promising talent in the hope that just a handful of them will eventually make the grade.
Quite often, they'll sign them up just to make sure that their rivals don't.

Let's not be fooled by a short-term dip in form into thinking that Maguire isn't a hot prospect.
At just 20, he does at least have the potential to be the next Steve Bruce, Tony Adams or John Terry.
That's what the big clubs will be looking at, not the odd misplaced pass or tackle.

He can't be the next John Terry because he's not an obnoxious cockney git!

if he is the next John Terry, we should be telling Chelsea to take a hike at £5 mill, the kid is on a long term contract, hopefully without any soft clauses in it.

I'm not ITK however a member of my family had lunch with Kevin McCabe this weekend.

According to McCabe, Harry has turned down our contract offer. I don't know whether this means we'll go back with an approved offer, or if this means Maguire will be inevitably sold now. I'll try and dig for some more info.

Why would Kevin McCabe randomly tell someone this information over lunch which could be price sensitive(i.e. effect how much we get for him)and would probably appear on a public forum especially as the club appears to have had a 'no comment' policy on transfers. ?

Although I can't post a link, (ages ago) this is not unheard of with KM

He's dropped stuff out before when talking to fans

PS, if the op is correct that Harry has turned down a contract offer, I'm pretty certain any potential suitors will know about it regardless. His agent will see to that

Jim said on twitter there is nothing new to share on Harry.

That was 3 hours ago.

When I sent an email to Mcabe ( a very polite one I might add) complaining about Bryan Robsons managerial skills, he called me and blurted out that we were trying to sign Lee Cattermole whe there had not been any media reports on it. As said above, he does have form for discussing these kind of things with fans.

I highly doubt he will have rejected the offer this early in the transfer window. If he's done anything he will have not signed it to leave his options open and hold out for higher wages.

I'm not fussed if people dismiss this info as made up speculation or not. I'm typically skeptical of threads like this myself.

What I will say is that the source of my information is a family member. He was out with McCabe who was approached by a Blades fan in the restaurant.

McCabe said Maguire has turned down United's contract offer but wouldn't elaborate. McCabe confirmed that Ched Evans is coming back and that he's visited him in prison. And Brandy will be on his way as soon as Clough receives a decent offer.

None of the above are startling revelations but I believe them given my source.

Heard fat lump Evans from toytown on radio pig the other night and for once he made sense. He said contracts were on the table for some players, If they don't want to be there they would be shown the door, Same goes for Harry if he doesn't want to be here then thanks for what you have done for us and good luck, He isn't the bee all and end all.

It's only 1st June! I think our transfer activity has begun so early this year that we're shitting ourselves about the Harry situation as if there's only a couple of weeks until transfer deadline day and we'll lose him at the last minute....

This is beginning to get all 'Fabregas-y'

Yeh It was to my Dad and I that he had a chinwag to at Stevenage station back in December. Was very honest about outgoings, and said a little bit about players in.
2 things I will remember - firstly, he gave me a slap on the head when I was cheeky. Secondly, he was in standard class.

I'll be gutted if Harry goes, as an aside. That Rotherham game, the pick of them in recent memory. Captain, and just brilliant. Made Revell look like Bellamy ;)

If people don't want to hear something they will shoot you down sometimes on here, but all you can go on is what you have been told.

McCabe's Radio Sheffield phone in after relegation from Championship was my personal favourite, 'Roberto Di Matteo is not out of our budget' then we ended up with Danny Wilson............

Di Matteo went on to win the FA Cup and Champions League, we went on to throw away promotion and lose in the play offs (again). From this date I have always taken what McCabe says with a pinch of salt.

...if only McCabe had forked out for the Whopper instead of a Happy Meal!

It wasn't the money, it was his liking for working part time and spending the rest on the golf course that would have been this issue.
