That’s the thing.

If we replace correctly, like we should do.

But we don’t do that.

Half of me thinks that Egans replacement will be Robinson.

Trusty or Norrington-Davies will have to be left centre back and we’ll sell Anel eventually and replace with a loanee.

That’s the Blades Way.

Just hope this takeover is legit. Otherwise we’re just sleepwalking again into the season.

The main issue for me now is that we're losing a large part of the 'essence' of the club. Players who get what it means to play for us and who can pass that on to the new players.

Along with Baldock, Bash, Norwood and Sharp last season we've lost that experience that needs passing on to the next generation of blades players.

The lack of leaders in the club at the minute is frightening. We've gone from a team full of captains 5 years ago to not even being able to guess who the captain might be in the first match of the season.

Beginning to get worried now

Arblaster for captain.

Arblaster for captain.
Absolutely no way should we be giving him the captaincy this season.

He's going to have enough on his plate having to run our midfield at 20 years old without having to answer to this shitshow of what's going on above him.

Can sort of see why wilder gave it him for a few matches last season when there was zero pressure on him but not this season, just let the lad concentrate on his football.

Fantastic servant of the club and a great calming presence as leader of the team. Will be fondly remembered and I wish him nothing but success in the remainder of his career.

The manner of his departure is a blot on the Blades and is a sad, frustrating and somewhat shambolic way to depart for someone who has served the club so well. Deserved better.

Ok so let’s give it someone who “gets the club” then by your description. Like who, JLT, who’s got at least 3 or 4 mistakes leading to goals in him not to mention red cards, but he likes a tackle so let’s make him club captain.

Or we give it a 20 year old kid in his first full season of professional football with us when the pressure from the stands will be immense if we're still in this state at the start of the season and ruin him before he's even got started.

It's hard enough for young lads to make it in professional football as it is without the unnecessary burden of being captain. It's why you hardly ever see a 20 year old captain anywhere in professional football or sport in general.

You know it's coming
I think he was more referring to the fact that you put McBurnie in the same sentence as "quality" and "John Egan" as if they were all compatible.

Egan has been a magnificent servant and ambassador for the club as well as a high quality CB at club and country level. McBurnie is an unreliable, average (at best) quality 'tug boat' of a player who perceives himself to be something much more.

The two aren't the same in my opinion.

That's a valid point. If I hear anyone, whether it's a supporter, player or member of the coaching staff, describe the pigs game as 'just another game', I'm going to personally take a pop-up inflatable Argos round to their house and bray em round the back of it!

Interesting that 10 days ago he was posting about looking forward to the new season with pics at shirecliffe in blades kit.

To now be leaving. Guess he wants a premier league deal, which is fair enough
Don't think he's good enough for the prem, only my opinion.

He’s had 2 1/2 seasons there. So would be a decent back up at least.

In 1 1/2 of those seasons he’s not had a great defence alongside him.

He started last season with Anel and Trusty which proved themselves to be championship

GLTTL he’s been a fantastic player for us.

Such a shame it’s ended on an injury but I hope it works out well for him and us in the long run.

Good luck for the Future Eags.
Hope everything works out.
Thanks for the memories.

Egan's time here was mutually fantastic and everything you hope for when you sign a player

But I'm not bothered he's leaving. If he has PL offers he simply has to take them now because it's beyond his ability level

We're now under more pressure to sign Worrall though. But I think we will, I think he's the priority

All the best to John Egan, even if he joins Forest which I hope he doesn't. Legend.

It will be interesting to know if he's fit or still recovering from injury.

One of our best ever centre backs, probably the best I've seen, certainly in his his first 4 seasons with united. Hope United know what they're doing because right now it feels very uncertain.

Maybe Trusty will fill the void, Robbo on the left and Worrall on the right, assuming we're retaining five at the back.

Hi Stegosaurus here

Big mistake letting Egan go. He's not PL standard, but we're not PL any more. He'll be good in the Championship. Baffling to let him go, we're not exactly going to be able to sign someone his standard on the cheap.

Great player for us,great captain and character. I know people that know him and his injury was career ending for most players. To recover and play at a good level is difficult,at his age even more so. See JOC and he was younger and fitter. Good luck John Egan,it’s been a pleasure.
