Except for a few minutes when the first subs came on, to me it looked like nobody was really into this game… which is bollocks as it’s Leeds away and we are / were top of league.

This was one screwed up approach… I knew that as soon as I saw the line up…

There is or was a golden rule in football.. don’t change a winning formation ..

Wilder getting a lot of stick. Opinions are like arseholes, we all got one.

I’m going with the management team and a lot of the players will be lower than a snakes belly and devoid of energy this week.

They aren’t robots. If levels were not quite there tonight, against a well organised side like Leeds on their own turf, than so be it.

With hindsight - a postponement of the match would not have been inappropriate in the desperately sad circumstances. In my opinion. Whether it would have been granted …………

We go again in any event.

Thought 2 - 0 before a ball was kicked, but didn't want to print it as hoped I wouldn't jinx it. But fair play, they deserved the result. We didn't test their kèper at all. Put their attack in our team and we steamroller the division. Shit as it is, we're still in the mix.

Yes you are right but the players were poor tonight with wayward passing and poor performances all over the pitch so they must also take a lot of the blame.
Don't you think it fucks up the players to suddenly ask them to play a totally different formation to the one which has seen them undefeated at the top of the league ?

i know wilder will get pelters for his tactics today & it might be defeatist but I think its just realistic. but i cant think of time when we can ever go toe to toe with leeds at elland rd. its always been about survival. & i know that is painful to do. but in 46 game season there will always be a few that are damage limitation

but they have the better squad, the far bigger budget, 99% of pundits had given them the title in july & we can never catch them on bad day. because will always be hugely motivated in their biggest derby of the season, with added nature of a promotion rival at home

Yes, what you are basically saying to them in a round about way is "They're much better than you bunch of tossers, so don't try to play against them because if you do, well they're better than you"

Well said.

It takes immense mental strength to go to a place like Elland Road and take the game to the home side.

Even taking into account our strong start to the season, it's easy enough to see that recent events will have taken the shine off it for all personnel who knew George, throughout the club.

Against what might turn out to be the best team in the league, away, suffering whatever damage to morale it inevitably will have caused, it's understandable that we might set up more negatively than otherwise might have been the case.

It may well continue at Boro, then it's over to us to put on a huge show of togetherness for the next home.

Tonight's match was supposed to honour the brave fighting spirit of one Georgie Baldock and Wilder decided to set us up in a totally unfamiliar cowardly shape which was the exact opposite.
After 9 games undefeated and 6 clean sheets , he gave away the initiative from the start and lead us to an abject defeat without laying a glove on Leeds.
It would be disingenuous for him to blame Baldock's death or the players or anything other than his own gameplan , but no doubt he will try.
After slowly warming to him this season , he has really shattered me tonight from the moment I saw the team sheet.

Didn't like the change in shape, and again we were careless with the ball when we did mount attacks and gave it away too easily.
I thought Cooper,Souttar,Anel had decent games, but Souza was my Motm for us,getting blocks, tackles and interceptions in,and kept possession well, moved it quickly.
Hopefully we can bounce back at Boro, but another tough away game.

No Souza tho.. and no Peck is not the answer.

Credit where due. Leeds were better.

Better organised. Higher energy.

Their full court press denied us any time on the ball. That’s where the game was won and lost.

Small speedbump in the road.

Onwards.

Looked a bit fitter than us as well.

Oh ffs ! Are we all shtting our pants like Wilder did tonight.

Looked a bit fitter than us as well.
Yeah I’ve mentioned that elsewhere.

Understandable if more than a few of our lads were flat, given the circumstances.

Looked to be a few solemn almost teary eyed faces at kick off.

It just wasn't the Sheffield United way. We should have taken Leeds on as equals. Reminded me of some of our cowardly displays in the Prem.

Aye
Unless you’re playing Luton, having just beaten Swansea ?!?
Then it’s acceptable to make 6 changes (as long as you win)

Try telling that to the Greek squad!

Wilder lead from the front with a cowardly display hoping for a 0-0. The most abject Un-Furious display of tactics and effort I’ve seen since PL debarcle.
Yeah that’s right. Have a good pop. Hope you feel better.

Another thing. Gaffer has spoken about the “band of brothers” and how close many were to George.

That many have been in close contact this last week to support each other and mourn the loss of a much loved member of the gang. A brother from another mother.

Not going to go too far down this road, but what we have been told is that GB was swimming in his pool at home and then suddenly drowned and died. A tragedy pretty much beyond words.

You can be quite sure that in the group and individual players chats that have gone on this last week, 2 questions will have been consistently asked :-

1. Why and how the absolute fuck has this happened to George ?
2. If this can happen to George, what are the risks of something like this happening to me ?

More questions than answers for sure.

But the debilitating nature of what’s happened, the impact it will have had, and the unanswered questions it will have posed HAS to weigh heavily.

If you or anyone else can’t accept that, and believe that like robots they should be able to switch on and off at the press of a button, then I actually feel sorry for you.

RIP George.

agree with all the comments re- wilder but in the long run hes probably learned something last night and doubt he will be that negative again sloppy passing yet again last night but weve got a big problem in the final 3rd weve just not got enough options or quality there 2 strikers needed in january
