So now that it looks like we’ll not be going up because we all know what happens in the playoffs, what would you like to see happen over summer in time for the new season starting? Who leaves, who stays?
Personally I would like a new manager in that’s more forward thinking for starters.

Going along with the premise - even though I think there is plenty of mileage left in this season both for automatics and the play-offs - I would actually look at another relatively sizeable rebuild.

If reasonable money is available, that may be without losing too many of the mainstays.

If money is tight, I would be willing to re-finance by selling both of Ahmedhodzic and Hamer at top prices. Anel would not extend his contract - in my view - anyway if we stay down. And Hamer does flatter to deceive a lot of the time and I am getting pissed off with the number of completely childish yellow cards that in my view hurt the team in the long run.

Creativity in this league can come from Prem loans. It looks as if McAtee and MGW might both end up at City so surely there are others that can provide a spark for a top end Championship team.

I would not go back for JRS. He does have output, but too often he is unpredictable and flaky in a way that even his team-mates can never read in advance.

The main players we need to keep in my view would be Vini (if he does not flounce and is invested), the promising youngsters (Seriki, Peck, One, Arblaster) and Tyrese.

Brester and Robbo - if retained - need to be more peripheral than this year. I'd also keep O'Hare. Moore and Cannon get half a season to fight it out for second striker spot. If they fail, one goes quietly for little money, the other may fund a much-needed reinforcement in January or has started having team value and is kept.

We will need new wingers on either flank. BBD I am neutral on. Depends on price. I'd buy two or three new central defenders, one of whom may be Souttar or Jake Cooper. And then we augment this with Prem loans in centre mid (creativity) and up top with a young starlet striker/winger so we have five or six to choose from.

It goes without saying that Cooper and Burrows are held to their contracts come what may. At right back, Gilchrist is a no for me. So we probably need to buy or loan competition for Seriki as well.

The temptation to take 11 million for Peck or Arblaster from lower-tier Prem teams must be resisted. They only are considered as sales for figures above 30 to 35 million each. All these teams are no longer at risk of relegation. They therefore have "safe" future money to spend. They should not get gems for 12 million, then get to sell them on for 50 million at 24 or 25.

Would you trust Wilder to spend anymore money regardless of which division we are in?
Absolutely not. Combined 30m ish on Brewster and cannon. Just think the calibre of player(s) that could’ve been brought in on that kind of money.

Next season will all depend on how we replace Hamer, Souza, Cooper, and Anel.

All big losses but it Should also mean an extra £50m plus into the kitty to go and get:-

Loan keeper like Hendo was from the prem.

£20m on a couple of midfielders

£10m on a new CB

£10m on a new CF

If we have the right scouting in place that should be doable and should make us competitive next season.. but it may also depend on us getting a new manager in as Wilder looks a busted flush especially when identifying new signings for money.

That kind of spending in this league is practically suicidal. Especially is Wilder is spending the money.

Do you have anyone in mind re: new manager?

Personally I think Wilder did a cracking job getting this seasons squad together in the circumstances and would be happy to see him tackle 2025/26 with the new owners.

Nothing is decided yet.

However, my fear if we don't go up is that Hamer will leave (probably to Leeds), Souza may go to Europe, Anel will be reluctant to extend a contract and Cooper may have his head turned even if it's to sit on a bench for a promoted team (though I don't see him pushing for a move and we have him on a long term).

I do think we would retain the likes of O'Hare and Burrows so the summer would be building around players like these to get the best out of them.

way too soon to write us off

still got a point more than leeds in last 6 despite losing 2
every one thought top 3 would get high 90 points like last season, doubtful if 84 will get reached as clubs feel the pressure

15 points still available

we win last 5 we go upas we will beat Burnley

only really weak minded people give up

Too early for this thread. We're 2 points off top of the league having given them a 2 point head start and we've won 2 more games than Leeds have, and 3 more games than Burnley.

If we win our next 2, which isn't against the realms of possibility, we will go into the game against Burnley (at the very worst) 2 points behind them with 3 games to go. Yet a section of our fans have already thrown the towel in. I don't think Leeds and Burnley will both win all their remaining games so it isn't over yet!

No, they don't.
There's not a manager in this league that would have got us to this position after last season.

I'd quite like us to do what I thought we were going to do in January which is sign some quality defenders permanently so that Robinson is benched and Seriki has quality competition at RB. I'd also seriously tell any players with over a year on their contract that they can fuck off with their transfer request. Cooper wants to leave? Tough fucking luck lad. Hamer wants to leave? Tough fucking luck lad. Souza wants to leave? Tough fucking luck lad.

Keep the quality if contracts allow it and add to it. Key attacking position to improve is the Brewster/O'Hare role where both have been quite underwhelming as their goal tallies show. Do not renew Brewster contract. Let Cannon go on loan somewhere with view to permanent move he manages to bag a few. Bring in quality competition for Campbell as it just doesn't exist at the club currently and he's almost certain to get injured at some point.

Has anyone thought coh don't want to pay PA the promotion bonus 🤷
Just the conspiracy theorist in me 😁
But seriously as much as I love cw its time for a new "head coach " not manager either way promoted or not
Recruitment needs taking away and handed to a proper scouting department .
Whoever pushed the signing of Cannon needs sacking it seems we've wasted 10m or is it some agreement we've got with Leicester regarding souttar

Wilder is now distracted by his ego reacting to the few fans giving some out of order stick. You don’t see top managers going off on one and fielding the same starting 11 that failed so spectacularly at Oxford. That was a knee jerk reaction to criticisms imo trying to prove himself right. As I said ego now damaging chances, he’s visibly more upset by that than 2 defeats snatching failure from the jaws of success.

Still makes me laugh that we're 2ptsd behind top, who we still have to play

but our season is over... 🤣
Have you supported Sheffield United for a long time
Just wondered

And no money on O’Connell, Fleck, McGoldrick, Campbell etc.

He’s got a very good eye for a player. He should be allowed 2 or 3 frees/ loans/ low fee transfers a year as the upside is massive. Big money signings should be up to someone else, provided Wilder agrees with them.

I think something has happened to Wilder lashing out at fans? Perhaps he gets pissed to much and is too old to fit in with the modern world? Similar to Clough near the end.

Also, can someone say what Alan Knill brings to the table nowadays? He was rightly praised first time round for dead ball routines and developing our playing style?

He just seems to stand like a cunt on matchays rarely offering anything? We don't do owt on corners and have the laughable Robinson long throw routine.

We seem very predictable to play against and we have played "well" on maybe 5 occasions all season.

It pains me to say it but Wilder Knill should be pensioned off, get a younger manager in with tactical nous and a coach who is actively involved?

*Clough meaning Brian, not the depressing one that managed us
