I dont mind us spending a couple of £100k on players who may or may not come good. But this one seems crazy and then we had an opportunity to offload and we missed it because of a clause being too high.

If he ripped Serie A a new one and looked every bit like a £10m player, would you rather the option have been what it was, or lower? Additionally, do you think the option clause also came with the condition that if Genoa weren't interested at that price, but would offer a lower figure that we still found acceptable, we are obliged to reject it?

I take your point, but it does feel like all the young players we bought last summer would ideally all be got rid of this summer.

If we thought he was going to tear it up, we wouldn't have even put a clause in, we would have wanted him back.

Maybe they still might make a lower offer, just surprised by the whole situation really.

If we thought that he would have been starting for us. Naturally there might be a difference between how our current football operations staff evaluates players and how a competent team does the same. If we were wrong, and it would not be the first time, you've got to at least try to protect your position

Not even close to be true. The only signing we’ve made money on is Ramsdale, most of our signings leave for free or bargain price at the end of their deals.

Not to mention the amount of money we’ve wasted on loans or players that were never fit enough to play in the first place.

Have a look at Wigan, or West Brom, or Stoke. Pick a few random clubs that are about our level and have a detailed look at their past fifteen years of transfers.
