I admire what Hecky is doing regarding the youth.

He’s given games to Jebbison and Osula when there were opportunities to loan more experienced players or bring in some journeyman on a short term deal.

I like what he’s doing here too. He gave Gordon a go at right back and he’s spoken well of Arblaster and gave him his full debut.

He’s not afraid to give them a go. This wasn’t really Wilder’s way. Not a dig at Wilder. He would say if they were good enough they make the team. Hecky seems to be more of the mind that if you don’t give them a chance they’ll never grow and never show you they can be good enough.

Imagine if this lad can somehow just take over from Fleck for example. What a boon that would be.

Future captain

He interviews well. Speaks like an older head but with youthful enthusiasm.
Good local accent on him too.

I hope he gets his chances, he's looked really good whenever I've seen him play. Uses the ball intelligently, always showing for it and doesn't mind going higher up the field with it. Looks a reasonable height, quite stocky and has a low centre of gravity. He doesn't look like a kid waiting to fill out that's going to be bullied by the grown ups.
Definitely one to keep an eye on. The other is Sydie Peck, but he doesn't seem as close at the moment.

Fair enough, one mans meat is another mans Hamandcheese. It's your right to disagree but in my opinion,he's been value for the money.
Hes being sarcastic mate, what a signing he was, even if wed paid 5m for him it would have been a bargain. The fact we got him for nothing means hes one of the all time best transfers at the club.

I totally agree,he's been a good servant to the club, maybe coming to the twilight of his career. As for sarcasm,it's wasted on me,i'm too dumb.

Can't think of a better free

Though for some reason more of our fans would probably say 'McGoldrick'

Disagree

Fleck's been a shocking free transfer

That is one of the worst takes I've ever seen on here. He clocked up an absolute shit load of appearances during our ascent to the Premier League and was cracking in our first season up there.

Last season he was an average Championship player. So far this season he's had 1 poor game and 1 decent game.

How that amounts to a "shocking free transfer" I don't know.

I do think it highlights an issue that we discussed on a different thread, whereby we keep players on too far beyond their peaks and well into their decline periods. Ultimately allowing them to walk away on free transfers.
There is often going to be a recency bias when giving out opinions. I highly doubt anyone would have described Fleck as a "shocking free transfer" if we'd sold him after we'd been relegated.

That two people already can take that seriously probably proves my point about McGoldrick because no one would if it was said about him

Oli was tiny when he was at school. Then I saw him with his mum at a Dynamos match last season, and couldn't believe how much he had grown.

We are gonna have a fight on our hands holding onto this lad, hopefully him being a Blade and his family also he will give us two or three years in the side before moving on. Such a silky player with his technique and he seems to glide with his running style, makes covering the ground look very easy.

It's not McCabe as chairman anymore.

We have a very good chance to go up.

We then are as big as at least a third to a half the division above in terms of club size.

If Palace can retain Zaha for so long I don't see why United can't hope to keep a few of the star performers.

We're under new management now. I don't think we have to be so pessimistic on keeping players anymore. We've only sold Ramsdale since we went down and that was instigated by him making a song and dance about it. His replacement has been excellent.

Try a bit of glass half full mate 👍

I think it was me that made that point.

I agree that Fleck has been a great free transfer and signing in general but we should have cashed in when Arsenal were sniffing that’s what we’ll run clubs do.

They succession plan … sell for the high red t price then buy a cheaper replacement then sell again and buy a more expensive cheaper replacement and so on.

This is what we haven’t done well in the past

Eh? You seem to take me rating the lad very highly and that we will have a fight to keep him as clubs come knocking as though I’m a pessimist with glass half full mentality and that the club will sell for peanuts? Genuinely not sure how the hell you have come up with your reply. If I said we will have a fight on our hands to keep illiman and Anel would you think the same? No you wouldn’t you would think big sized bids will come in and we will struggle to keep them. Same goes for Arblaster eventually. But we will get big money and if we are in the prem then it all goes out of the window granted but even then if a bid is too good to resist we will still sell.

Looking at our midfield before the game yesterday, one thing I was looking forward to was half an hour of Arblaster. Only seen him on youth team streams.

But Bash was the right choice since in the circumstances. And being 5-2 up took the edge off.

I made the comment because it is a 'typical United' type response.

Why would we even talk of them leaving so early in their Blades career?

How about we keep the better players, go up, invest wisely when we go up and evolve to become a club who takes other teams' better players?

There's always this nagging sentiment that "he's a good player, he'll not be with us very long!"

If we want to become a regular top flight club we have to shake off the McCabe "if a Big Club comes knocking" mentality. This doesn't seem to be the thinking of the Prince and his regime.

This is not specifically at you, I always try and play the post not the poster anyway, and I don't know if it is a Sheffield thing or a Sheffield United thing but it's just that you can almost guarantee whenever someone breaks through and shows some promise there'll be a post already talking about them leaving for better things.

Keep the better ones and we go up, injuries permitting.

Fed up of the McCabe era of selling things off on the cheap as you allude. Pardon my French but if we want to achieve, I'm more inclined to go the route "if a big club comes knocking....tell them to get fucked!"

It's what has helped Leicester, Palace etc remain PL clubs. Why not us?

Genuinely still baffled as to what the hell your babbling on about just going by my post but I will reply to this part only

Fed up of the McCabe era of selling things off on the cheap as you allude

At no point have I alluded to anything of the sort, I have not mentioned a price or selling cheap, nothing whatsoever even close. You have gone on a rant over one single sentence, just one, this one “we are gonna have a fight on our hands keeping hold of this lad” that’s it that’s all I said and you have gone on one. I will repeat again we will have a fight on our hands keeping hold of this lad, that is said as a massive compliment to him because I think he’s that good, see not mentioned anything about McCabe, selling cheap etc etc etc but the top teams will come calling if he keeps progressing that’s a fact. Because you or me think he should stay is irrelevant, we are a business. If it makes sense for the business any player will be sold and that’s a fact.
