I’m sure we’ll get players in but everything so far suggests we’re cutting our cloth for life without parachute payments and with (hopefully) a shot at the play offs as our best hope.
Is that necessarily a bad thing? We’ve discussed the teams that have spent more than expected this summer are teams who haven’t had parachute payments, Millwall, Coventry, QPR for example haven’t been promoted recently yet are spending some serious money. Maybe a stable footing is a launching pad, it’s whether the fans can stomach it after coming to close last year I suppose

I see the need for an experienced and commanding centre half, but one of the requirements, certainly in a defence with Bindon and Burrows, is pace...
If Sellés wants to play a high line, it's very bizarre how the one defender he's signed so far and seems to have committed to as a starter clearly lacks pace

No, not necessarily…though Coventry, Millwall and QPR appear to have sold players to balance out their spending.

The current complaint from our fans is the imbalance in outgoings/incomings with some glaring, costly omissions in defence.

Bindon has a touch of 'class' on the ball about him but not sure he's the guy to carry a new kid through a game.
Agree on the ball and it was evident last weekend. But with the way Selles wants to play his lack of pace is a huge issue and he ain't going to get away with it in this league. see Bristol City's 2nd goal, Riis gave him a start and still outpaced him easily, Riis is hardly quick.

The thought had crossed my mind. I hope its not the case and we do some good business in the last two weeks of the window. I am beginning to wonder though. Something just doesn't seem right at the club at the moment. Don't know why and I have no knowledge of anything. I just have an uneasy feeling about it.
I think we're clearly just in a transition faze. It always creates unease, a lot of changes in both personnel and methods. It'll take time, but if we're serious about moving away from the previous culture and set up, then we just need to work through the discomfort. I'm sure there will be a couple who really don't like it and I'd guess if they aren't going to buy into it, then they'll be on their way.

I agree, look at city...pep came in dropped Hart etc as they couldnt/wouldn't play the way he wanted.
I am not saying that we will be city but it was an example of how transition means moving people on.
The difference is that city realised that transition also required some initial investment.

I personally feel that we need a CB who a) buys into the style, b).experience, c) pace
Those 3 will cost money,.unfortunately.

Could be very decent going forward in future given it might be Bindon is only a loan option and not realistically a perm

Agreed, so if hes not the pacey CB he needs to be the f off, ugly, hard, win everything CB and I dont think hes that either

Is Mepham still knocking about?

By the looks of it we need two solid war horse types (Tanganga, Mepham). Some leadership like Egan (Might not be the best example), youth like Hughes.
I definitely think we need an experienced defensive organiser at the back. Mepham is not a bad shout.

A simple search under the website Transfer Mrket when you search for free agents that last played in 2025 with Championship experience it gives the below

Craig Dawson - At 35 very experienced former Wolves and WBA - not sure if he is wanting to continue but a potential 1 year deal could be an easy pickup
Michael Rose - Only 29 had experience at Coventry and Stoke as well as the Scottish Leagues over 150 championship games.
Shaun Hutchinson - Another old one at 34 but plenty of Championship experience with Fulham and Millwall
Kortney Hause - Had some knee troubles but not sure if fit - had experience at Villa and Watford still only 30
Patrick Bauer - A unit at 6'4 experience with Charlton and Preston probably the lower end Championship player but only 32 still
Alexander Milošević - Didn't get any joy on loan at Portsmouth but is a capped Swedish international another unit at 6'4 plenty of experience with AIK
Ben Mee - Has been mentioned on other threads

I am not saying that any of the above will be perfect fits however all are free transfers with Championship experience and wouldn't have high wage expectations. Some might be available only for a season but that could be enough just to back up the defence. If you had the likes of Dawson even as a bench option it brings experience to the dressing room. Rose for me is an easy win and if signing Zätterström why not sign Milosevic a fellow Swede to assist in transition.

Don't ever link Rose with this team again

Jesus H Christ I've seen some shit over the years and he might be up there. Him and Gibson at Stoke make our current backline look like a pair of Maldini's

Would take anyone right now, those on there got to be better than what we currently have.

To be fair I would be looking at 3 getting rid of Robinson, I think if we are bringing in Zätterström on a permanent deal then signing Milošević makes sense as a bench player, short term deal a couple of years tops. It would help Zätterström settle at the club and at 6'4, Milošević is a sizeable asset also he played at Forest 12 times in the Championship scoring once (quite a nice volley). Due to the age the 3rd I would be looking at is probably not Dawson although he would add a lot to dressing room experience on a 1 year deal it would break up the team again adding Patrick Bauer as a 1st teamer gives options of a longer contract given his age.

Back Line of Bauer and Zätterström/Bindon with option to rotate and Milošević off the bench.

This guy should be being signed as Bindon’s replacement when he leaves next summer not Anel or Robinson’s replacement for this season. Now doing that in advance now when we have the chance is good forward planning but only if starting replacements are brought in alongside

I know we’re slow mate, but starting a transfer now with the hope of concluding it before next summer might even be manageable for us! 😂

I would say we need 3 regardless of Robinson going or not. Dovy should be no where near squad, needs a loan.

Then we have 2 for each cb side, Burnley and leeds had this depth, it also allows us to keep Robinson away from the match day squad.

It allows us to have enough depth to keep the same back line every game, and depth to give fa cup a good go too.

Can we stop suggesting old players who don’t play as high press centre backs as we won’t be signing them.
Agreed I have just thrown some names out like throwing shit and seeing what sticks however if we want experience but also want high pressing centre backs we aren't going to get them anyway. The type of player we require needs endless scouting and we don't have the cash or timeframe to do that. Although Selles likes his
4-3-3 high press etc, it's going to come down to who settles first. We could easily sign free transfers and develop a strong back 4 that might not be as athletic but makes the yards up with experience and blended with subs will do a job, in front of that you have the DM/AM roles to create the spine with wingers. Which would end up with something like the below
GK
RB CB CB LB
DM
RW AM LW
ST ST

Although not a natural Selles formation it would allow us a bit more flexibility in this transfer window to sort out our transitional period and settle the squad down whilst proper targets are found to replace the older centre backs with could be picked up for free. Burnley's mantra last season was based on strong defence and only needing to win by the odd goal as they knew they were solid at the back.

That’s what scouts get paid for🤷‍♂️
Manager should be able to go to a scout and say we need a left sided centre half and him pull out a dozen they are familiar with. They should go for every position. Not “hey let’s start scouting” at the point you really need to be signing them.
