I would give him a chance and make a judgment based on what he produces for us.

But . . .

Only good enough to warm the bench for Championship Southampton. Haven't we been down this road before? Quite recently?

And: we've been linked with Holgate before. Is this the third or fourth time? Clearly a favourite of Mitchell. Feels like a lack of imagination when it comes to identifying transfer targets. I'd welcome a refresh of this side of the club's operations.
We seem to be linked to players for years before actually signing them.

Cheers Everton.....

I do actually mean that by the way. Cheers Everton.

Now can we find someone better please.

Southampton would hammer us to be fair 😂

I actually quite like Holgate when saw him for WBA. I do agree lack of imagination and seem to be throwing the same names out there.

Covers a lot of positions and if Everton want him gone then I think they’ll realise that and let us take him.

Probably still sign him. Gravity is pulling him here. Might not be this season, might not be next season.... but he WILL end up here one day

I thought in the summer he'd be the bare minimum standard for domestic loan use but then we went and signed Thomas

I actually think he'd be a good signing, but only on a permanent deal on the right terms

He wouldn't be the worst player in the world, but he surely ain't the best we can get by a long stretch either. Versatile so I'll give him that but he seems to be going on a downward trajectory for a while now and can't get into a Championship sides starting 11. I was never too enthusiastic about his ability anyway even when he was at Everton and thought he was way overrated there. The fact the lad is said to be on about £80k a week at Everton (hence they are desperate to get him out on loan even if they still have to pay a percentage of his wage) tells you all about what is fucked up with PL football these days. Very mediocre players getting paid a ridiculous wage. We can't afford his full wages and so let's leave him to be Everton's problem. But if he was available on a free, on much reduced wages (a quarter of what he's one now) then I could see him being useful. In the meantime, no thanks.

Surely we're after a better domestic loan than Holgate, with all due respect to the lad.

Even if the lad was bobbins and we have had an escape it’s still a bit of shitty business from Everton

Unless they told him before hand and he still travelled up regardless hoping something could have been sorted

I like him.
But as our ONE domestic loan??
Surely not!?

I think there's a good player in there but his lack of consistent playing time has scuppered his development over the last few seasons. He was very, very highly regarded when he was first on the scene at Barnsley.

Glad we've not shelled out the money on a loan though. Let Everton be stuck with his £72k pw wages. No wonder they're up against FFP.

Everton realise that letting him go to us might help their relegation cause, he's useless, wmhoevers in charge of recruitment at the lane needs sacking if this is the best we can do

Call their bluff.

It’ll cost Everton the best part of £2m to have him sat at home until the end of the season.

I’m sure we could find some better options also.

Amusing to see people say no because he's "on the bench in the Championship" yes for a team than would probably stick about 3 past us at the minute and not give us a kick. Behind Kyle Walker Peters Bednarek Harwood bells etc is no disgrace as all start for us and prob half the prem

I actually like Holgate. Plays centre half / right back / centre midfield. Covers a lot of options for us.

My thing is keeping possession and players like him can do this.

Amusing to see some on here think that the mighty Southampton would put 3 past us and not give us a kick. So amusing in fact, I almost chuckled.

You can cut that out showing signs of merryment on here .Against the rules .

i dont think holgate or mepham are premier league defenders but im sure chris is eyeing next season when we will more than likely be good enough for the championship

Be interesting to know wherr this one came about from, as it seems that Southampton's manager has rubbished it all.

He states that Holgate was training with Southampton on the day that he had supposedly attended Sheffield for his medical and that there is no chance that he could have possibly made it there and back..

He has basically completely rubbished it all as lazy journalism that has probably stemmed from a dud rumour.

Thank the Lord for that then.

I thought CW had taken leave of his senses if he was seriously trying to bring in Holgate on loan. Mediocre and very expensive. Don't want him. Don't need him.
