Shittest Blades Sides Ever

So you would consider this lot worse than a side that conceded 4 at home to Shrewsbury and 3 at home to Bury?,
That side was pathetic as was the Martin Peters shambles.

This lot are having a right go at it though

Seeing as the Adkins side finished 11th in league 1, they are comfortably worse than this team. Still time to equal or better it though!

No. They are worse because they SHOULD be better given their supposed standards and incentives.

This is not a difficult concept.

With all respect, it is a difficult concept. You’re positioning the case as though there can be two measurable values:

1. Expected achievement.
2. Actual achievement.

…with ‘worst’ being the team with the greatest negative magnitude of difference between the two.

The second measure can easily be measured by league position. Presumably the first has to measured by subjective opinion? Or were you thinking of an objective measure like a previous league position? Maybe the end of the previous season? If so, your measure would need to be adjusted based on the transfers in and out, available budget and other constrictions. How would you quantify those?

Out of interest, would your definition of ‘best’ be the reverse of this? That would probably make Bob Booker our best ever player.

That made me think what our biggest drop in league positions in consecutive seasons was, as that gives some measure of underperforming expectations. Theres been 7 seasons where we've dropped 12 or more places.

1974-76 16 places (6th to 22nd)
1897-99 15 places (1st to16th)
2009-11 15 places (8th to 23rd)
1978-80 14 places (20th D2 to 12th D3)
1906-08 13 places (4th to 17th)
1932-34 12 places (10th to 22nd)
1986-88 12 places (9th to 21st)

Interestingly, post relegation we've never finished below halfway the following season.

34-5 11th
49-50 3rd
56-7 7th
68-9 9th
76-77 11th
79-80 12th
81-2 1st
88-9 2nd
94-5 8th
07-08 9th
11-12 3rd
21-22 5th
24-25 3rd

In terms of expectations to reality, the second Clough season was awful. Scraping late wins to paper the cracks, boring football and Clough being a sarcastic mardy arse and falling out with everyone. Remember Andy butler? Digging out McNulty publicly every week?? Losing at home to Crewe and Fleetwood?? Losing away to an awful just relegated Yeovil team and Clough almost being smug about it in light of the fans reaction? A truly awful season.

If that’s your criteria then it’s without doubt the Robson era.
He had a really awful knack of pulling out a result or two just as it looked like he might be justifiably sacked. Very frustrating times but they weren't as scary as the situation we have right now.

Not sure about worst team but I do love to think of my worst xi, only since 2003/4 so may be missing some older ones I'm sure, and a new entry just because of how much I detest him!

Steve Simonsen

Darryl Westlake - Mark McGuinness - Nyron Nosworthy - Marcus Williams

Febian Brandy - Dean Hammond - Jonny Ertl - Martyn Woolford

Connor Sammon - Jon Forte

Honourable mentions for John Cofie, Adam Davies, Tony McMahon, Neill Collins, Michael Doyle (personal vendetta), Joe Mattock, Simon Lappin, Aidy White, Jordan Stewart, Andy Taylor - god we've had some shit left backs haven't we

Ivo Grbic walks into that team.

I'm pleased that someone has saved me making that argument.

It's the worst team because we expected so much more, but it's actually better than a dozen or so teams in the past when expectations were lower?

I can't see any argument there to support the theory that it's our worst team ever.

I am experiencing PTSD symptoms reading this

For me it’s:
1:adkins
2:adams
3:the current lot

Make no bones about it, this side is getting relegated. The season already has that stench of morbid inevitability about it & now coopers out. Added to the fact that this squad is just so….. unlikeable. I’m struggling to feel like I can get behind them. Heartless, gutless, unfit & mentally weak.

id swap McGuinness for Mceveley & Simonsen for Mark Bunn

George Long was too young, but I had the least confident in him in goal.

Mceveley was absolute shite, that pathetic cowardly tackle on that kid at Coventry. I hated him.

League 1 was just a shit time. I used to get free tickets from a sponsor and seldom went.

Surely the award goes to our side from the last PL season? Either that or the 10/11 relegation side for me (I've watched some 01/02). On paper obviously our PL side wasn't as bad, but going by performance only it has to be that.
