Massive praise for Wilder

Wilder has transformed us on a budget …. Again.

Thats a bit misleading.

We've changed our team building strategy.....instead of paying transfer fees.
We've scoured the best loans, the best frees or the best players with 1 year left, so we can get them cheap
and we've offered them massive wages.....blowing our rivals out of the water.
Also we're really lucky because we do have some Academy players who could make the step up.

So it's a case of instead of Norwood 30K a week, we're paying O'Hare £30K a week.
It's a change of tactic and seems to be working because on paper...this team looks better than any recent teams we've had.

I think the reason we failed in the PL is because we couldn't retain possession so the defence was under constant pressure.
The latest fashion in football is based around the "pressing" game.....we simply struggled to perform as a team last season
and that's because we didn't have the foundations of being comfortable on the ball during the previous year.
When our best payer N'diaye left, there were no other team tactics in place, apart from the long ball from Norwood.

If we go up we need a midfield where everyone is comfortable playing one touch football, able to pass to feet when under pressure
Then we get the opposition chasing us and the game then becomes much easier. Hence why I'm so pleased that Hamer, Arblaster, O'Hare and Peck are all being asked to play one-touch possession football, we'll need it if and when we go up.

Impression I get is that we have transferred the budget from signing fees to wages, making us more attractive to top players.

I'm looking forward to the game on Saturday more than I can remember, after last season we were talking about are we renewing season tickets this season? It wouldn't have taken much for one of us to say ok I'm not bothering for others to say OK I'm not either, really can't wait.UTFB.

We released like 19 players and signed 7 players.

The wage budget will also be much less while quality has gone up.

Agree with large parts of this.

But the wage budget will be much lower. Releasing 19 players and signing 7.

While having a net positive transfer spend.

I must admit I had doubts about Wilder coming back, didn't think he could hack it,he's having a go,good for him.🤗
I think you could argue the new owners are pushing these signings
I think this is "Wilder" type rebuild imo, he knows what he wants, I honestly think he's driving the recruitment albeit with some help in the background
No doubt in time the truth will out, 1 list, 2 lists, Wilders picks, Taylor’s oversight, just hope it keeps going in a positive direction and doesn’t fall apart in the next 3 weeks or we end up with more deducted points for meddling.

Are the"new owners" allowed to influence anything until it has been signed over?

No way has anybody 'meddled' in this recruitment campaign. These signings and wheeler dealing outgoings, by and large, have Chris Wilder written all over them. Obviously it's team effort to get deals done and dusted but, for me, all these dealings are branded 'Wilder'. Not saying he hasn't made some mistakes in the past, but what an exciting team he is assembling yet again. As I've said before, this team has all the hallmarks of that League 1 / first Championship side that Wilder put together a few years ago.

I was a big backer of Wilder, I didn't want a random big time name to come along and attempt this rebuild. Chris is one of our own and I know has the club at heart. Can't wait for Saturday.

Without wanting to stir up the old arguments about players, scouting and who was involved in them previously…but I think it’s quite interesting we’ve seemingly abandoned the efforts at signing “value from the continent”.
Back to players based in the UK….much the way we did it last time Wilder had success in the market.

Go figure.

You not leaving at half time then? Without tempting fate lol

The only difference with previous Wilder squad building is Paul Mitchell is gone other than that it feels not too dissimilar other than the huge amount of outs

I'm sure it's a bit more complicated than this, but from what I gather it's something like the difference between me running into the Prince at Bramall Lane and saying "I reckon you should bid £2m for Cooper from Plymouth" and the Prince sending me to Plymouth to negotiate a price without me being any kind of employee or representative of United. You can have all the talks you want with prospective buyers about what to do with the club, but they can't actually represent you in official dealings.

Can they even recommend certain players shouldn't be sold,I wonder.

Wonder if Wilder and Warne have made up? What was all that about!

Wonder if Wilder and Warne have made up? What was all that about!

Sparked by Wilder picking the ball up only just over the touchline, then a bit of a coming together with their player who objected. I presume words were exchanged too, as it seemed to erupt v quickly a few seconds later.

Gotta give Wilder credit today.

We weren't at our best and the occasion seemed to get to a few players first half, leading to a boring and nervy game.

Bringing Seriki on at HT as well as the enforced change was a brave move... and it paid off.

I was also not happy when we went to a back 5 at the end, but he'd seen that they were having joy out wide and going all out attack and nullified that. In the end Cooper barely had anything to do.

Results all that matters in this one and we got it!

The city is ours. UTB ⚔️

I think pigs had about 5 front men on by the end?

They stopped us playing first half
We missed an outlet up top without Moore
Second half a bit better and as you say Seriki made a difference
Glad Smith didn’t play from the start. He’s a fkin nuisance
All I’m bothered about is beating that lot to shut them up and of course 3 precious points

Onwards and upwards

A lot of the criticism about wilder was he stuck to one formation. We have two completely different ones this season.

Then it was also not giving youngsters a go. Hamer at 27 is one of the more experienced in the squad!
.

I am a big fan of his bit those were perfectly valid points to make and yet he's debunked those in 15 games!

How many managers would have changed the game by sending on two young academy players. Superb and great coaching too
In fairness he didn't have much else on the bench to bring on but two academy players. We have a quality first team but not a lot in reserve. Thankfully the kids are stepping up. They'll have good games and bad games as they learn. Today was a huge ask of them and they stepped up big time.

He deserves a stay of execution for a couple more games then.

Did we see a plan B today ?, asking for a friend.

Glad Smith didn’t play from the start. He’s a fkin nuisance
Smith didn't start for them because their idea was to just sit back and make it hard for us without our own target man, and try and get something on the occasional break.

That worked in the first half for them even though they didn't cause us any real problems. But they put in a better showing than we did.

When Smith came on it was because they had to have a go and we had an eye on protecting our lead. The tactical plans of the first half had largely been reversed.

If Smith had started in that game he'd have spent 45 minutes charging about attempting to close players down. He'd have been subbed half way through the second half. If Smith had started that game they'd have had to make it a more open affair from the off.

I don't buy into their Rohl is a genius motif, but on the other hand he's not a f*king idiot.

Nice to be able to praise Wilder and say well done for getting the subs spot on we are on the right track now so credit to him after the blips against Leeds and Boro.
