We had as many as 7 refereeing decisions go against us today. Not many teams can swim against that sort of tide.

But parking the micro view I feel something will click soon and we’ll go on a run.

Where that will lead us I’m not going to predict something outlandish but plenty of teams near the top are failing to stride away; 6 draws tonight and we lost after an atrociously corrupt referee performance against a parachute team.

The line up is edging in the right direction in my view.

They need more time on the training ground but I do feel three at the back works better for this group. Cohesion and consistent selection will reduce individual errors.

Not sure he’s fully a wing back but Ogbene is having an impact each game.

O’Hare and Hamer together will grow in confidence and once Ings is fit, him and Campbell will be two clinical options.

Main driver for me though will be in the treatment room. If we can get Tom Davies and Arblaster together for a sustained period I think we’ll show ourselves to be one of the best teams in the league.

We do need to get going soon but we’re creating more and edging towards some sort of shape that I think will start to see us firing. Players like Hamer will start to flourish soon now the players are starting to have a little more clarity.

One unfortunate result after an outlier of a reffing performance shouldn’t mask the direction of travel.

I don't even like Wilder and I agree with this statement.

Also, we were up against a ref that cannot count apparently.

We need to come good soon because 2 or 3 more games without positive results and we’re very much in a relegation fight for the remainder of the season. We look devoid of fight, lacking any attacking potency and extremely susceptible to any kind of pressure on the defence. Not a good combination.

We might, but it's too late to think seriously about promotion. That's pretty much gone now.
This downgraded group don't have that level of turnaround in them.

It's depressing to say, but survival and beating Wednesday is all we have to aim for this season.
A cup run might be nice if we get decent draws too.

I really don’t want to concede that point.

But the owners will look back on the calamitous few months spell July to September when they got well ahead of their capability.

The league will be there for the taking this season. We will fail to capitalise because Sellés left us with nothing. Not a single scraped point. Also a transfer policy that saw us fail to capture valuable freebies in Dunne, Darling and McBurnie, all of which would have joined Wilder and be in the starting XI.

Instead we ended up with Tanganga, McGuinness and Godfrey for about 13m and ridiculous wages and a lack of ability in the latter’s case. We lost most of the physicality of the team offloading Souza and Moore and not replacing that. Absolute disaster of a summer of negligence when tinkering would have done.

So some shite team that wasn’t worthy of wiping the shit off our shoe last season is probably going to go up only this time the wounds are purely self inflicted all because the owners couldn’t leave well alone.

We’re only 10 points off the play offs with 38 games to go.

Main hope is can Arblaster come back and run games after such an absence and can Davies stay fit alongside him. That miracle is the thread upon which any sense of achievement this season hangs.

To do this we simply have to sort the midfield out. There is a distinct lack of creativity with the ball out our feet in the middle of the park.

Hamer is a very good player but so inconsistent. Davies, we need to keep fit as he can actually keep hold of the ball and bring in players around him. Peck is so limited in possession that he keeps going sideways and backwards. O’Hare, as many have said, is too lightweight and gets muscled off the ball far too easily.

We are very short on creativity in midfield, it’s there where we have regressed since Vini was sold and not really replaced.

I do feel like we are back to where we were at the end of last season. I mean that in a positive way and if we keep going at that level, we should be somewhere up the table by the end of the season.

Last night was completely different to Ipswich game. We created chances, we had periods of looking OK, their second goal was a brilliant finish.

2-1 against a side that's come down would be what we got last season.

We just need to show we can keep improving.

It's definitely better, we feel more solid without threatening much.

Hamer should be dropped and wages suspended until he gets fit enough for what should be a top end championship footballer. Nothing short of disgusting the shape he's come back in this season.

I'd argue we look shot athletically too. Wilders model works if we're 1-0/2-0 up going into the last 20 and can see out games with a big experienced defence, but as we saw last night and against Charlton, if we're asked to chase games, we simply don't have the legs...

We are going down.

If we even score We can’t score more than 1 goal and same as last year we rely on clinging on to a 1-0 lead. We don’t have a Keiffer Moore type striker so if it isn’t working we bring on Cannon who is the worst striker we have had since Brewster.

We have lost every single home game.

We have lost every match but one.

We played 3 at the back last night and still lost . Our summer has killed us and now we have no confidence to turn it round. Our players are weak as piss.

Our neighbours have no squad , money or ability to pay staff and they are head and shoulders better. They are fighting for everything. We are kicking balls at our own fans.

I wish I didn’t care.

I'm not so sure.
Heads will be down again. I'm not sure the players believe in themselves.
Were in a relegation battle make no mistake about it.

We are in a relegation battle as long as we are stuck in the bottom 3. That's the simple way I look at it, even with so much time left to play.

But I agree with the Op entirely. The difference between the performances in the 2nd half v Oxford and most of last night is a dramatic improvement on what we were seeing before.

There are still things that need to get better, no doubt about that, but I think we will start picking up points from here on in. We were absolutely robbed on 1 last night by the worst referee that I can ever recall seeing.

I’ve been thinking about it and I’m not sure we can play Hamer and O’Hare in the same side. They’re too similar in an attacking sense and if we play both, we have to play one out of position.

Hamer has been awful this season. At least O’Hare gets stuck in and moves a bit more, but he often then holds onto the ball far too long, when in possession and loses it.

Not sure what the solution is but I feel that playing both is just handicapping us at the moment.

I do think we can turn it around still as there was some positive signs there last night, but realistically it needs to happen quickly.

We are going down.

Can't see why we can't do top 6 if we carry on the turn round, and blaster and Davies are available. Ings contribution and the stronger back line.
If we are flying at the end of the season then playoffs would feel more positive than they did last season.

We need to hope we can pick up enough points between now and January to keep us away foem the bottom three. Then the window is crucial, we need a big athletic striker (look at what Stewart did for Saints last night and I'm not just talking about his goals) a proper pacey wide man and a box to box midfielder who can hold onto the ball (assuming Blaster isnt fit).

However will the owners have the stomach to spend more money after this summers debacle? If not make no mistake this is a bottom half of the Championship squad the way its playing.

One other thing whoever was responsible for bringing in the likes of Bindon, Barry, Godfrey, Matos, Soumare etc all need sacking. The only signings who look anything like good enough at present are Tanganga, McGuiness and Mee and I will reserve judgement on Ogbene. Matos and Soumare may develop but after losing Souza and with Blaster and Davies injured we needed a guaranteed starter in CM and we didn't bring one in.

We actually gave ourselves an opportunity to win a game of football last night, which is a significant improvement on anything pre-Oxford this season, so that’s a positive. We were never going to return to the result grinding side of last season overnight, but there are some green shoots of positivity. Going back to 3 centre halves has helped, Davies brought some much needed quality in the middle of the pitch & we could have bagged 2 or 3 more goals.

I’m in agreement that it will come good and we’ll be fine, but we’ve lost too many already to think of the play-offs unfortunately. This is a full salvage season now and I reckon our ceiling is mid-table.

People talking about promotion are genuinely making me cringe.

As well as a very inconsistent short stride
Looking back at the video clip, his last stride was almost half the length of the previous 7 - having to shorten it because the wall was in the way.

There should really be an FA investigation but I'll guarantee they concentrate on CW's petulance rather than incompetent refereeing.

It was only there second win since the first day of the season! There nothing special!

I know, but they still should be on paper a stronger side than most in the division having just come down.

Looking at the fixture list, this was not a game I was expecting a guaranteed 3 points from before the season started.

I'm not a Wilder fan boy, but I feel like the past 3 games we have felt competitive, which is a massive step forward from previous games.

We’re in a relegation fight, anything above 17th this season is a massive result. The longer we keep pretending we’re a promotion contender the worse it’s going to be.

Southampton beat us at a canter yesterday, putting aside the awful ref they could have easily scored a couple more and stepped off us in the last 10.

I think a lot of fans have got to stop hiding behind Wilder, and i don't mean that in a derogatory sense! He can only work with what he's got, and come on let's be honest it's shite! This team as got relegation wrote allover over it! I don't know it all, just got 60 odd years of watching us... seen it all before sadly, hope I'm wrong because it will set the club back years, and i ain't got that many left🙄

No they didn't COH and Campbell had guilt edge chances. A draw would have been fairer.

Wilder and Knilly have brought structure to the team , talk of play offs is mental but staving off relegation more than doable- Wilder and team are 100% right team to survive.

Talking to someone this morning who thinks we're gone! Says no team has ever stayed up after losing 7 of there first 8 games ..
I'm not in that camp but it is a worry as we will find goals hard to comeby as we are lightweight in midfield and up front.

We're already in a relegation scrap for all the reasons you outline.

If we don't find regular goals from somewhere every game will be like last night, and we will lose more than we win.

Hard to work out exactly what formation we were playing last night, in that 1st half it looked like we kept switching between a 4-2-3-1 and a 3-4-2-1 but it seemed to suit the players we had on the pitch.

One more game this Saturday then we've got an international break for players to have a bit of a rest (mainly in regards to Ings, Mee and Davies), plus it shouldn't be too long after the international break that Arblaster is back (a few weeks at most hopefully).

We saw how Davies coming back improved the team as a whole, Arblaster coming back should do the same.

Or maybe we sign Mbappe and Kane in January?
