If we went up it wouldn’t harm his career to sign a two year deal with us but with £20m release clause.

I’d say the release clause should be higher but ultimately he wouldn’t sign unless we don’t price him out of leaving.

Sometimes you have to compromise unfortunately, I get your point but that’s “this is our way so put up or shut up” he’s too good of a player to do that & we’re not that big of a club to make those demands

Fitness issues with Doyle, Fleck and McBurnie means we should be signing a combative midfielder and powerful striker.

I said the lack of such signings would cost us promotion before the season but McBurnie has done really well and surprised me BUT those saying we can't afford it- I would counter with can we afford not to? An investment in a loan and permanent of say 2-3 million now could net the club 200 million if we go up.

If we fail this season then we lose Berge, Ndiaye, prob Norwood and maybe a few others with Doyle going back and a number out of contract. It could be a long time before we are in a position to build a squad for promotion again if we don't do it this year with the parachute payments ending.


Up top I am not convinced by Khadra, Brewster, or Jebbo whose consistency/injury/goalscoring record suggests we are relying almost entirely on Sharp if anything happens to the other two. With lots of games that is a big risk. I also think having a powerful option where we can go a bit longer against teams who sit in will help us mix it up. Sure there are a few loans we could look at- even if it means sending Khadra back- who has not worked and does not fit here seemingly.

Midfield is the one where we just need a ratter who can get his foot in and do the ugly stuff. A Besic/Montgomery type. A better Osborn basically who has some physicality. I reckon we could get someone from the Champ at a reasonable price.

Personally I think it's a gamble but a couple of million that could give us a great chance. No guarantees and not my money but in a weak division, those two extra options could be all important.

Sensible stuff here from DB, do not underestimate the parachute money situation if we fail, it'll break this team up pretty fast if we stay down..

IMO, we go for it with high wage loans from the prem who can't get in the first team at thier respective clubs..

Striker situation is quite worrying, if McBurnie gets injured or loses form, we have only Illy and Billy, and that partnership will need to be on top of their game constantly, when all our players vacillate so much in form that it is unlikely that even Illy can be at his best constantly.
Anel will chip in with a few goals though.

We could do with a battling, high energy midfielder. Either a specialist defensive midfielder or a high energy box to box type. It'd give us the four at the back 4-3-3 option. To supplement the forward options a powerful, physical centre forward is a must imo. If not start praying for no injuries, especially in April.

I'd be willing to sacrifice Khadra, Jebbison (loan out), Coulibaly (if fit) and Arblaster (loan) to make that happen. I wouldn't like to bring Osula back in an ideal world - he's probably better served getting regular games. This recall will probably be forced on us if we don't get this forward addition. You could consider a loan out for a left sided defensive player, but I have PTSD from the first half of the season so haven't added it to my list.

The striker problem is tricky. In a perfect world there would be a young EPL striker we could loan who would fit the bill but I don't think one exists who is good enough to hold up the ball/run the line/win arial battels and would be happy on a bench.

Possibly the more likely option is an old player in the last 6 months who we'd be prepared to offer a 1.5 year contract to and pay a high wage, which brings its own problems. Or someone unattached but I would wager there probably isn't.

agree 100% always rated moore he would be ideal for us just now but no chance of getting him wouldnt suprise me though if we signed a target man on loan and sent khadra back to brighton just doesnt look like hes fitting in here

Just don't see it. Money aside and Newcastle would likely want the majority of the salary covering, we're not going to bring in a player to replace McBurnie. I mean, you sign Wood, he starts most games.

no probably not but if its a financial issue we can rule any premier league strikers out of the equation just think the squad weve got now will finish top 6 a squad with 2 more good additions would more than likely get us automatic promotion

So we have to have another body in at the least. A further option up, a target man ideally, seems smh all agree on.....but I still think just having someone in the squad with a good cross on them can offer an extra dimension and bring SMG out of the other forwards.

yes another midfielder would be very handy having said that a midfield 3 of berge norwood and doyle would be the best in the championship for me just a question if we can keep all 3 fit

Jebbison shows absolutely no sign he is at a level good enough for a tilt at promotion to the Prem. Osula looks a far better bet but someone like Grabbon is what we need. Short term boost not maybe in a couple of seasons or maybe not. Immediate impact the difference between vast income boost and a decade of treading water as others have pointed out.

Hecky has basically said were looking to keep players rather than add. The only way I can a player coming in, is if one leaves.
I think our best chance of depth up top, would be to recall Osula and send out Jebbo in his place.
Jebbo having the second half of the season with Derby would be a good move for both parties and atleast Osula has been playing and scoring at league one level.

Djed Spence is a good example. Best right back in the division last season, Forest get promoted but still moves to a bigger clubs in Spurs. He's not started a game yet and hardly played.

I agree that Grabban would be ideal but he's no longer a free agent - playing for Al Ahli Saudi in Saudi Arabia.

We also need to perhaps freshen things up as our last three performances have not been stellar, although in two of them we still got the win.

Currently my mind keeps going back to Danny Wilson‘s second season, where we were top two until Xmas despite not playing all that well very often, then had a bad JTW and fell away to inevitable play off failure,
