I think something has happened to Wilder lashing out at fans? Perhaps he gets pissed to much and is too old to fit in with the modern world? Similar to Clough near the end.

Also, can someone say what Alan Knill brings to the table nowadays? He was rightly praised first time round for dead ball routines and developing our playing style?

He just seems to stand like a cunt on matchays rarely offering anything? We don't do owt on corners and have the laughable Robinson long throw routine.

We seem very predictable to play against and we have played "well" on maybe 5 occasions all season.

It pains me to say it but Wilder Knill should be pensioned off, get a younger manager in with tactical nous and a coach who is actively involved?

*Clough meaning Brian, not the depressing one that managed us
Are you Fallowfield in disguise? (Not a very good one)

If so I claim my prize.

On this point, how many goals have come from the Robinson long throw?

It should be an excellent weapon, but I honestly can't remember the last time it worked.
How many did we score when we had Leigh Bromby and Greg Halford?

Chris Wilder is 57. Hardly old in manager terms. He has a few beers to wind down. Who doesn't?

Alan Knill seems to stand like a cunt on matchdays ! How exactly does a cunt stand?

We are that predictable to play against we have won more games than any other team in the league.

Ok we have lost TWO games on the trot against teams we should have done better against. We have consistently been in or near the top three positions in the league. Are the two guys ( the ones you want pensioned off)who kept us in this position not responsible for this?

I'm disappointed we were poor over our last two outings. I also think we should have done better. But that's football. Sometimes you don't always get what you want. We are still not out of it.
Wilder and Knill have done brilliantly to get us to this position. It would be insanity to sack them at this point in the season.

I hope this is insightful enough discussion for you.

Although I've been one of those banging on for months that our performances have not been reflecting our results - and they now are - there has been way too much pessimism over the last five days, even by usual Sheffield United standards.

However, on the assumption that the OP has a point and that it's certainly not tempting fate to discuss failure, we should certainly be looking for a new manager in that case. And there's one who will be readily available and won 't even have to move house or anything. Appointing him would be the best thing we could ever do regardless of what would happen in the aftermath. For bants alone it would be the mark of genius.

On the other hand I'm not at all sure that any of our contracted players would definitely be wanted by Premier League clubs. Our best player didn't move last summer so I don't see why he should this either, mostly because I imagine the type of clubs that would be interested in him think he takes too many risks with the ball. Souza and Ahmedhodzic looked terrible last season so, again, I don't think it's automatic that they'll have PL interest. Maybe all three could be targets abroad. Cooper? To where? And as there's an obvious injury doubt about Arblaster it's not a given anyone will bid for him either.

If we kept even 3 of those 5 along with Burrows, Seriki, O'Hare, Brooks and Campbell we'd already have the basis of another promotion challenging side. We will need three very decent centre backs, though, a couple of proper attacking wide midfielders and, our perennial achilles heel, another bloody striker.

And no money on O’Connell, Fleck, McGoldrick, Campbell etc.

He’s got a very good eye for a player. He should be allowed 2 or 3 frees/ loans/ low fee transfers a year as the upside is massive. Big money signings should be up to someone else, provided Wilder agrees with them.
Yes a Director of Football but good old Chris wouldn't agree with that would he? Plus should we get promoted frees/loans/low fee transfers won't result in the promised land of "established Premier League club 🤔 "

Wilder is now distracted by his ego reacting to the few fans giving some out of order stick. You don’t see top managers going off on one and fielding the same starting 11 that failed so spectacularly at Oxford. That was a knee jerk reaction to criticisms imo trying to prove himself right. As I said ego now damaging chances, he’s visibly more upset by that than 2 defeats snatching failure from the jaws of success.

The fact that QPR, who hadn't won in their previous 7 went and won 3-1 at Oxford last night didn't go unnoticed either.

I don’t see us getting rid of Wilder. He’s got us 83 points with 5 to go on a huge transfer surplus having built a brand new squad and slashed the wage bill. Not finishing above the two teams with larger wage bills is hardly P45 stuff. Talk like that is definitely “be careful what you wish for” territory. Nigel Adkins is still free. Maybe we could poach Cloughie or give David Weir another bash? Perhaps 6 months of Slav or perhaps give Blackie a call? We are not adept in this area at all. Let’s not pretend we are.

It’s not easy to get a manager who can have you competing at the top of the division, just ask Norwich,

Let’s say we don’t go up though, I still have hope we will come good, but for the sake of this thread.

Cooper - stay unless Leeds offer PL football as replacement for Meslier.
Davies - released, replaced by younger keeper, Barnsley keeper?
Ahmedhodzic - sold for contract reasons. Replaced by Harry Darling
Holding - return from loan
Robinson - stay
Burrows - stay
McCallum - stay
Norrington-Davies - released
Gilchrist - return from loan. Replaced by Jimmy Dunne.
Clarke - return from loan
Seriki - stay
Shackleton - stay
Souza - sold. Can’t see player remaining if not promoted.
Choudhury - sign as replacement for Souza.
Hamer - sold. Can’t see player remaining if not promoted.
Brooks - stay
Arblaster - stay
Davies - stay
Peck - stay
O’Hare - stay
Caceres - stay. Becomes squad rotation player
Nwachukwu - loaned out.
Rak-Sakyi - return from loan
Cannon - takes over the Brewster role from Brewster.
Brewster - leave. Will probably not accept the wage cut we need if we stay down.
Campbell - stay
Moore - stay
Brereton-Diaz - sign, replace Hamer in more conventional LW role.
Oné - stay

Gives you:

Cooper
Dunne* Darling* Robinson Burrows
O’Hare Arblaster Peck Brereton-Diaz*
Cannon Campbell

Subs from - GK*, Seriki, McCallum, Shackleton, Choudhury*, Brooks, Davies, Caceres, Moore, Oné

That’s with 5 new signing, add more quality through loans.

Personally I would like a new manager in that’s more forward thinking for starters.

Imagine if we do go up though, and have to get a new manager every time we loose a game.

Though with a more 'forward thinking manager' we will never loose a game, ever again.......

If we're in the championship then Jimmy Dunne, Harry Darling, Tyrhys Dolan and possibly Jonjoe Kenny should all be signed on frees

Start with that

Sell Anel, Souza and Hamer for maximum price, whatever it is, as soon as possible

Don't entertain anything but massive offers for Cooper and Peck

Build the team around Arblaster and Peck in midfield

Try and palm Moore off on Hull or Stoke

Promote Ryan Oné as a starting option

Sign Brereton for the right price if he promises to sort himself out

And obviously sign Lewis O'Brien

Cooper
Dunne Darling Worrall? Burrows
Peck Arblaster
Dolan O'Hare Brereton
Campbell

Subs: Faxon, Seriki, Robinson (as if), McCallum, O'Brien, Davies, Brooks, Cannon, Oné

That would be a good starting point, and at a very large profit

Add a couple of quality loans and we'd be top 3 again

Just to throw it away at the last minute!
The season has ended? I mean, even still we've won as many points as the other two teams, but still... canceling the season with 5 games to go is a bit harsh.

no one will be good enough has blades boss you wasnt moaning when he was winning nobody will do not even the special one in charge be he will get hated youll get him sacked some love to blame the gaffer for everything look at themselves can they do better

Next season will all depend on how we replace Hamer, Souza, Cooper, and Anel.

All big losses but it Should also mean an extra £50m plus into the kitty to go and get:-

Loan keeper like Hendo was from the prem.

£20m on a couple of midfielders

£10m on a new CB

£10m on a new CF

If we have the right scouting in place that should be doable and should make us competitive next season.. but it may also depend on us getting a new manager in as Wilder looks a busted flush especially when identifying new signings for money.
If we only get £50m for those 4 then some fucker wants sacking to begin with.

So now that it looks like we’ll not be going up because we all know what happens in the playoffs, what would you like to see happen over summer in time for the new season starting? Who leaves, who stays?
Personally I would like a new manager in that’s more forward thinking for starters.
Roseinior please!! Get him in!!

1st job sack Wilder.
I can't see Hamer or Souza wanting another year in the Championship nor any of the loanee's. If we have to have another rebuild do it with a new manager who has a bit of tactical nous.
Where would they go ? Neither are good enough for the premiership as shown by a huge margin last season. It may help a little more if he played Hamer in position and Gus could do more than 60 minutes without being attracted to to the meat pie wagon.

We can actually get promoted without winning another game can't we, bar penalties
We can get promoted without winning a game full stop - draw the next five, Leeds and Burnley lose all their remaining games (apart from Burnleys game against us which they draw) and we go up 3 points ahead of Leeds and 2 ahead of Burnley.

In the pantheon of ways this season could end, I'd place this outcome on the unlikely side - significantly below a situation where we actually win the Playoffs.

IF (emphasis on if) we dont go up this season then I dont think our squad next season would look too bad.

More than likely lose Hamer, Souza and Anel plus loanees going back.

However I'm confident we'd be able to hold on to the newer arrivals and break through players for at least one more season.

This is what I'm kinda looking at..

I think 3Cheers4Ramirez did a good job of answering your post.

You raise money on Souza but you still have Arblaster to reintegrate so that kind of takes care of itself. We have missed Arblaster’s goals as he was looking like a scorer.

I don’t feel the system makes the best out out Gus. Having two out and out wingers like Dolan and Brereton-Diaz more suits this style. I feel Gus is more suited to a a central midfield three in say a 4-3-3.

I don’t know enough about Kenny but Dunne and Darling seem obvious pick ups and with Seriki cover that right side. It’s a tricky one making Robbo Captain but knowing to be a genuine top two team he would need replacing. It’s the sort of decision which could be the downfall lf the team and manager.

We’re still better going up this year. Leeds, Burnley and us are clearly the best in this season of the up/down cycle especially as Luton have not bounced back.

Next season, you’d expect all the relegated teams to hav strong shouts so automatic feels like 2 from 4 rather than 2 from 3.

I haven’t given up hope this year. Plenty of twists and turns to come I suspect. And we would be favourites for the playoffs (I know, I know - but the bookies don’t carry our baggage and aren’t wrong that often).

But if we do stay down then I would look forward to us building a team around a midfield 2/3 of Arblaster, Peck and Brooks, and a back line including Seriki, Butrows and Cooper (would do everything possible to hold onto him for another year).

Assuming we sell Anel, Hamer and Vini, we would need three or four good centre backs. Two of them left footers because I reallly think Robbo’s time here is done - he’s a competent Champ Center back but the drop off when Souttar got injured was massive, despite good results masking performances.

The front line we can then build with loans and a bit of expected investment from the new owners, plus Campbell.

I think we could be in for a good fun season if we manage to do that. Re Wilder, it’s a rough one. I think a lot depends on how his relationship is withe the new owners. If we get grumpy, chip-on-shoulder wilder then let’s move on. But if they really back him for another year there are few better at this level. We should be very careful what we wish for.
