The most important job at any club is the manager. How the hell did AI pick out Selles with his record. The answer is of course it didn't. He was a cheap option after Wilder and less likely to kick up a fuss when key players were sold.

This is what ChatGPT 5 says

  • Vincent Kompany — Took Burnley up playing attractive football; though his Premier League season’s been tough, his Championship performance was near flawless.
  • Steve Cooper — Guided Nottingham Forest up with an incredible turnaround, also known for developing young players.
  • Neil Warnock — If you want pure survival and grind-your-way-up experience; he’s managed more promotions than most managers have clubs.

If it’s for a fictional “my” team and I’m allowed a bit of fun, I’d probably choose Cooper—balanced between modern football, youth development, and handling pressure.

I'd guess he was chosen because of his success with young players at Reading. We're obviously going for a model where the vast majority of the squad will be under 25 as we feel that's how we can make money by selling them on at their peak value.

I do think there was logic behind the Selles appointment when you look at it this way. He managed a team of kids at Reading and made them a competitive side. Our owners will likely think he can do even better with more talented youngsters.

Will it work? It's a big ask but I don't think he was necessarily the cheap option.

What was the question asked to ChatGPT out of interest, using it with work more and more, you only get out of it what you put in.
Gary O’Neil, Sean Dyche and Steven Gerrard are mentioned if you ask it. Who could be a good replacement manager for Sheffield united.

If you asked it .... If selles is sacked who could be the next Sheffield united manager?

ChatGPT said:
If Rubén Sellés were to be dismissed in the future, speculation and betting markets currently spotlight several strong contenders who could succeed him at Sheffield United. Sean Dyche – 11/4 odds, Steve Cooper – 5/1 odds
Also listed (with longer odds) are Gary O’Neil, Steven Gerrard, and others like Paul Heckingbottom, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Dean Smith, and more

I appreciate the club have mentioned AI, but I'm not convinced Bettis is sat down bashing in Chat GPT prompts. There will be specific commercial LLMs which interpret the raw data a lot more effectively than the public platforms.

Our perceived use of AI is basically just a meme at this point.

Most people are thinking AI is some kind of robot overlord that must be obeyed, the reality is quite different.

Firstly: AI can only query the data it has access to, is not a Sy-Fy film where it looks at the whole knowledge of mankind to make suggestions.

Secondly: its new technology, the clue is in the name, it has to learn, it has to get negative results to know where its going wrong, it’s the equivalent of a 3 yar old child.

I’m 100% sure the club is not making staffing decisions based on this (currently) flawed technology.

But they only have to throw in a few AI references to press releases to make it the latest scape goat.

Selles needs time with the transition and bringing his own players in. He deserves at least this season to show his skills and try make us better going forward in the long run.

Beds a little wet but not much, we will see what the owners are about once September comes.

Probably because we're genuinely a negative fanbase I'll be honest and dont think it'll work out. That's me going back to the Slav days for example.. so that's maybe harsh as different owner and manager etc.

Obviously hope it does work out but it's just my gut feeling since the summer begun tbh.

Come on Ruben lad!

I’ve never known a fan base shoot from the hip as much as ours. The last two days of reaction has been fucking mental. Think a lot of you need to take up Yoga or stop supporting the club for the good of your health.

Fucking hell. Them bastards from South Barnsley are getting bought by a known twat who’s clubs are in debt to their eyeballs and most recently been relegated and they’re still 100000000x more optimistic than our lot after one fucking game where we had no fucking defence.

Fucking hell!

Warnock's semi retired. Kompany and Cooper wouldn't have wanted the job.

When I asked, ChatGPT said we should have stuck with he-who-cannot-be-mentioned.

Bang on,it’s exasperating.

Another positive is the club obviously intended trying the foreign player route.

Selles has a wealth of experience working with foreign players in several different countries.
In comparison Wilder is really inexperienced working with foreign players.
Not saying it’s right but there is a logic to choosing a manager.
First task to to draw up a job spec….what they are looking for….then they see who matches that profile.

AI says Stephen Bettis doesn’t actually exist and is in fact a basilisk who’s experience is in land and property, not football.

I don't think it's AI - whatever that is, the one thing for sure is that it ain't what most think it is ie the road to salvation on all matters for humanity.
Fwiw I think our owners are gamblers and to quote a previous manager re McCabe, they know the square root of F. all about football and even less about running a club. They gambled on CW taking us up and gave him 10 million on a striker.
That worked well, so CW had to go - forgetting that CW built a team from virtually nothing and that we were done out of circa 150 million by a very arguable VAR decision and history.
Anyway, we are where we are, and that is unless we get at least 2 big CB's - one needs to be fast, the season's going tits up ( I was one of the 18% saying that pre season poll).
I hope the CB's happen, but I don't think we've got the brass.
I've no agenda against Seles but unless he's backed it's Slav mk. 2.

Agree with that.
But he will hardly be expensive.
He has no record I am aware of.

Does anyone think as me. that not only could we have only done better keeping Hecky (minus McDonkey and Hudson) with money at Christmas that Wilder had
Would have got up last year with the players brought in at the start if we had gone down
Kept such as Jebbison and possibly Osula (unlike the journey manager who had to be stopped from replacing Peck as well as all the others over his time)
(TRUSTY would look brilliant in place of our centre backs FFS )
and had an ideal successful manager to progress young players - whatever division.

Act in haste, repent at leisure
