It has got to be a huge advantage for these young players to be on the field with each other. They know each others games and actually trust each other. I think it is quite interesting that Wilder when he came in picked the likes of Brookes and Arblaster. I don't really recall him bringing youngsters through when he was with us before. I guess he had nothing to lose and in the past when going for promotions everything to lose.
We also sold the better ones (Ramsdale, Adams, Brooks, Calvert Lewin). I can only think of Slater that made it and could've been given more game time.Maybe Ben Whiteman? We were a top Champ/Prem team though and they haven't reached that level since.
In McCabe's book he makes a big point about having wanted more academy players to play and be trusted under every manager he employed. A manager (Adams or Wilson iirc) is quoted as saying something along the lines of - but what did any of them I didn't play from my tenure do in the game? The answer was very little
