Shelvey

He spat his dummy out as he was dropped and wanted to play. At Forest he was competing with too many players. Here he would be a guaranteed starter and a huge upgrade on Norwood, who shouldn't be a starter anymore. We need consistency not 1 good game, 1 invisible game. If wages aren't too silly then it's a yes for me.

????? -- Shelvey -- Berge

We'd just need the Fleck replacement after that and our midfield would look so much better. Starting with 2/3rds of the that took us up four years ago is not progression.
Some more context about this - He came in at Forest as a "guarenteed starter". We went from 20th to 12th in a few months I think prior to his arrival, but CM was always a problem position for us. It wasn't an issue with competing with too many players.

He came into the team and was painfully bad and completely wrecked our momentum. He jogged around like he wasn't arsed most matches & gave away two penalties in about 5 games and then did this:

His game was basically boot the ball forward and completely bypass MGW and in turn it wrecked his form too. Then he was dropped next match and got the hump, falling out with Cooper - a guy that seems to be liked by every player that's ever played under him.

Trust me there is no sugar coating or looking at the positives with Shelvey. He's an absolute tosser and a crap footballer.

That's mostly how I saw him as an outsider. He hits the occasional glorious pass but mostly just wanders around with the face on, plus you can guarantee as soon as he starts finding a bit of form he'll boot someone up in the air and get himself suspended for three matches.

NFFC Nick. I doubt your club will be asking you to help them sell the players they are trying to get rid of 🤣

Even they would struggle to sell a cyanide capsule like Shelvey. Whichever club takes him on will be even bigger lunatics than us. The bloke that signed him here got sacked for it, it went that badly.

I remember the night we signed him, he was at the Forest ground doing the deal before a match - and a couple of hours before kick off he left the ground and drove up to Newcastle to say a farewell to their fans instead. That just about sums up his time at Forest, we signed him on a free and it still feel like we've been ripped off.

Lewis O'Brien who you have also been linked with is the complete opposite character wise, so maybe they could give me a job to try and flog him instead.

Scab.

Forest are presumably paying Shelvey a fortune as well. In case nobody mentioned this in the last few hours.

I can't see it.
Saudi if Gerrard likes him from Liverpool days maybe.

Wages would be too big an issue. Also doesn't seem to fit the profile of player we are tracking.

I would bide my time until 23:59 on TDD and sign him with NF picking up 95% of his wages.

As a free, I'd assume wages aren't horrific, gerrimin. However. .

This should have been one for us to go after given his pedigree and experience, assuming of course he’s fit and free of injuries.

To be fair, it's a valid concern.

Our already well-stocked direct competitors for automatic promption are becoming stronger, early into the window... whilst thus far, we've stood still at a very crucial time.
As always, will reserve judgement for a week or so but we really are playing catch up and need these bodies in for the vital 3 game week that's fast approaching.

This is what you call reserving judgement?

Yes.

I'm not casting dispersions about the new ownership.
The lack of movement at this stage isn't ideal, but I understand the complexities of dealing in January.

If nothing changes in the next two weeks then I'll start to worry about the new guys.

You said yesterday that we won't do anything till. Last minute and will scramble around for new targets

I think Wilder will wait for his no.1 targets.

Hopefully that's not the same as "last minute" but in January, it probably will be.

If they fall through, then yes - I can see a final few days scramble.

Reports suggest he's clinging onto McBurnie. Despite the Sunderland complications, he isn't seemingly moving on from BBD.

Don't get me wrong, I'm frustrated too
We've crash landed into January and are stllin touch with the top two even though they have greater resources and stronger squads than us

Was hoping for a flex from the new owners but wasn't overly optimistic given the long drawn out process of the takeover
Couple that with the fact that January is a notoriously difficult window to work in and how these people on both sides plus agents like to willy wave and justify their existence it isn't surprising me that it's not happening instantly

I suspect we will see some action this week and I have faith in the people at the club to get the best deal for us, for all the stick. They get they usually seem to do well on these kind of deals

I. Also think most stories released into The press are from agents trying to provoke a response from someone and it wouldn't surprise me at all if Sunderland aren't even interested in either cannon or bbd

Spot on take of it.

I don't think our views differ, maybe just how we express it.
The only difference between us from reading your post is that you say you "have faith in the people at the club to get the best deals possible..."
I'm sceptical by nature and the American's haven't earned that faith yet. For the same reasons you mention (protracted takeover) I still feel a little wary of them / their resources.
I hope they come up with the goods.
